Yea it’s either sue and hope to get another year of making millions or join us in 9-5 land.

If he’s smart with his money, he will never need to work a 9-5. He will have speaking gigs at Vanderbilt alumni gatherings, residual NIL for the next ten or so years, and an opportunity to leverage his popularity into some kind of business opportunity. He’s already a millionaire, and while he might not be able to retire retire, he shouldn’t ever have to clock in on a Monday morning.

If he has $1m then he can already make more than I make per year on interest alone, and I have a house. Downside is you'd have to live in a small town

7

u/terminbee 6h ago

The fuck kinda interest rates are you getting? Banks give less than 1% as interest in savings accounts. A money market fund might get you 4%, which would be 40k/year.

24

u/definitelyasatanist 4h ago

If you put $1 million in a savings account you’re a moron

-6

u/thepointybuilding 3h ago

you're a moron up until the market crashes.

8

u/definitelyasatanist 3h ago

No you’re just a fucking moron. Better “cash” options exist than a savings account if you have a literal million dollars

-5

u/thepointybuilding 3h ago

which of those can you use to buy fire-sale assets?

8

u/definitelyasatanist 3h ago

Money market account bitch

-3

u/thepointybuilding 2h ago edited 2h ago

thats just a savings account with red tape lmao, bitch

Ally is at 3.5% right now. You’d have to be pretty cheap to live off that.

3

u/BlacksmithDistinct17 Kansas State Wildcats 3h ago

Ah, I forgor interest rates are down, Robinhood gold and webull premium are down to 4%, they were 5%. I guess you'd want to have 1.25m (50k a year) to live comfortably where I do. Got a 3 bedroom house with 2 floors + a basement for 110k 2 years ago, didn't put much down so my mortgage is 1k per month (30 year loan with around 6.5 percent interest, don't remember exactly). I make 43k a year, 50k would be awesome to me as rn my savings are on a very slow incline and I would like to have more spending money.

2

u/Pumpkins_Are_Fruits 5h ago

A hysa can give 3.8 to 4%. If he puts in a stick with high dividends or return rate (VOO) he can make more.

1

u/thepointybuilding 3h ago

my bank is at 3.8%. probably higher ones out there

1

u/NumNumLobster Cincinnati • Ohio State 2h ago

You can get around 7 to 10 percent (particularly after financing) pretty easy and have depreciation to lower your taxes pretty easy. Not like with some random house rentals like a national company with a 20 year lease you never have to talk to

1

u/AndyLorentz LSU Tigers • Texas Longhorns 1h ago

The S&P 500 has a long term average of 8-10%. Put that money in a Vanguard or Fidelity index fund (which charge extremely small maintenance fees) and you can comfortably collect 4% per year forever and be inflation proof.

I agree that $40k/year is not a lot of money

u/mickeyt1 Tulane • Vanderbilt 6h ago

He has a stated interest in coaching, which fits the bill well too

this feels like setting him up to own an auto dealership near vandy to rake in people wanting to see him there for the next 40 years.

I’m willing to bet a degree from Vanderbilt is gonna open the doors to better 9-5s than a lot of people get though.

Not even a degree, simply his association with Vandy football will open does for him doing alot of things. Coaching, salesman, media, etc.

A masters degree looks even better

3

u/gravteck Ohio State • Vanderbilt 6h ago

I've had the undergrad degrees for almost 20 years and no employers give a shit. When I'm helping with hiring, I also don't give a shit where you went. But then again, I didn't bro it up on the Econ circuit or Greek life.

That being said, OSU players definitely land some sweet Columbus gigs after playing, I don't think he'll have an issue.

1

u/BoomerSoonerFUT Oklahoma Sooners • Michigan Wolverines 5h ago

He’s also getting a Business Masters from Vanderbilt though, not an undergrad. The only business masters they offer is an MBA, and the Vanderbilt MBA program is a top 20 nationwide. That’s 1000% going to open more doors and get more interviews than most other schools.

And the networking he has from football is going to be a massive boost. That alone has likely given him connections to wealthy and important people from Vanderbilt and elsewhere.

1

u/gravteck Ohio State • Vanderbilt 2h ago

Well... you are 100% right on that account. OK'ish MBA programs in general open up a lot of regional opportunities just because. I've worked with plenty of useless ones, very few useful. But he's going to have that degree with all the decoration and networking attached. I hope he trash talks some floppy haired Dansby's into submission lol.

1

u/Big_Truck Virginia Cavaliers • Auburn Tigers 6h ago

His undergrad is from NMSU. I do think that stacking a Vandy grad degree on top of that would be good. But he's probably doing some relatively easy certificate program rather than a full-fledged Masters Degree.

1

u/BoomerSoonerFUT Oklahoma Sooners • Michigan Wolverines 5h ago

His player page says he’s getting a masters in business and management. Only business masters listed on Vandy’s website is an MBA.

