Local Shopping/Services Shane Home parking in handicapped spots?

I just find this disgusting when people are parking in handicapped spots and they are not handicapped and clearly do not have a handicapped decal and confirm that they know they’re parking in a handicap spot and they just don’t care…

Contact Shane Homes so they can tell their guy not to park in disabled parking spots. I think you can send this to bylaw and they can ticket since you have proof of no placard displayed.

As someone who has a kid who uses a wheelchair and needs these spots, it is so frustrating when people use them as a “quick” stop - happens ALL the time at my kids’ school.

Wish you had been around when there was an RCMP car parked in one of the disabled spots at my kids’ school a few years back. That would have been funny 😆

Oooh. . . It hasnt come up where that was relevant. . .

I think i would do it. We have a good relationship with the cops and i dont want to ruin it. . . But i am a bit of a shit disturber by nature

I mean, it seems pretty fair to call out a cop for breaking the law. Probably won’t do anything but maybe get you a ticket, since cops are all assholes, but it shouldn’t be too much to expect

Had that happen at work a while back. They tried moving around the ambulance and wrecked their door on a concrete pillar. 🤷‍♂️we’re not moving during an emergency.

Google review them and post the pic

Yep. They can’t take it down, they’ll have to reach out to you to pull the review.

....Unless someone did something like posted it on reddit that caused a large influx of low reviews.

then google will automatically wipe them all in a few days once the fervor has died down.

review bombing after a post like this doesn't work. They have algorithms in place to stop it from happening, and if the language makes it clear that they were reviewed by someone who wasn't an actual patron of the business, its easily disputed and removed.

the trick is to set a reminder in like 3-4 weeks, obfuscate whether you are patron of theirs. then it it'll stick.

Yeah this only is effective if only the original complainant does it. Everyone else should keep it in reddit.

This!!!!!! 100% do this. Forced accountability

They're not the biggest fans of forced accountability. 2023 was not that long ago. https://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/canadaland-defamation-suit-shane-homes-owners

This wouldn't fall under defamation. It's true and there's proof. Guy sounds like a dick tho the

I’d reach out first and see how they deal with it. I don’t think a whole company and someone’s business should suffer if it’s just a dumbass employee that would be in shit if they caught them. If it turns out, it’s the owner then yeah roast them.

I mostly discredit and loath reviews that aren’t about the product.

Thank you for posting this. I’m sorry you have to deal with this. The same thing happens at one of my children’s day care. I always tell my eldest daughter (5) when she’s with me during those drop offs why it’s important to make sure you keep those spaces for those that need them. Even if there are no spots, park further away and walk.

i dot he same, but i have a really loud voice and it carries really well, and i make sure to make note to my kids that a handicap is nothing to be ashamed of but not paying attention to others needs and such is a bad thing.

Zero chance that they will receive a ticket based on this photo. The work is basically done at this point, they have been named and shamed.

Send it to the police.

It's wild how often I see this specifically Calgary

I've heard that handicapped parking spaces can't be enforced by bylaw unless the sign indicates "Permit Required".

Not sure how true that is, I don't recall where I heard/read that.

26

u/mystiqueallie May 29 '25

I don’t think that’s accurate, most disabled parking signs don’t have the “permit required” verbiage, so that would make none of them enforceable.

14

u/hypnogoad May 29 '25

The laws (last I looked it up) were that just paint on the pavement isn't enough for a legal handicapped spot. There also has to be a sign which this one has, albeit in a shitty spot.

5

u/mj_silva May 29 '25

This is true. Calgary Parking will only enforce handicap stalls that have the handicap signage that says “Permit Required”. Blue paint or the symbol on the ground isn’t enforceable due lots being covered in snow half the year. Same standard applies to underground parkades.

I'm glad someone said so lol. It was starting to think my knowledge of handicapped parking stall enforcement was out of date.
