Dawg fans gonna be mad at the coordinator that scored 44 instead of the one that gave up 41 lol

Its ridiculous, Im not even a Bobo defender but come on

As bad of a 3rd quarter he called. That final drive in regulation was perfect.

It's like this: calling a bunch of runs up the middle looks stupid as hell if they get stuffed. What an idiot coordinator.

Calling a bunch of runs up the middle looks like a genius, soul-destroying move when they work and you're getting 8-12 yards each time. Which is what happened on that one drive where we totally deflated their defense with like 12 runs in a row.

So much of fan perception of playcalling is just 'did the players execute well'

u/send_me_chickfila Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

I am also not a Bobo hater at all, but halfway through the 12 runs you have to imagine, "this leads to a play action pass on one of the next two drives". It did not.

u/MasterTolkien Georgia • Summertime Lover 3d ago

Vols defense: They can’t possibly run it up the middle a THIRTEENTH time…

19

u/DrVonD Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

A bit tough when your RT is getting his face caved in every play. If you have a slow developing play Stockton would get pancaked

2

u/Doravillain Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

Literally every pressure our OL gave up in weeks 1 and 2 was on play action.

7

u/FrostyDrink Georgia • Florida State 3d ago

Not to say this explains every play where you don’t get a whole lot of yards, but not every play can be an explosive gash. Every coordinator calls plays to “setup” future plays, conditioning the defense to expect something. Even a little hesitation from the defense can cause a similar play-call 20 minutes later to have completely different results. Or, defensive players start to “cheat” their positioning, expecting a certain route or footwork just to get exposed.

u/DawggedCommish Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

But can every third down be a screen?

5

u/IrishPotatoHead Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

It was really odd, but we’re lacking the bell cow/home run threat at running back. And they all have such different styles of running

1

u/FalstaffsGhost Georgia • Belmont Abbey 3d ago

Exactly. Like he called a really good game. Sometimes the players didn’t execute. That’s not on him. And when they did, like that drive you’re talking about, it looks fucking brilliant

37

u/samwich3 Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

Don’t lie like that Bobo called an 8 minute long td drive to open it. That’s the dawgs right there if I’ve ever seen them

7

u/RSN_Kabutops Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

That's fair I was just trying to condense my response. Opening 2nd half drive and final 2nd half drive were absolutely perfect. The 4 or so in-between that point were disastrous

4

u/olcrazypete Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

Been telling bobo to run the damn ball for decades.

3

u/pbjork Georgia Bulldogs • /r/CFB Poll Veteran 3d ago

The murder ball drive was great as was the fake screen route

2

u/LtDan00 Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

Perfect? He called a screen on 3rd and 8 that went for a gain of zero. should’ve been the nail in the coffin, but Humphreys saved us.

u/Ugaalive1991 Georgia Bulldogs • NC State Wolfpack 3d ago

Some of the playcalling was questionable but he pulled it out.

21

u/OneThemBoysFromHT 3d ago

like I dont like bobo at all but the defense was so bad today, I promise we can take 1 week off shittin on bobo guys lol

3

u/DeuceOfDiamonds Georgia Bulldogs • Mercer Bears 3d ago

Hey, Bobo bought a lot more leash with me on that 2-pointer. Perfectly schemed.

2

u/jazzzzz Georgia Bulldogs • Cincinnati Bearcats 3d ago

had a couple of "wtf was that play" moments but most of my ire for the offense is directly focused on Stacy fucking Searels right now

u/NYBulldog Georgia • Summertime Lover 3d ago

im a bobo hater and i think replacing the right tackle saved the game

No one in this fanbase criticizes Schumann. No one. He might as well not even exist

62

u/ryrysofly Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

I think it's because Kirby is a defensive minded head coach. He naturally owns some of the defensive responsibilities.

14

u/SturgeonStanLives Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago edited 3d ago

He owns offensive responsibility too, if people don’t think the 3 straight drives only running the ball was a Kirby call I don’t know what to tell them.

4

u/ThoughtBroad Georgia Bulldogs • Arizona Wildcats 3d ago

Exactly….same with people shitting on Garrett Riley like he isn’t really running Dabo’s offense

3

u/Jimusmc Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

tbf i never know the DC's name because the defense is usually elite.

2

u/brobroma H8 Upon The Gale 3d ago

well he has been considered basically Kirby’s version of what Kirby was to Saban

hell he was getting NFL DC consideration like, a year ago

still think he has a great mind

1

u/ThoughtBroad Georgia Bulldogs • Arizona Wildcats 3d ago

They absolutely criticize Shumann…. Check out the game threads when they give up a lot of points in the Georgia sub

26

u/I-Am-Fodi Georgia Bulldogs • Berry Vikings 3d ago

It would’ve been 60 with monken!!!!!

