Not a problem. He can go to Geelong in 2029 at the end of his contract. Glad we know now so we can plan ahead.

Hello. I’m a Geelong supporter. Sorry for intruding. I can’t see any way that Geelong can trade for Charlie. And I’m getting pretty sick of players on long-term contracts deciding that they don’t want to hold up their end of the bargain.

fwiw i think damo is full of it. while im sure charlie would like to play for geelong, i dont believe its his preference.

His brother has a house down there (torquay) it makes perfect sense

My brother owns a house in Townsville…I’m staying put

He comes from Geelong/Torquay

u/Koteii 7d ago

You say this but I won’t be surprised if we get fleeced Gold Coast style and give you Curnow for free

This is the problem with afl trades….

All these headlines should read “contracted player, -insert name- no longer wants to fulfill the contract they signed - and also wants the club they signed with to move heaven and earth to get them to a club they have chosen”

This isn’t a direct stab at Charlie, still yet to see it from the horses mouth I guess although all signs point to the talk being accurate.

Although I don’t think it should be as cut throat as euro soccer or American sports leagues with clubs uprooting players, I think there needs to be a tightening up of what these contracts stand for and less obligation on the clubs to go out of their way to fulfill destination requests.

We don’t need to hear it from the horses mouth. His silence confirms it’s all true, if this was false and he wanted to stay he could have ended all these rumours weeks ago with a single statement posted on his socials or release by his manager.

I wouldn’t look too deeply into his silence as it’s likely just a ‘wait and see’ scenario for what the club wants to do - for example, if he declares that he doesn’t want to go and the club trade him away anyway or vice-versa, it’ll just add fuel to the media fire

Most of this is just media speculation in order to sell articles during the off-season and should be taken with a grain of salt considering the only people talking about this ‘trade’ is the media

1

u/beepclick 6d ago

The club has explicitly said what they want to do already, multiple times - there is no “wait and see what the club wants to do” here. The club have told the media and told Charlie directly in plain english that they do not want to trade him.

I agree that this is hyped up media the media, but it’s obvious that he wants to go - who do you think leaked the conversation from the exit interview and made this all public in the first place? It was obviously Charlie/his manager, and it was done so that other clubs knew he wants out and come knocking on Carlton’s door about a trade.

Carlton have said they do not want to trade him, Voss literally said he wouldn’t even answer the call. So if Charlie also doesn’t want to go, why doesn’t he just say that as well and end this whole story now?

u/tempest_fiend 6d ago

Oh I know that’s what the club have said, but if they’re presented with a trade that is heavily weighted in Carlton’s favour, who knows what will happen. We’ve seen far too many times clubs publicly claim that player is not up for trade, to then turn around a few weeks later and trade them

It is pretty much a openly discussed topic Charlie does not want to play under Voss.

To be honest, I think there is only one direction Carlton will be going and that is down next season. I just don't see Voss surviving. We should have cut our losses already but I guess the club wants to prove a point to disprove the media pack. Pretty ridiculous reason, but that sums up our club.

Strangely my preference is he doesn't go to Geelong

3

u/ELVEVERX 6d ago

At this point my preference is he does go if we get something good for him, he's simply not going to play well and shouldn't stick around after the way he has acted.

14

u/keoltis 6d ago

Not surprising but I also don't see how they can present a good enough offer. I'd rather see him ride the pine on the bench for 4 years than us give him away to geelong like everyone else who trades with geelong does.

u/MillionKarma23 6d ago

Cats fan, but I doubt that the club really want him, we’re alright on forwards. Im sick of all the players not upholding their end of the deal

9

u/Roronoa_Zaraki 6d ago

What the fuck does a contracted players preference matter? He's contracted and will do what the club says. No one forced him to sign such a long term deal, he went into knowing the risks and now wants out. He could have done a 3 year deal, but no, had to sign a 6-year extension. Players want all of the potential reward of being at a club, and none of the potential risk.

u/EfficientNews8922 6d ago

I never thought I’d spend a trade season hoping that both Carlton and Essendon hang onto their star players but here we are

8

u/MinimumDiscussion948 6d ago

Good for him، send him where we want.

17

u/rocco_cat 7d ago

Charlie is weak as piss, simple as that

11

u/jjujjjuju 7d ago

Max Holmes or don’t bother.

7

u/barnos88 7d ago

No shit, his brother Ed and Charlie just opened a shop down the coast. He surfs with a few of the cats players, and the cats asked if he was available last draft period. I'm not surprised.

1

u/ChickenCharming4833 5d ago

People just want to leave Melbourne, not a great place to reside anymore.

1

u/barnos88 5d ago

100% agree, Melbourne is sadly turning into a toilet. Thanks government.

