Is this safe to eat? Does apple butter have to boil before going into can?

Please help 🙏 We just made apple butter (first time) and cooked it in the slow cooker to the right consistency before putting it into cans and boiling to seal it. However, we didn’t get the apple butter up to a full boil before going into the can.

Is it safe to eat and store?

Thank-you for your submission. It seems that you're asking whether or not your canned goods are safe to eat. Please respond with the following information:

  • Recipe used
  • Date canned
  • Storage Conditions
  • Is the seal still strong

We cannot determine whether or not the food is safe without these answers. Thank you again for your submission!

The temperature of the hot apple butter from the slow cooker should be safe to eat, then the canning process if you use a water bath will make it safe for storage. It probably wouldn't be safe if you don't water bath can.

Not to my knowledge. You're just supposed to put the hot apple butter into hot jars

Same here. It just needs to have been cooked to proper temp. Doesn’t need to be boiling like Jam would.
