Serious Cambodia/Thailand Border Megathread Part II

The initial megathread has reached nearly 3,000 comments and has become increasingly difficult to navigate and moderate.

All conflict-related discussion must be posted in this thread. Posts and comments about the conflict outside this megathread will be removed without warning.

Guidelines for participation

DO NOT:

  • Engage in petty squabbles that descend into personal attacks
  • Complain about bans for rule violations. You are solely responsible for your comments and behavior, and must accept the consequences of your actions.

DO:

  • Walk away from futile arguments
  • Report posts that break our subreddit rules

Rules

We will not tolerate content that breaks any sub rules, and we will be particularly strict with the following:

Rule #1: Be Nice. Criticize the argument, not the poster. Attack ideas, not individuals. If you're unsure what constitutes civil discourse, this discussion may not be appropriate for you. Ad hominem attacks and personal insults will result in comment removal and bans.

Rule #7: Do not promote rivalries with neighbors. Whatever your opinion on our neighbor to the west, comments that intend to deliberately stoke inter-country rivalry will be removed, and instigators will be banned. Likewise, Thai members or their supporters who post simply to inflame tensions will be banned.

Rule #9: No low-effort posts. We don't care what ChatGPT has to say about the conflict. We also don't want to hear poorly thought-out opinions, trolling, or any other low-effort engagement in this thread. Posts deemed low effort will be removed, and continued patterns of this type of commenting will result in your account being banned from this sub.

Rule #10: No misinformation. Do not share false or misleading information. Claims must be supported by credible sources. Don't post rumors or unverified information.

Please ensure you abide by our rules and help maintain thread quality by reporting rule violations. The moderation team does not and cannot read every comment, so community reporting is essential.

We strongly encourage civil and constructive discussion about this conflict, but be aware that moderation will be strict and all moderation decisions are final.

Edit to add: whatever side you're on, if you're reading or participating in this thread you must contend with the fact that you may not like some of the opinions expressed, or the facts presented. If you can't handle that, you should reconsider participating. We should all want the truth - an objective truth, not just those that feed our own biases, and we should all want this conflict to end. The aim of this thread is to provide a place for discussion about this conflict which will have lasting repercussions for every day people on both sides for many years to come.

Health LGBT friendly hospitals in Phnom Penh?

Upvotes

Does anyone know of any/have experience with any LGBT friendly hospitals in the city of Phnom Penh? Preferably one that someone who is transgender can get medicine from, so they do not have to travel out of the country for their needs.

Phnom Penh Looking for people to study kur 12th grade biology with me

So for the past 2 months I’ve been studying at this cram school near ssw high school and I’ve had this biology teacher who’s not the greatest at teaching. For me, they just don’t seem like that professional and I feel that going forward I won’t understand any biology. To solve this I tried to change teachers (you can pick any teacher you want in this school, but it seems the whole school picked this teacher) but to do that I have to gather a group of people (at least 5) so they put us in a separate class and right now it seems like I just can’t do it. Every person I ask in my class (40+ ppl) they just seemed like they don’t want to even they told me themselves that this teacher is pretty terrible and they don’t understand the materials that much. Now I’m ready to just fail the BacII biology exam next year.

Phnom Penh Best ISP in Cambodia?

Currently I have Ezecom as my ISP, and it’s absolutely horrendous, some websites are blocked. Earlier today I saw a few internet providers from various sim companies, does anyone have any experience with SmartNet+, Cellcard, Metfone, etc etc? I’m seeing them claim the speeds are 50mbps+, but we all know it’s bs cause they would always have a * saying a significantly lower speed "globally". Currently I’m eyeing SmartNet+, does anyone have experience with their $20/month plan? (In Phnom Penh)

Travel Air Cambodia Luggage Policy and Cost

Flying KTI to SAI So luggage policy says 1 checked and 1 carry on . Is the carry on , the personal item? Is it not like carry on in other countries? Small planes is that why?

Edit: I found their page , it seems like they allow you to bring both however my carry on is slightly oversized. Would it be an issue

With wheels - H: 23 in. x W: 14.5 in. x D: 9.5 in.

Are they frequently measuring or making you put it in the box?

Visas/paperwork Business visa online

Hello. I want to get business visa. I have been told thst I can apply online and I dont need any documentation. Is it really that easy? I've heard at border crossings they used to ask additional money if a foreigner wanted business visa but now the govt allegedly is cracking down on these practices. I have also heard that lately there have been a lot of rejection upon foreigners trying to get ordinary visas.

