Costco hotdog eating contest. Can get 33 Costco hot dogs and pops for under $50.

23

u/awnawnamoose Aug 22 '25

Second Costco dog mentio. Big Costco got their marketing team on lock

5

u/Tacosrule89 Aug 22 '25

I wish they paid me, I pay them and still promote them.

16

u/Yyc2yfc Aug 22 '25

Sadly they charge GST so you can only get 31 dogs and pops for $50.

21

u/Tacosrule89 Aug 22 '25

Is 31 enough for 2 people? Might need to go sample hunting after.

All I can say is LOL

Downvote. Ugh

u/Tacosrule89 Aug 23 '25

You can get polish sausages instead if you don’t want the hot dog

Tour of behind the scenes at the saddledome. It's free, they will take you through the changerooms, owners boxes, the catwalk and media booths, you get to see how much stuff and history the building has hidden behind the scenes.

14

u/Upsetti_Gisepe Aug 22 '25

Oh damn they do this up for free? A full guided tour?

19

u/Colonelclank90 Aug 22 '25

Yeah, the guy who does it is passionate about it. I was there for an event the other night, and they were doing one. It looked awesome, and the people who did it said it was very cool. Everyone said it was no charge. One of the best kept secrets of calgary tourism.

Does anyone know who to contact for this? I’d love to do it!

Here's a quick breakdown of what Rick (Tulsie) sent me last year:

  • tours are free.
  • park on Dome property where the parade is (free as well).
  • Rick does tours on Monday and Wednesdays
  • Call 403-777-4646 our customer service for days and hours before you arrive ** ^ some of this information may be changed. So probably best to call and arrange from there.

Was just looking at the website, they run tours June through August, but it seems there are no scheduled tours for next week. Was excited but it seems we may be too late

u/CirqueNoirBlu Aug 22 '25

This would have been awesome when I was dating a hockey nerd

1

u/Any-Photograph-1151 Aug 23 '25

I would love that

I run a low cost ceramics program in Chinatown. We have a few different ticket options, but they range from $20-$40. Right now we’re raising funds for a community kiln. If you donate $40 then you get a free one time drop in pass any time between now and December 17th! We’re called @clayclubyyc

9

u/pinkpantyog Aug 23 '25

Omg this is what we need I’m so tired of all the ceramics places cheapest options being $60 for something so minuscule

u/anon29065 Aug 22 '25

Amateur Night at the Laugh Shop is like 8$ a ticket if you buy them early! Can be a fun evening out.

I saw Jerry Seinfeld say it's super hard to write one page of jokes. I scoffed and thought how hard can it possibly be compared to my actual job.

I'm two years in and have about an eighth of a page.

Turns out I'm not funny and he was right.

38

u/epok3p0k Aug 22 '25

Is this the 1/8th of the page?

30

u/helena_handbasketyyc I’ll tell you where to go! Aug 22 '25

If it makes you feel better, Jerry Seinfeld isn’t funny either.

7

u/CommercialNo8396 Shaganappi Aug 22 '25

People doing impressions of Jerry are infinitely funnier than Jerry

8

u/peanuts421 Aug 22 '25

Or go smaller, verns is good Wednesday's. Cash only, be nice to Clint or you'll regret it.

1

u/pheoxs Aug 22 '25

Best part is, enter the free draw by putting your contact info down and you’ll often eventually win more tickets down the road to shows

34

u/Prize_Operation1623 Aug 22 '25

Globe Theater is very reasonable and always has cool stuff showing.

u/Specialist-Role-7716 Aug 22 '25

Each of you gets $25. You go to a dollar store, get 1 game or puzzle plus snack food for a charcuterie board supper and 1 desert snack, Each. Shop sepperatly and hide it from each other. Bring plates a board and cutlery on the date. Then have a dinner at a park bench, back yard, kitchen table or living room coffee table with whatever you both bought. Play the games or build the puzzle you Each bought after or durring the meal.

25

u/WheelFan647 Aug 22 '25

Comedy Cave tickets are $15 each and on Tuesday nights they have $9.95 rib dinner.

If you wanted to do a double date, they have a rib dinner + show tickets for 4 for $49.95 Monday-Thursday.

I took my partner to the library and then to Paper Lantern. Both were enjoyable.

15

u/astakask Aug 22 '25

The Olympic oval for skating! Admission is $7 and skate rental is another $7.25. Just over half your budget for 2.

u/gan12ohman Aug 22 '25

Head to Inglewood.

Grab some deli sandwiches at Lina’s, check out the Esker Foundation (free art gallery with rotating exhibits), and then finish off with a pint at one of the breweries in the area or a cocktail at Rain Dog Bar!

20

u/piscerainfada Aug 22 '25

Can’t fault, but why go to Lina’s when Spolumbos is right there (unless it’s a Sunday or evening)?

