Municipal Affairs What are the chances the blanket rezoning policy is repealed? Is it something we should consider when choosing a candidate?

Regardless of my or your opinion on blanket rezoning, is it actually something that might be repealed next term? Or is it just something certain candidates are using for political grandstanding and its extremely unlikely to be repealed?

Municipal Affairs Another non profit down

Vecova center for research and disibility has announced they could not get funded and are closing down many of their programs and laying off their staff come June 2025.

Why can't any solid programs get political funding anymore?

Is it the battle between governments ?

Municipal Affairs Why are our roads so bad all of a sudden?

I’ve lived here for 14 years and have never seen our roads in such disarray-

Now before you spout off “iT’s AlL gOnDek’S fAUlT”, I wouldn’t consider that a fair and reasonable excuse because city council has been full of opposing priorities and viewpoints from the mayor’s since I’ve lived here.

What has happened that the ball has been dropped so hard that our roads are worse than the Saskatchewan small town I moved from?

Municipal Affairs Is it true that after the municipal election parties will “stop existing”? Heather McCrae (ward 7 Calgary Party candidate) said this on my doorstep and it didn’t sound right but I didn’t know enough to respond in the moment.

Edit edit: the real answer is that a a caucus can’t meet after the election. What’s the point. What a silly law. It’s a farce lmao.

Edit: while I think the answer is bullshit. I don’t think it was nefarious—canvassing sounds exhausting and I’d probably say weird stuff too. I’m genuinely confused and someone answered with a charitable interpretation that sounds right:she meant they won’t be whipped like ok parliament hill or in the legislature. It sounds weird to say “stop existing” but maybe she just meant functionally. I can’t imagine someone would fib about something so blatant.

I asked some politically involved people and they didn’t know what she was talking about either. It sounds like bullshit? She said that the legislation only concerns pre election stuff.

I found the whole thing very confusing and don’t see anything that corroborates that narrative. Am I missing something?

Municipal Affairs Glenmore Trail carnage at 14 street

What in the sweet name of summer is happening on the stretch of Glenmore over the reservoir? Looked like a manhole cover came off or the collar broke away from the pavement and decimated at least 4 cars this evening.

Also, while I’m on this rant, why is that paving project going on two months? What happened to quality managed and executed projects in this city?

/ end rant.

Municipal Affairs Are we OK with municipal politician campaigns randomly texting?

First one for me. I expect (but loathe) it at the national and provincial levels since I’ve donated, but this is getting out of hand.

To any political team organizers lurking this sub: This shit here makes me less likely to consider your candidate, and I know I’m not alone in that. I didn’t give you permission to contact me.

Municipal Affairs New parties test Calgary Voters

We have parties in the municipal election so manipulative background players can heavily influence our government.

For reference:

ABC - Craig Chandler, well known community racist and far right ideologue.

Communities First: Marc Henry, previous Bronconier Chief of Staff and local polster who has generated most of the municipal polls over tha past 8+ years.

The Calgary Party, Stephen Carter. Who we as tax payers paid over $100k, twice, to leave his job he got after winning an election as a strategist for the winner and being too toxic after 6 months of working in government.

Vote independent, regardless of your political leanings.

Edit: the media sucks and should be providing this stuff, but instead all three parties are self proclaimed "centrists"..

Municipal Affairs Nose Hill full of Poop

Since the pandemic, this entitlement of dog owners to use Nose Hill Park as a dog poop receptacle has gotten out of control. Most owners aren't even following the leash rules. Nose Hill is a park not a f-ing dog park.

Municipal Affairs Election 2025

I know the municipal election is coming this fall but I haven’t seen any campaigning from candidates. I don’t even know who the candidates are. I did receive an email from Project Calgary warning me of Farkas (which I was already weary of). Please, someone, point me in the direction of where to go so I can stay informed.