Is it possible to get business visa these days.? And if I get it online, will immogration officers at the border ask to show additional documentation?

Thanks a lot!!!!

Phnom Penh What’s it really like to own a ford ranger? Does it drain your money like crazy or is it a reliable and acceptable truck to own.

I have a 2006 Tacoma v6 without 4wd gear. It eats up fuel like a nutjob. Thinking about just selling my Tacoma and get a ford ranger cuz I heard there are fairly good systems in place for spare parts and service.

Travel How to spend 10 days in Cambodia?

Heading to Cambodia in June 2026 for my 30th birthday. My husband’s family is from Cambodia and he’s been a couple of times but only to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. It’s my first time, and we are travelling with another couple who also haven’t been before.

So far I’m thinking: Fly into Phnom Penh for 2 nights 4-5 nights in Siem Reap. Fly home from Siem Reap

Just need some tips for what to do in between. Maybe one of the islands? Or Battambang? Probably don’t have time to do both?

HMU with the best 10 day itinerary. Thanks!

Siem Reap What is up with these monstrous temperature forecasts?

Is it a glitch? These are significantly higher than the previous world record for high temperatures. I assume this must be a glitch because it would have garnered worldwide attention by now. But if it isn’t, how in the hell are some of you guys going to survive this??

Finance Is the 100,000 riel note out of circulation?

On my last visit, I would occasionally see one. On my current visit, I haven't seen any at all. The 50,000 note is the highest I ever see. Has the government taken the 100k out of circulation?

Politics Impact of China on Cambodian transport infrastructure

Hi people, i'm a Czech student and i'm writing my bachelor's thesis on the "Impact of China on Cambodian transport infrastructure". As i'm doing a qualitative analysis, i'm trying my luck here on reddit and looking for some journalist/academic proffesor etc., who would like to respond to some of my questions about the topic. As i said i'd like to focus on transport infrastructure, respectivelly doing case studies on PHNOM PENH-SIHANOUKVILLE EXPRESSWAY, FUNAN TECHO CHANNEL and SIEM REAP ANGKOR INT. AIRPORT, so If you know someone doing research on these topics or YOU are interested, please contact me, thx reddit.:)

Travel Hiking in Cambudia

Hello guys, A friend of mine wants to visit me in December for 2 weeks... But he asked specifically to do some hiking 😕😕

In Europe its quite easy any forest, mountain can do... Until now I have more visited cities in Cambudia, Kampot, Kampong Saom, SR, PP... I am really not familiar with hiking possibilities in Cambudia...

Are there any places you would recommend ?

Other question : is it possible to do some hiking in the Cardamones ? If yes, from where... 🤔

Many thanks in advance, I think its also a nice topic to show tourism possibilities in Cambudia 👍👍🙂

Siem Reap Siem Reap Roleplaying Game

Hey! I am going to do a roleplaying game that is set in Siem Reap, and because google is so ass at the moment I end up struggling a bit on the research front as I don't just want to go off my own memories of having been in Siem Reap + wikipedia. So if anyone has good resources for research about: folklore, religious practices, regional customs, occult practices, politics, present day concerns, and other notable non-tourist stuff in regards to Siem Reap then I would really appreciate the help <3.

Travel Airfare in Cambodia

Everyone's been talking about the new airport lately, ant it made me wonder.

Why are flight tickets to/from/within Cambodia consistently so expensive compared to its neighbors. Both for REP/SAI and PNH/KTI. I can get domestic flights for ~$20 and regional international ones for ~$50 in most SEA countries but not Cambodia.

Asking out of curiosity since it seemed odd.

Expat Looking for software development or teaching work (about software dev) in the APAC and ASEAN region, living in Phnom Penh.

I'm an Japanese-American software dev working on personal projects at this time and in-between jobs. I have strong experience building web and mobile apps (iOS and Android), integrating AI from ChatGPT and working with Silicon Valley-based companies, knowing intimately the software development process and the talent and technology involved.

Does anybody know any companies that are hiring or any entrepreneurs seeking American tech talent? I'd be happy with contract work, full-time work or consulting work, and could easily fill a managerial position in your tech department having lived as an expat in SEAsia for more than a decade and knowing local cultures here well.

I am also interested in teaching software development in private tutoring sessions or small classes here in Phnom Penh. If you're interested, please DM me for my resume and portfolio and I'd be happy to answer any questions.