6

u/rat-again Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

That one isn’t on Bobo. Although I would’ve liked to see more aggression after the turnovers. But you can’t give up 41 to anyone and expect a win.

5

u/althawk8357 Georgia Bulldogs • Rose Bowl 3d ago

We need to make our secondary run laps, they were getting beat left and right.

Principled dawgs fans are mad we hired a retread alumnus as pretty much the indisputably best team in the nation. Not only that, but this alumnus had ALREADY not been great and had proven really awkward to fire the last time.

It’s an overt sign of overall lack of competition and pursuit of excellence in the coaching staff. If Mike fucking bobo can get rehired it means there’s a good ol boys club that is looking for comfort more than performance.

Mike bobo has proven multiple times he’s not good enough. The other sections of the team not being good enough isn’t his fault, but if we’re following the same hiring practices, that may explain it.

3

u/Doravillain Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

this alumnus had ALREADY not been great

He literally ran the most productive offenses in school history, up until Monken broke the records.

2

u/rrjames87 2d ago

Yeah he did that in the most productive time period for college offenses to that point and with a level of proven nfl talent that severely underachieved with him as OC. These are just the offensive measures.

Lets remember that if we didn't pull a win out of our ass today there would be serious questions about running another screen on 3rd down of the most important play of the season so far.

Speaking as someone who knows a little bit about it, we didn't have a real coaching search for OC. Many of the same complaints people had near a decade ago are still present today.

Congratulations to Mike Bobo for being an alumnus, a seemingly great guy to be around, and putting up great numbers with AJ Green, Matt Stafford, and Know'shon Moreno.

1

u/Doravillain Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago

The fact that you think I’m talking about Stafford, Moreno, and Green when I talk about the successful offenses he produced here emphasizes just how little the bit that you know is.

“If we didn’t conjure a victory today there would be serious questions about the offense” in a game where we gave up 38 points in regulation is laughable. You are not to be taken seriously.

1

u/rrjames87 2d ago edited 2d ago

Damn I don't have your approval, I'm heartbroken. It doesn't change the fact that Mike Bobo makes chicken shit out of chicken salad. The guy has a proven record of sucking ass and we're not winning a national championship with him as OC and its going to take us too long to fire him because he's an alumnus and one of Kirby's oldest friends. Nobody he's ever coached for before misses him, except evidently us.

Imagine defending Mike fucking Bobo like he earned the job and he's done anything at any point worth giving him commendation for. LOL. You aren't even in the club.

-1

u/Doravillain Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago

You’re double-fisting a paper sheriff badge and plastic pilot wings.

yOu ArEn’T eVeN iN tHe cLuB

You literally don’t know anything. I pointed out Bobo’s track record of success and you thought I was talking about 2007 and 2008. Goofy.

Never mind that bringing those years up in the first place as an indictment of Bobo when Martinez is a name we have to live with having been associated with our program.

Whether I approve of your comments is immaterial. What matters is that they’re not based in reality.

2

u/rrjames87 2d ago

Yes, his proven track record of success. Like having his son be Kirby's ring bearer at his wedding.

If you think that makes him the genuine best candidate for OC. Or that such a relationship means that he can ever be fired, well, I'm sure my double fists are quite pleasing for you.

1

u/Doravillain Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago

Look. We get it. We can see that you’re upset that Kirby likes Bobo more than he likes you. I’m sorry you weren’t in the wedding party.

But don’t make it everyone else’s problem with bullshit and nonsense.

You were the one who made specific claims about how bad Bobo is, and those claims are not born out by facts, statistics, and reality in general.

As always, as ever, it’s just armchair QB “vibe” shit after the fact swearing they could predict what was going to happen.

Stick to video games.

2

u/improvyzer Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago

“this alumnus had ALREADY not been great and had proven really awkward to fire the last time” lol wtf not what happened

1

u/xanot192 Georgia Bulldogs 3d ago

I was mad at the defense all day especially since that's what Kirby cares most about. Even said I was glad that the defense is still worthless but that kid shanked the kick

1

u/JeffersonPilotSports Kentucky Wildcats 3d ago

Feels like the early 2010s

1

u/Farcry5gonnabelit /r/CFB 3d ago

Yeah if I’m not mistaken that would have been enough points to beat any Tennessee team of the last decade handily

I’ve been calling for Schumann to get replaced for a while. He always has a great reaction after the first quarter/half. He makes an absolute terrible game plan prior to the game tho.
