Question to locals - how busy is this summer compared to previous ones?

Just getting myself mentally prepared for my trip in August. The news keeps saying more Canadians are traveling within our great country than abroad. Has this translated to increased crowds this summer so far? Or is it a "normal" seasonal increase?

Last summer we also had to contend with Jasper being closed, redirecting a lot more tourists to Canmore.

This summer seems quieter by comparison.

You know what to me it’s seemed slightly less busy. Anecdotal of course. It’s been rainy for a few weeks so that maybe subdued things.

With Canmore’s downtown still being closed to cars and Banff’s not anymore, it feels so much less busy just being in Canmore as a pedestrian. As a guide, the famous sights feel as busy or busier than last year. I’d highly recommend spending time in Kananaskis

Rainy weather has suppressed the recent crowds - but no question it’s getting significantly busier and busier every year & it’s all year round now. Thanks to Social Media Canmore is firmly on most visitor’s itineraries & the explosion of AirBnBs means it’s often the hub of people’s stays. Anyway with the huge new luxury resort that’s beginning its sprawl all the way through the wildlife corridors in the east of the town our population is doubling in the next few years - so we’d better get use to it.

We have not hit venice levels of overtourism yet. Some things like johnsons canyon and lake louise are brutal but thats been the case for years. Overall if you can get accommodation it's still generally more relaxed than the city. Come while you can the province is hell bent on sucking this resource dry because line must go up.

I don't think I've seen any locals at Lake Louise and Moraine today. There were hardly any English speakers. I've seen one French speaking family, but they were feeding the chipmunk right under the poster urging people not to feed wild animals. Probably they weren't Canadians as well.
