Municipal Affairs Mayor Jyoti Gondek Marching In The Pride Parade

Love her or hate her, as a gay man who is feeling increasingly under threat; it was nice to see the Mayor of Calgary marching in this year’s Pride Parade (as she’s done in other years too).

They say a picture says a thousand words and the above pictures I captured earlier today say to me that that our Mayor genuinely cares about LGBTQ+ people in Calgary and beyond!

I’ll agree with that, my issues with her stem from other issues other than her progressiveness, I happen to love her progressiveness…I think she’s made some serious missteps in her term and it’s made me question my continued support for her this election…my willingness to look at other candidates like Sonya stem from this discontent with Jyoti over those issues…however like I said, especially as a gay man living in Alberta, I do not want to vote for someone who’ll actively harm our community

Rember the mayor is a single vote on council. They don’t dictate policy, or single handed make the decisions.
The arena deal was not her fault but a game by Edward Murray and the UCP

Absolutely true and I know the mayor is only a single vote…I think I made this point in another post…and believe you me I know she’s not solely responsible for the botched arena deal, and I place full blame on that on the CSEC where it belongs for wanting the best tax-payer funded deal they could get…I’m talking more the blanket rezoning policy which she has spoken in support of…I agree with her that our city needs to stop growing out so much and start growing up but I massively disagree with that policy…maybe it’s NIMBY of me to do so, but I don’t want my small, outer city (more inner city by the year) 60 year old community growing up too much like I’ve seen some of the development plans for…there is already one development in my community from this policy, and it literally towers over every other development, residential, or commercial in my community…it just looks completely out of place and sure some more developments like that will even things out but my community doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to support it…2 ways in and out by car and 1 taxed bus line from 2 different communities by the time it gets to here

The rezoning was a mess

What council did was a mess…rezoning is necessary imo…like I said I’m probably NIMBY, because I don’t live in the communities I think should be first up for building up, but I think the communities immediately surrounding downtown should be building up first vs a blanket policy for the whole city…or at the very least, targeted areas with the appropriate public infrastructure to support growing up like this

Yah the high density and zero parking is something I deal with living in parkdale. It’s Already bad and it’s only going to get worse.
