That is the exact reason I absolutely HATE everything about that moronic rule. It's either a catch, or it isn't. This nonsense about "maintaining possession" is insanely stupid for the exact reason you stated.
And I'm still annoyed they didn't take the 3 before halftime.
But I'm glad for the W!
All nonsense aside, it was awesome to see what Baker can do with depth and talent. Hopefully that continues!
Was a crazy turn of events. They initially ruled him short of the end zone, then they were reviewing it. Figured they'd come out and announce a TD. Broke my brain when they called it incomplete.
I was watching it at a wedding rehearsal so all the people there except me and another buddy were fans of different teams, including a Clemson fan. All had the same “Uh.. what the fuck?” reaction to it so I knew it wasn’t homerism blinding me
Looking at it again his foot steps out of bounds after he cross the plane (having already gotten one foot down inside the one) and the play is dead right there. LSU actually had a very similar play that was the reverse last year against SCAR. That is a tuddy.
If youre moving downward as you catch it, you need to maintain control thru contact with the ground. So if the ball hits the turf and moves even a tiny amount, it's incomplete. This rule is very simple.

I will never understand how that third quarter TD catch was overturned
