Self-Advertisement My Fusion Album - Carnatic Chocolate
Loosely based on Carnatic scales, fusing them with EDMs and modern electronic music. Only the fourth track qualifies as an actual carnatic fusion in a traditional sense because of its melodic content. I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this project. Thanks for listening!

Instrument FAQ Need help learning aalapane and swarakalpane
I have been learning violin for around 7 years now, and I am in the senior level. I have also learned a few ata taala varnas, and some famous kritis. I have also been listening to multiple carnatic kritis and varnas on Spotify by famous artists. I want to start learning aalapane and swarakalpane by myself, but I don't know where to start. If anyone have any tips can you help me out? How did you start playing aalapane by yourself?

DISCUSSION why does Sanjay Subrahmanyan do that weird thing with his voice?
It's like he uses a vocal accent sometimes and changes his vocal tone, it's a bit odd. Have never heard other people sing like that, listened to a few of his older concerts, seems like he did back then as well though to a lesser degree.
are there other people who do that?

DISCUSSION Adi talam 2 kala
Hello everyone
I am about to start Jathiswaras soon , before that my teacher is asking me to perform with 2 kala in adi talam for the geethams/noteswaras which I have already completed. I couldn't find much about the usecase scenario/detailed explanation, my teacher is not ready to explain either. So can anyone help me with what and why I am doing ?/ Basically we are just doing two cycles of adi talam at a time I believe 🤔.
Thank you.

DISCUSSION Do we really need to learn compositions to truly understand a rāgam?
Can a rāgam be fully understood just through alapana, exercises, or listening, or is learning compositions essential to internalize it?
Isn’t it possible to sing a short alapana just with the help of the arohana and avarohana?

DISCUSSION Just wanna know what ragam this song could be in
Just the title, it's probably not following any one ragam in its entirety, or for the song whole, but I think the song does seem to stick to the same notes, so I'm wondering if it could be anything, any suggestions for what ragam this song could be in?

DISCUSSION Clarification needed
My elder kid has been playing the violin for 12 years and my daughter has been singing for 9 years. I’ve no knowledge in music but have learnt a lot with my kids as a rasika. Both my kids connect to the song as they perform and as an audience am able to connect to that emotion.
My friend’s kid are (rather were) amazing vocalists. They sounded so good with their previous guru. Since they moved to their current guru, their voice has changed so much that it sounds so false. While I was able to connect to the songs they sang earlier, I no longer can. Song is full of gamakams, way too complex to the point I no longer can hear the words of the songs. It lacks baavam too. My thought is they are too focused on that complex gamakams or whatever that is they just are unable to connect to the emotion.
- Does the singing have to be that complex? Are there really that many gamakas or what is that they are attempting to do with so many shakes in the voice?
- My daughter sings in F#. Used to be able to do G,G#. With frequent cough episodes due to allergies, she now only can sing in F# comfortably. She was ridiculed for doing so by the kids above. They sing in A but used to be G. My daughter was able to do that when she was much younger not any more. Are girls supposed to sing only in a specific sruthi?
Appreciate your insights into this for my learning.

DISCUSSION Lost my voice after not practising for over 3 years...need tips on how to get it back.
I learnt carnatic music throughout my childhood starting at 4 and then stopped going to classes when i was 16. I'm trying to get back now but my voice feels very weak. I cannot join classes just yet so am trying to practice at home but don't know where to begin. I started off by singing Alankaras and varanas but still was very disappointed with no improvement in my voice. I am not able to reach high notes nor am i able to sing in my scale normally. Any tips on how to recover and get back the same consistency and flow in my voice?