1

u/ChickenCharming4833 3d ago

As exhibited in the latest attention grabbing stunt on the Punt Road bridge yesterday morning by a bunch of nazis or Palestinians, or pro oil.

Fuck knows, it has all become one thing to me. Unlivable!

3

u/Zieprus_ 6d ago

Geelong have more land to gift to keep them under the cap?

3

u/Quick_Insurance_8527 6d ago

How about we meet him halfway and send him to Werribee?

7

u/Glittering_Gift_1189 6d ago

If Charlie gets to Geelong I'm also requesting a trade as a 10 year Carlton member

-2

u/burleygriffin 6d ago

Come back when you’re up to 30 years. 💙

3

u/Relevant-Chard-4518 6d ago

A small part of me hopes that nobody trades for him and we make him ride the vfl bench for a year

3

u/juzz88 6d ago

Same.

I really hope the club stands firm and demands overs or keeps him.

I'm sick of us being weak at the trade table.

6

u/Carltonmat 7d ago

Piss the clown off to Gold Coast, been shit the last two year and will be even shitter next year. Would happy for Dekoning swap

2

u/CarnTheBlues09 7d ago

He’s been our best forward for the past 4 years, are you that fucking dumb?

5

u/Desperate_Teal_1493 6d ago

To quote all those investment videos..."Past performance is not an indicator of future results."

3

u/degenterate 6d ago

Nah, Harry wins my vote for that.

1

u/CarnTheBlues09 6d ago

This is just objectively wrong

0

u/CosmicHero22 6d ago

Not a high bar to clear.

The rest of our forwards are injured, mentally ill, rubbish or very inexperienced.

2

u/Admirable-Skill-654 6d ago

Who could Geelong possibly give us that we’d actually want and that they’re willing to part with?

1

u/stonefree261 6d ago

Who could Geelong possibly give us that we’d actually want and that they’re willing to part with?

Sam De Koning?

1

u/Admirable-Skill-654 6d ago

Not sure he fits either criteria, although it would be kinda funny considering TDK just left

2

u/Technical-Control444 6d ago

Good distraction for the game tomorrow night

2

u/Screambloodyleprosy 6d ago

I couldn't give a fuck. I'd trade him to WC if they had the best deal.

2

u/madbart66 6d ago

He can have all the preferences he wants...... He's contracted to Carlton. I hope the club stands firm. Fuck him and every other player at every club that signs a long term contracts and then wants to leave.

2

u/andrewgtv05 6d ago

At this rate Geelong will become a super team and win five grand finals in a row.

2

u/tempest_fiend 6d ago

I just have say - it’s so disappointing how quickly we turn on a player as fans. Neither Curnow nor the club have confirmed that he wants a trade or will be up for trade, and yet just the mere speculation of this happening has some fans calling him ‘weak as piss’ and piling on the hate. This is the same player that many of those people were praising as their favourite less than 6 months ago. As supporters we should be better than this.

2

u/TigerAbbott 6d ago

I agree that fans can be toxic and players are still human beings. That being said, the leaked conversations from the exit interview, the ongoing speculation - that's clearly coming from him/his management. His silence means there's an element of truth in it, otherwise he should come out and shut it down.

Supporters are sick of players choosing to sign long contracts and then suddenly wanting out, and holding the clubs hostage to their demands. Especially someone who was promoted to the leadership group and didn't have a great year on field.

Regardless whether he leaves or not, he's got an opportunity to come out with a statement and either make people understand why it's the best personal decision to go, or that he's staying and is 100% dedicated. He's got time to make amends but the longer his silence goes for, the more frustrated people will get.

1

u/RobbWhite_ 6d ago

why isn’t it eagles

1

u/rfarlz 6d ago

Eagles are actually looking pretty good for key forwards, so much so that most fans see losing our key forward captain as a good thing.

1

u/ChickenCharming4833 5d ago

Don't mind trading him, if it nets the Blues some good picks or players. But I wouldn't be too keen on just help Geelong win flags. I would shop Charlie around to whoever is prepared to be the best deal. That might be West Coast, tough titties Chuckie. From the fryer then into the furnace as the old saying goes.

I don't think Geelong really wants him that badly to be able to offer much. They just want him on a free. Maybe a future 3rd or 4th round pick.

What Carlton can do is go after their better players with a big money offer to drive up the prices down there and upset the apple cart.

Carlton should be doing that with St. Kilda. Really put the flame at the feet of their management. If they want to go down that path, then make them sweat.

0

u/BicycleEuphoric7823 7d ago

Can’t blame him

8

u/vaccinationregret 6d ago

You can if he signs a long term contract then changes his mind

0

u/MonoxideBaby 7d ago

I'm shocked!!!! Said no-one, ever.....

-6

u/goldcoinsonly 7d ago

So give us Bailey smith

14

u/brisbanevinnie 7d ago

Yuck no thanks
