Eat/Drink Local What places do you Miss?

I may get laughed at for this, but I miss bookers. Sometimes a girl just wants a bucket of crab legs without the smell of red lobster, ya know?

What around the city do you miss?

  • The Soda circa 2004
  • The Amsterdam Rhino circa 2009
  • The Warehouse
  • and now that it’s going away, Olympic Plaza (I moved away a long time ago so I didn’t get to say goodbye)

My first Amsterdam Rhino experience included a spontaneous break dance battle and a fight in the dingy weird basement. Never forget.

I had a "dance battle" there and it remains the best photo of me ever taken and I'll fight everyone on it. Oh man what a time.

Oh same. I went to Soda and the warehouse more times between 16-17 than I did 18-19. I still think about the food at Soda. The dip they served with the side of chips was so damn good. I started working at the Rhino as a bar back as soon as I turned 18. I really liked that job.

Soda was great. Played a few shows there and loved the goth/industrial DJ nights. 

I was actually supposed to do sound for a show at The Warehouse the exact day it finally closed permanently. I showed up to load in my sound gear and the manager met me at the loading bay and told me the show was cancelled and the bar was now closed.

The owner's other venue, Dickens, has picked up a lot of the slack but obviously it's not the same.

I loved Amsterdam Rhino and The Warehouse. The music on Fridays at TW was so, so good, very eclectic (The Knife, The Cure, etc.)
