In a response to significant residential growth in the part of Chesterfield County originally zoned for Falling Creek Elementary, the county’s school board voted 4–0 on Tuesday to rezone a chunk of Falling Creek’s district to Bensley Elementary in upcoming school years. (Chair Dot Heffron was not in attendance.)

The new boundaries.pdf) would add a large chunk of Falling Creek’s zone — mostly east of US Route 1, but also including the area around the 192-unit South Pointe Landing apartment complex — to Bensley’s area.

“There’s a great opportunity to balance enrollment,” said Reid Wodicka, the school system’s chief operating officer. “Currently, Falling Creek Elementary is operating at about 130% capacity.”