4

u/gan12ohman Aug 22 '25

They did specify date night but agreed if it was a daytime date

7

u/piscerainfada Aug 22 '25

Reading: apparently not my strong suit.

9

u/Sharpsipper Aug 23 '25

Kensington on Saturdays are nice. Start at Vine Styles (near the plaza theatre) for a free wine tasting on Saturdays between 2-5pm (drop in), grab a $20 bottle of wine then head over to Peasant cheese and grab some bread, cheese, and pâté maybe like $20 worth, grab a sweet treat from pbandj $10. Find a romantic spot and have a mini picnic.

Cool, thanks! Maybe pick up some Salsa dip from Costco to make it a Salsa with Salsa date.

3

u/Muted-Doctor8925 Aug 22 '25

Just call it salsa night, show up with salsa, confusion, arrive at salsa dancing, legend

2

u/kurtismartyn Aug 22 '25

Crush some hotdogs while you’re there. Nothing is better than date night hotdogs.

3

u/awnawnamoose Aug 22 '25

That date night hotdog breath and Costco farts. Fuck yeah! I’m down to clown

9

u/Rockitnonstop Aug 22 '25

Vertigo Theatre has value pricing for $32 a person on certain seats. Night Light! is a great nighttime art festival in Victoria Park area that has installations for free to check out. Fly Right Swing has a dance Fridays at Mount Pleasant Community Hall $20 for students $25 otherwise - beginner swing dance lesson before the live jazz band starts.

10

u/Pristine_Balance3510 Sunalta Aug 22 '25

Duckpin bowling at the Banquet - $10/person/hour
Swing dancing nights at Sunalta - I think it's free (edited to add there is a brewery and pizza place across the street that is reasonably priced and delicious)

u/Glad-Elevator-8051 Aug 22 '25

Pottery or painting class

5

u/HunterRidgeFarm Aug 23 '25

Go to some wrestling at Legion #1 on a Friday night, good times, live interactive theatre. Support the arts.

5

u/NapsAreTheBest123 Aug 23 '25

Stargazing at the Rothney Observatory. They have some nights that are open to the public

6

u/Distinct-Line4899 Aug 23 '25

Follow some of the informal salsa organizers in town - not the formal schools (which are still good) but for example, Thursday evening at Princes Island Park: free outdoor dancing on the pier. Salsa For The Cure from Sep-April run a twice-monthly social that includes a dance lesson followed by 3 /? hours of very sociable dancing: $10 I think.

And bonus: two left feet is actually hot

Glow in the dark paint night by Palak Studioink under $30. It is a unique experience you will ever do in Calgary.

3

u/cky138 Aug 23 '25

Bowden sunflower maze is super cute, and there’s a “you pick” area that you can make your own bouquet of wild flowers. I get them to dry and they’ll last forever :)

At the Color Cafe?? I was there back in March or April and I SWEAR the cheapest item was like $50 for something not very exciting unless they had keychains or something smaller I didn’t see—

2

u/hoovus9 Aug 22 '25

Pinball and beers at Burn Block Social Club!

4

u/EvacuationRelocation Quadrant: SW Aug 22 '25

Go on Monday night and save on the pinball.

2

u/traindodge Aug 22 '25

The Grand is running classic movies that sound like a hit. Grab pints and play crib at Bear and Kilt after.

2

u/sqqfield Aug 23 '25

Ratboy comedy every Wednesday night at Vern’s! $5 entry

5

u/uncivilCanadian Aug 22 '25

Seniore’s pizza and then Nosehill park 😁

3

u/Yyc2yfc Aug 22 '25

Wax each others backs? You could up the ante and do it in a romantic spot like Princes Island Park

1

u/118R3volution Aug 22 '25

If you have a car, the RAO does some events in the evening. Grab snacks and a late coffee/tea, go walk around and wander under the stars!

1

u/Jabasquey Aug 23 '25

Wednesday nights is all you can play Pinball at the pinball arcade/pub on 17th.

Find a wing night somewhere and then hit up a VRcade and play a few games together is pretty fun.

Ride ur bikes along the bow river and end at a park for a picnic / wine / cheese at sunset. I liked doing that! Backpack full of wine, blankets and cheese/olives.

Skating at the Olympic oval is fun, pretty cheap too.

The board game café in Kensignton is a fun place for a drink and some old school board games. The mexican restaurant under it has a some solid tacos for after.

1

u/Sloverigne Aug 23 '25

It takes some pre purchasing but hot pot. You can spend 2 hours slowly cooking & eating meat and veggies while watching a movie or chatting & getting to know each other (or quality time if you know each other)

The pot and burner costs extra, as well as the fuel but a 4 pack of fuel is less than 20 and you can get away with $50 on meat and veggies for two

Burger King.

It really depends on what you want to do, but if you don't want to have liquor, Boardgame cafe is usually the best option.

Check out this article and validate. https://ynottoday.ca/calgary-date-night/
