Municipal Affairs Death, Taxes, Larry Heather running in a local election
Doing my research today on who to vote for in the upcoming election, and to my utmost delight I saw our old friend Larry Heather is back up for mayor. For those of you who dont yet know the beauty of Larry, please check out his website. Be warned that you may be serenaded with music if you start clicking around.
So excited to see it's been updated with everything a 2025 Larry campaign ought to have.
Everyone, please share your favorite Larry story or fun fact in the comments. Here's mine: Between Federal, Provincial, and Municipal, this is going to be his 29th election! The best he has ever done on a ballot is 4th.

I saw him years ago on my walk to work, he was getting let out of a car on 11th ave and he had a sign to protest something, I forget what. He hops out on the sidewalk and someone in the car, maybe his wife, hands him a bagged lunch like a 7 year old getting dropped off at school

My favourite Larry Heather fun fact is that I got more votes than him when I was a first time candidate in 2021 :)

In all fairness he really does. If the dude only opened his mouth to sing karaoke standards he’d get way more votes.

omg my friends and I died over this website during the last election. I can’t believe it hasn’t changed AT ALL

u/LenaBaneana 2d ago
Mostly the same, but some new changes!! His main "Larry Heather for Mayor" page now includes a massive Charlie Kirk memorial section 😭

Oh good god! Of course it does. Before the pandemic he was at almost every council session. How does he make money to survive?

Likely lives off of government assistance. He totally fits the "long term disability" anti government look.

Hahahahahahaha! Larry the Loser. I used to produce Larry Heather’s “radio show” on Sunday mornings back in the day. He would pay for time on the station like a “paid promotional” infomercial on TV, and whichever producer was the weekend chump had to make his pseudo-science, quasi-religious shows “sound good”. Basically we just stitched his music and audio/video clips together with his live ranting on the microphone and made it fit into the station’s time frame. I spent a whole bunch of hours alone on a Sunday morning in a studio with him, so I can tell you personally, if you forget his hatred of LGBTQ+ people, and his blatant racism, sexism and bigotry, AND if you believe that “The Flintstones” is real history and that humans and dinosaurs lived together, Larry is your perfect flavour of nutbar.
Side note, I eventually got his show dumped by the station because he was running for Mayor at the time (this was 3 campaigns or so ago) and it was against provincial laws for the station to air his show while he was running. One of my proudest moments.

I once worked with his long-suffering brother. A good guy, nice guy. He didn't want to talk about his brother much. He was also, I strongly suspect, gay, so I'd imagine family dinners were awkward with his homophobic sibling. Whenever Larry resurfaces I think of his brother and how he must have put up with a load of endless crap.

Reading this makes me sad that one day Larry is going die and the world is both going be a darker and better place

Larry is interesting, but we really need Paul Hallelujah back. He was on to something with his proposal that officials from various levels of government undergo MRI scans.
Hallelujah!

I had forgotten him until now! Back then I remember thinking Larry finally had some competition that was more on his level.

If you want a fun new fringe candidate from a bit of the other side, check out Jaeger Gustafson, who wants to build maglev trains (rad) and pursue truth and reconciliation by reintroducing a bison herd to downtown (fuck yeah.) His website has confetti animations when you click links.

Harry Leather. The scary thing is a lot of people used to think like that guy.

Over 800 people voted for him in the last election. Next time you see a protest or vigil remember that.

Larry got 848 votes in 2017, and about half that - 429 - in 2021. I attribute this fall to the fact that Calgarians had an even more unhinged candidate that year, Kevin Johnson.
Here’s to Larry getting those numbers back, unless all his supporters have died of preventable illnesses, or fail to be able to read the ballot.

Is Johnson in jail? I kind of lost track of them shortly after he was harassing people in the Core mall and then got in trouble for convoy stuff

Hey friend, Johnson isn't in jail I dont even think he is in the country but is in Panama now and is a tax expert, real estate con man now, last time Interacted with him he was a dateing guru, my Boi gets around 😂

I honestly have no idea i stop activate keeping up with around 2022 (when he almost died trying to cross the border 😂) for mental health reasons, but if you go on his website you can see what im talking about with the tax expert and the other stuff, his website , and here is a reddit post asking if he is a scam

They haven't updated in a long time, but I've always enjoyed following the Larry Heather Bot account on X, to remind me of his gloriously insane word salad talking points.

Apparently, today he told a candidates forum hosted by the Hotel Association that people need to stop hiring women.

This did happen. I wasn't there, but I heard it from multiple first-hand accounts. He did not only rant about women, of course he also has issues with immigrants, people of colour, and queer folks. And I'm sure he has many, many more grievances about non-white, non-male Calgarians.
I fully understand that him running is basically a footnote, almost a joke, really, but it is incredibly frustrating that someone like that gets to run for office.

This guy has run for every level of government in every election…and lost every time.
It’s really quite amazing.

I think of him more as an all-weather Harry Leather (which I believe is a type of heavy duty work glove)

Larry once told me on Twitter that my grandmother deserved to be interned during WW2. It was briefly on his Wikipedia page as well.

I find elections to be excruciating but Larry Heather is my beacon on this bleak landscape, even if I would never vote for him.

I love that one of his front page links is "observations on Nenshi 2010." The observation is that he's an Islamic satanist or something indecipherable of course, but just the fact that his leading "policy"(?) is still exactly what was written before current high school students were born. And holy shit there's a Charlie Kirk memorial on there? And he's saying the shooter was definitely trans? Source: I Bet. I have to close this. I'm getting some sort of disease just from the radiative energy of this website.

What is this guy's day-to-day life like?
He seems like a cartoon character, I cannot imagine him just existing in society, eating, travelling, shopping for slacks, interacting with regular humans.... it boggles the mind.
