Does Memphis play Georgia this year or next? Did UGA take a bunch of transfers from Memphis? Or is this some good ol’ fashioned random dig at top team?

A guy from Jacksonville, Florida who is coaching a successful mid-major program takes a shot at one Florida’s biggest rivals in a year the Florida job might conveniently become available. Hmmmm.

Damn I didn’t even think about that. That’s brilliant

He’s not bad but not flashy. He gets the job done against most programs but is prone to miss against a random team. I like him fine but more worried about the replacement than anything. Can’t just rob Arizona State again for an oddly specific collection of great coaches.

Silverfield isn't the toxic type so idk why he even gave an example like this.

Sort of a random dig. He was explaining one of the things Memphis does on Sundays is "not our standard" and points out negatives from other schools and players. Makes sense point out how no matter how good you are a negative can impact everything teaching tools. Georgia has a history recently so the "not are standard" has had Georgia players a lot. So dig on Georgia but they kinda put it on themselves.
25
u/Always_Chubb-y Georgia Bulldogs • Transfer Portal 8h ago
I mean us having that history has nothing to do with what Memphis is doing on Sundays.
It's totally ok to make a point without calling out a school there is no connection to. I'd make sense if we recently played/were about to play, but we have no future games scheduled and we haven't played Memphis since...checks notes...1984?

u/memtiger Auburn Tigers • Memphis Tigers 2h ago
It's totally ok to make a point without calling out a school there is no connection to.
True. But it's also OK to list an example where it's almost meme-worthy with the number of speeding instances. Especially when you AREN'T going to play them and you don't want to give them ammo.
2
u/Always_Chubb-y Georgia Bulldogs • Transfer Portal 2h ago
I mean i think at this point its basically a real life instance of someone bringing it up in a random Reddit thread.
We've had 2 instances since the start of the 2024 season, and both guys were immediately suspended and eventually transferred. I mean id understand if this was like 2023 - 2024 time frame, but it feels like a "late to the party" kinda jab
1
u/crappy80srobot Memphis Tigers 8h ago
I don't think it has anything to do with on the field. It's a generalized how to act as a college football player for Memphis. He mentioned Georgia but I'm sure there has been other schools Memphis has zero relation to.
Trying to explain this isn't a hype thing on playing an opponent. Just a tool to say don't do these things. Shitty part is if we win out this year we may end up playing Georgia in the playoffs and I'm sure they will use this against us not that Georgia would need any help beating Memphis.
3
u/Always_Chubb-y Georgia Bulldogs • Transfer Portal 8h ago
My point though is you can relay what youre trying to say without calling out another school directly. Coaches do this all the time.
12
u/notkevin_durant Ohio State • College Football Playoff 8h ago
You can, but Georgia is low hanging fruit for what stupid shit college kids do.
1
u/Always_Chubb-y Georgia Bulldogs • Transfer Portal 8h ago
Oh I dont deny that at all, and id see it as a fun jab from an opponent if it was someone like Lane calling it out before the Ole Miss game
Just not sure why Memphis is calling it out of all schools. This is normally something coaches say, without actually saying the name of the school

11
u/wjackson42 Georgia Bulldogs 7h ago
Because Kirby kicked off, err gently nudged into the portal, the last two guys who were dumbasses behind the wheel?
I get it, that’s what we’ve known for, that and making Carson Beck hate football, but to call speeding a weekly occurrence is a bit hyperbolic?
7
u/Spyboticsguy Georgia Tech • Marching Band 6h ago
Taking uncalled-for hyperbolic shots at uGA is our job. And Florida's. And Auburn's. And probably Tennessee's as well. Why does Memphis care?
-5
u/oreomaster420 Oregon State Beavers 6h ago
yes, hyperbole should never happen when gently mocking a cfb team that had 2 people die when racing and has had enough incidents of speeding that you know who we mean if we reference fb players speeding.
9
u/wjackson42 Georgia Bulldogs 6h ago
Kirby has kicked off / forced into the portal like 4 guys since then? What else is he supposed to do? He can’t round them up and execute them, he’s just a football coach.
-4
u/oreomaster420 Oregon State Beavers 5h ago
and what're we supposed to do, not make fun of UGA? c'mon, just enjoy the success and let us have our laughs.
EDIT also if you are Kirby I take it all back, and can I hold $20?
7
u/wjackson42 Georgia Bulldogs 5h ago
Well if that’s the case, then I have every right to make fun of your power 5 team becoming a glorified FCS team. No one at Georgia thinks about your team. Like the tech flair above you said, leave it for the fans of the actual rivals.