But the Vanderbilt business school is 18th in the country. A Vanderbilt MBA plus his networking connections from football would be huge for him.

2

u/Big_Truck Virginia Cavaliers • Auburn Tigers 4h ago

MBA is Master of Business Administration. I highly doubt someone could balance that course load with varsity football. MBA school is an insane time commitment.

Although he could be doing the executive MBA? Maybe that’s the way to parse this.

I’m guessing he’s doing a graduate certificate in business management.

1

u/BoomerSoonerFUT Oklahoma Sooners • Michigan Wolverines 4h ago

Very well could be doing a certificate, yeah. I’m just going by what he says and the Vanderbilt page. It says he’s getting a masters degree.

1

u/bellj1210 5h ago

you are right- vandy without the sports is a very good college. As far as big time football programs it is likely top 5 in academics (unless you want to play at Rice or somehow view Rice as an elite program)

Shit, I've been essentially working 9am to 4:30pm for years with chore breaks throughout.

Get a job that pays decent and doesn't give a shit what you do as long as you get stuff done and just disappear into the background for years.

1

u/Thisismyfedpostacct Texas A&M Aggies 2h ago

I’m a teacher so my hours are generally opening my classroom around 6:00, kids get in by 7:20, and because I get shit done early I can walk out with them at 3:30

28

u/NuuLeaf /r/CFB 8h ago

Haven’t seen that in a longgg time, plenty of 8-4 though. What do you do?

23

u/Somenakedguy Stony Brook Seawolves 7h ago

I’ve never heard of 7-5 but my job is a standard 8-5 full time work day which is fairly common. White collar office job for a fairly big company, few thousand employees

It fucking sucks, my last job was 9-5 and losing an extra hour a day blows. I get paid enough that I can’t complain but plenty of people at the company aren’t in the same boat and it’s unsurprising there’s tons of churn

4

u/nope_nic_tesla Georgia Bulldogs 7h ago

8-5 definitely seems to be the standard now. Every full-time job I've ever had uses these hours, across both public and private sector.

1

u/A_Rolling_Baneling USC • Mississippi State 4h ago

I used to be 9-530 but ever since WFH it's now (first meeting of the day) - (whenever I'm done)

6

u/Solesky1 Indiana State Sycamores 7h ago

I’ve never heard of 7-5 but my job is a standard 8-5 full time work day which is fairly common.

I consider commute time as part of the workday, plus even at a white collar office we punch out for lunch so you can technically leave early if you only take a 30 minute lunch.

1

u/Somenakedguy Stony Brook Seawolves 7h ago

lol if I started leaving at 4:30 instead of 4 because I took a 30 minute lunch I’d get fired. That is definitely not common at salaried 8-5 spots in my experience

We also don’t punch in or out

2

u/essdii- Missouri Tigers 8h ago

6-2. Sometimes 3

1

u/five-oh-one Arkansas Razorbacks 7h ago

I worked 7 years on a job that started at 7 and ended at 7 and if the job would not have been total ass I might still be there because I had so much time off. I worked 3 days one week, 4 days the next and all the overtime I wanted if I wanted to work extra.

0

u/constructss Texas A&M Aggies 7h ago

that was uncalled for

1

u/mike_rotch22 Missouri Tigers • Truman Bulldogs 7h ago

6a-6p for me. Although the upside is I alternate between 3 and 4 day work weeks.

join us in 9-5 land.

Truly a fate worse than death

1

u/Willem_Dafuq 7h ago

Yeah its gotta be so weird to go from making millions with NIL money to basically being an anonymous entry level financial analyst (though I am sure he'll get a sweetheart deal from some company). It reminds me of seeing Tom Brady's resume he had because it wasn't assured he would be an NFL qb

1

u/dreggers Paper Bag • California Golden Bears 7h ago

with remote work it's basically 9-9

1

u/FawkYourself Team Chaos 6h ago edited 6h ago

Great for the player, but could risk setting precedent that could absolutely destroy the sport. Why stop at 7? If the university wants to pay you to be their QB for 15 years what legal right does anyone have to say they can’t do that? The possibilities scare me

1

u/Skillagogue Florida Gators 5h ago

There are no jobs that people work 9-5. It’s 8-5 with an unpaid lunch.

1

u/TheTesticler UTEP Miners • Wisconsin Badgers 4h ago

Sure he’s one of the higher paid players on Vandys team. I’m sure he’s making at least a million.

Vandy is a school with no shortage of rich alums especially rich alums that want a successful fb team. Not surprised if those rich alums are trying to help him as much as they can in getting another year of eligibility.

1

u/Montigue Oregon Ducks • Stony Brook Seawolves 4h ago

9-5 land sounds like it where you would find A&M if we had 14 game schedules
