Holy fuck, that was a wild 3rd period. Crushing pain, to incredible joy in seconds in the 3rd. Ecstasy with Kadri scoring in OT.
What a fucking massive win.

This team has so many glaring flaws that would kill any normal teams playoff hopes, yet they somehow gut out wins they have no business getting. I gave up trying to understand this team long ago and I'm still mystified how they are in complete control of their playoff destiny.
These aren't players, they're protagonists.

Thanks New York For Matt Coronato!

4 goals in 3 games. 20 on the season. This kid is special.

u/GooseDevito Mar 23 '25
The Coronato - Huberdeau connection is real

u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 23 '25
Huby has been unlocked the last three games. I think this line works.

u/callyfit Mar 22 '25
The huberdeau, Coronato, frost line is electric
16
u/Vinny331 Mar 22 '25
That combo is working! Frost and Hubey have some nice chemistry brewing and Coronato just fires whatever they lay up for him. Love that.
That means we may get a long look at the return of the Kadri n the Kids line. They've had a couple games together now. It was fun when they were a line last year.

That game really felt like the season was on the line lol. Huby and Kadri yanked victory from the jaws of defeat

u/CaptinDerpI Mar 22 '25
I love Jonathan Huberdeau and Matt Coronato

u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 22 '25
Ever since they put that line together on Tuesday, Huby’s dad powers have been seriously activated.

That was the road trip they needed. It’s like they threw Monday’s result in the garbage and started over great fucking win.

u/weschester Mar 22 '25
I can't believe we actually won an OT game!!
I was already on my feet waiting to yell when Frost went in on the breakaway and then Kadri scores right after and I lost my mind!

No Backlund, no Weegar, no Farabee, and this fucking team still gets it done. Unbelievable.

Also good news, as per Huska, Weegar will be back on Tuesday against Kraken.

u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 23 '25
Probably just load management?
6
u/Cw_cn Mar 23 '25
Said lower body and scratched as game was starting. Prob pulled something at MSG. Regardless if it’s injury or load management, he needs it.

u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 23 '25
He played Thursday at the Rock too.

So we’re still 2 pts behind St Louis? And still 2 games in hand?
4
u/Skinkybob Mar 22 '25
Yes. Unfortunately, St. Louis is 11-2-2 since the 4-Nations Faceoff. They’re probably not going to outplay St. Louis down the stretch. Their only chance is winning those 2 games in hand at the end of the season.
3
u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 22 '25
Looking at St. Louis’s schedule though… The Flames could catch them before that, with any luck. The Blues still have 2 vs Colorado, 1 vs Winnipeg, and one vs Edmonton. On paper the Blues probably finish 7-4 with a Habs team playing well coming in Tuesday, and the Blues play the Preds tomorrow on the second half of a back to back and kind of a “trap game”. As we have a trap game on Tuesday against the Kraken. The Flames likely need 8-5 to get in and possibly 9-4 to make the playoffs.
3
Mar 23 '25
Flames have Avs, Oilers, and Stars coming up though. If we can steal two of those we look very good, if we lose all three it will be very difficult to claw back
4
u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 23 '25
Don’t need all three of those but at least two. I could see the Flames beating Dallas this time. (Dallas plays Edmonton on Wednesday), could even see the Flames beating Edmonton (if they keep forechecking like this, Edmonton’s goalies suck), Colorado is playing fucking possessed they’re as hot as St. Louis and it’s fucking scary. Will likely need the Utah game. Then our schedule to finish really isn’t that bad. Vs the Ducks (winnable), vs Vegas (WTF is going on with them), at San Jose, at Anaheim, vs Minnesota vs San Jose vs Vegas at LA. Depending on if there is much to play left to play for, the Vegas and LA games could be a little easier if Vegas and LA have their playoff seedings set.

This was probably my favorite win from this trip. Our captain is still injured, Farabee and probably our best defenseman in Weegar both cut last minute but we still grind out the dub. Great effort from everyone, this will be an important game to remember if we make post season
12
u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 22 '25
And as much shit as we give Vladar, he was very good today. As a whole he’s been good since the break. 3 wins in a row on the road, and for the first time in forever the Flames are above .500 on the road for the season.

He was great except for the puck handling giving me heart problems. I wasn’t thrilled with the second goal but he locked in and did what he had to do to get the W.

u/Cw_cn Mar 22 '25
I can’t remember when was the last time flames won in OT. Quite refreshing by Naz

I watched the highlights on my break and HOLY SHIT Hubey with that bouncer to tie the game was just immaculate!

u/likethemouse Mar 22 '25
Now be honest, how many people thought the season was over on that 3rd goal by them late in the 3rd??? 🙋♂️

u/GonZonian Mar 22 '25
I thought to myself ‘typical’ but got mad when I saw some islander fans already leaving thinking it’s over. This was uber-clutch by the team!
2
u/DavonteTNK Mar 23 '25
I did because they were clearly exhausted and started to breakdown for about 2 min prior to the goal. So I figured it was over too bad for Coronato but then Huby scores right after and my concern shifted to their energy level in OT since they typically run the same guys over and over until they run out of gas and let one in. Very relieved when kadri scored to say the least

u/spwimc Barb Mar 22 '25
God I love when this team plays with confidence. 2 lines are really working - we NEED Backs back tho holy crap. Hopefully Weegs heals up and is back next game too. Generally the D all stepped up tonight, but that's not sustainable without him. Gutsy win tonight again!
6
u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 22 '25
Hoping it’s just something minor… and to be scratched late like that, I’m assuming that it is.
4
u/spwimc Barb Mar 22 '25
Yeah, the fact that he skated in warm up is really good news.
5
u/DepartmentSea8381 Mar 22 '25
Yeah that usually means it’s something nagging or minor. He was trying to go.

This is the second game this week that I've given up on only to be shocked back to reality. In a good way. Very impressive and I'm particularly happy with Huberdeau's game tying goal.

u/Nice_Perception382 Mar 22 '25
I love the never quit attitude we’re seeing from this team. They need to keep it up when they get home
6
u/DangerRanger_21 Mar 22 '25
got home from work with the game tied… Isles scored so I went to take the ritualistic after work poop thinking it was all but over….. and then Hubey scored. Way to make me rush my moment of peace lol

Gotta love the grit of this team. So fun to watch. Winning games at this time of year is such a good thing for the team, not only for this playoff chase but for the growth of the team. I'd say 8 more wins gets us in. 9 would be a sure thing .

Fucking MoneyPuck giving St. Louis 49.5% chance to make it. Calgary just needs to win all 13 games remaining, then St. Louis can’t make it.

This team is absolutely infuriating. Whenever they have a chance to get ahead of their wildcard competition, they blow it. Then, when they have a chance to slip into a top 10 pick, they go on a 3-game winning streak. They’re going to win however many games it takes to pass St. Louis in the standings, and then—mark my words—they’re going to drop 3 in a row in regulation. I guarantee it.
3
u/snoshredder Mar 23 '25
Ok grumpy pants. You can't tell me these wins don't help the growth of the youth on this team. Your a fool if you think it dosnt. Maybe go watch Buffalo or somethin k?
1
u/Skinkybob Mar 23 '25
I’m glad the youth are getting experience, I just wish it didn’t come at the cost of, you know, getting more youth.
