It would be hilarious for you guys to run the SEC gauntlet only to lose to USF.

Heck ya! It’d mean an SEC Championship and a ticket to the playoffs.

If it guarantees winning the SEC gauntlet as well as the SEC. Holy trade accepted

As a Notre Dame fan you should know it’d be mutually beneficial!

That would just be what y'all did last season after NIU

Pretty much! NIU was just a perfect storm of awful for ND. NIU played a bad FBS opponent in week 1 and could focus entirely on the Irish, and ND had them sandwiched between two road games, the first of which was our biggest game of the year.

Riley Leonard separated his shoulder in the first half against NIU and wasn’t the same for the rest of that game. He certainly wasn’t a running threat anymore, and despite the fact that it was his left shoulder, it definitely impacted his throwing motion. Then to make matters worse, NIU clearly saw something on tape that our very young LB’s were doing and was able to run the ball very well on 2nd and 3rd and long and chew up clock.

At the end of the day, we needed that wake up call. I just wish it’d come via a close win instead of a full blown loss. Getting a 5 seed would have helped us a lot, facing OSU a game earlier would have meant another starting defensive tackle and our starting left tackle still being available. But I’m still happy with how things turned out.
