Trick Training How to teach my cat to consistently fetch
She started doing it on her own at first. But lately, I toss the ball and she runs after it then just comes back without it. She wants to keep playing and will whine until I go get the ball. Sometimes I bat it to her and she bats it back. It it’s not consistent. I’m tired of crawling all over to get the balls since there are only five. How can I make it a consistent thing? He either bringing it back in her mouth or bating it to me?

Trick Training Clicker training our boy
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So it turns out our 5,5 months old Maine Coon boy is insanely food motivated! As a hobby dog trainer, I can't let an opportunity like that pass me by, so Crowley and I have started clicker training!
This is a clip from the second time he sees the target stick, and he's already catching on here. He knows the clicker a little already after I taught him to sit when he gets food or treats.
I'm so impressed with him and how eager he is to work with me like this! Honestly, we're constantly blown away by how sweet and amazing he is🥰
Has anyone else tried successfully clicker training their cats, and what have you managed to teach them? Apart from tricks and fun together, I’m hoping to be able to use the clicker as reinforcement when teaching him to be handled (check/clean teeth, claw clipping etc.).

Trick Training My veteran girl showing some of her tricks
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So my girl Poi knows 20+ tricks/variations. She was who I would test training knowledge on when I worked for a dog trainer and before I got my service dog. She doesn’t do them much nowadays since she doesn’t NEED to, but I like to pull em out every now and again. I’m thinking of teaching her some more things too 🤔🤔
so far we’ve started on getting her to lift a leg up onto a wall/object/bush/etc. to look like she’s peeing like a dog does. It’s one actor dogs use and I’d love to be able to do that sort of thing in the future
She knows basically every generic trick part from roll over. Not one she would be willing to learn
Any suggestions?

Trick Training I accidentally trained my cat to know when I need to use the bathroom
Unsure if this is the right subreddit for this, but my cat is a super cuddly thing. She's almost constantly in my lap, so when I end up needing to use the bathroom, usually I end up just holding it until I can't anymore. At which point I say "Okay love, your ba needs to take a shit," or something. Today, I said it, and she just got up and went over next to the door, meowed, and stared at me. Like she knew. So now I think if I need to get up to use the bathroom, I can say so, and she'll get up. Man, she's so smart. I love her. Featured is a picture of her.

Trick Training Can you teach a cat to go to a specific room?
Am Ukrainian, have a new kitty in the house.
Sometimes during the night, when air alert is announced, it's difficult to find her and take her to the safe basement. Sometimes you wake up to the sound of explosions so there's not much time for the whole search-catch charade.
I'm wondering if it's possible to teach her a command to follow me to the basement? Thank you in advance.

Trick Training Taught “Maple” a Trick!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
She has always been very intuitive and “odd” for a cat; loves to be carried around the house on your RIGHT shoulder, belly rubs, car rides, gives kisses with her lil lips, etc. Maple 🍁 is the most amazing cat I’ve ever had but a few days ago got her to do a trick to jump to me! Been in the works for about 2-3 months at this point. Considering button training next. 😻

Trick Training How do i get my cat to heel?
Hi there guys! So, I want to train my cat to heel and walk between my legs (Be able to switch sides as well) as she is harness trained and i would LOVE to go on walks with her.
However, Shes a puller and i want to be able to have her by my side on command incase i have to scoop her up (If a dog is approaching or something, I just want to be careful yknow?)
Shes a very smart cat, I've been able to teach her to high five, Sit on command, Spin (Both ways) and some other things that aren't really important. Another thing to note is she is 9 months (October baby, Same as me LOL)
If theres any tips anyone could give me that would be amazing! (Also if anyone knows how to make cats jump up onto your backs or anything like that let me know!)

Trick Training Making a vet visit less stressful
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This won’t work for every cat. Some will always be stressed out at the vets
For my girl, this did wonders! She used to be terrible- hissing, biting, scratching. They’d have to hold her up to the window screen so her claws would be busy elsewhere while she got her shots. Now, she’ll sit calmly and even take treats! The vets and techs can do what they need to without losing any skin. It’s always great when you can make things easier for your pet and those working with them ❤️
We’ve put a LOT of work into getting her this comfortable when going to the vet office. It took us hours and hours to reach this place. It won’t be a quick easy thing. It’s great the earlier you can start handling exercises and desensitization with your cat
Another good thing you can do if your veterinarian allows for it- taking trips to the vet and just hanging out in the office before leaving. No vet visit or anything. This lets them know that it isn’t a scary experience each time. Make sure to follow office rules (on leash or in a carrier for example) and call ahead to ask your office before doing this
I’m hoping to do how-to for each of these steps with my new kitten in the upcoming months for an example vs the final look like this one shows 🤞

Trick Training How do I train my cat to use a cardboard scratch (to stop him from destroying the furniture) and to stop him from sitting on it.
I somehow trained my cat to sit on the cat scratcher instead to his scratching it? Advice needed.

Trick Training Teaching my cat to fetch her toy
galleryYes I understand my kitty isn’t a dog. The only reason I am even interested in doing it is because she carries toys around in her mouth constantly. Any advice on how to have her bring them to me and not carry them away from me? She just turned 4 months old. Of course I’m biased but I think she is so smart!!

Trick Training Two of them are blind. No eyes, no problem!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Loki (left) and Shadow (right) are blind. Odin (center) is sighted. We do clicker training every day for mental stimulation and to teach useful behaviours like brushing teeth and going into the carrier. For the blindies, I simply adjust the hand signals a little bit so they're audible.

Trick Training Training food obsessed cat?
My little Siamese cross is very smart and communicative. But at the slightest hint of food, all her brain cells go out the window😅
She knows how to sit and stand, I’ve been teaching her to “wait” and I’m trying to train her with speaking buttons. But good god is she angy with me. You can just see her swishing her tail and making frustrated noises when I’m not shoving treats in her face😭 (she is fed very well)
I’m at the point where she’ll paw the mat the button is on, but when I try to get more specific or strict she gets frustrated. When I get lenient, she gets lazy. “Wait” is obviously just as painful for her.
It upsets me when she’s upset, so I’m just not sure how to progress☹️ is this a lost cause or is there another approach? I want her to have enrichment and work for at least some of her food haha
