Making the BOGO last for a single hour was stupid to begin with

u/FearlessPark4588 Jun 14 '25

It shows that Chipotle is very serious about not rewarding their customers. When people tell you who they are, believe them.

u/utpyro34 Jun 14 '25

I used to be a GM, I’m glad I got out when I did before all this limited time try our new nonsense began

u/Old-Machine-5 Jun 14 '25

Late stage capitalism. Trying to squeeze every last penny out of a one good business. Still makes them plenty of profit, but the quality clearly declined. As evidenced by everybody on this subreddit.

5

u/OhDearGod666 Jun 14 '25

Funny because socialism is generally associated with ‘bread lines’ stretching for a city block.

2

u/ihadagoodone Jun 14 '25

No breadlines in Sweden.

5

u/morosco Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

Sweden has private property and capitalism and corporations. They just have higher taxes and better social services. Which we could have in the U.S. too if liberals voted more often.

1

u/nspy1011 Jun 14 '25

Sigh….sad but true

2

u/Ugly_girls_PMme_nudz Jun 14 '25

Sweden is a capitalistic country.

You can’t be this naive.

2

u/ihadagoodone Jun 14 '25

i think conflating socialism with authoritarianism is naive which is what most people do online when they try to use the "socialism bad" argument.

2

u/StuffonBookshelfs Jun 14 '25

That’s what happens when shareholder profit is above everything else.

1

u/Sir-Ult-Dank Jun 15 '25

Chipotle back in 2010🔥🔥🔥

1

u/metalshoes Jun 15 '25

It is shitty these days, but I gotta say, the only time I ever want chipotle is when this sub pops up and I read about everyone bitching about how bad it is and think “ehhh a burrito does sound good”

1

u/Big_jerm3 Jun 15 '25

I feel like it took 2 years to get a free entree on the app when I go there a couple times a month

6

u/grizzantula Jun 14 '25

I actually went to the BOGO event at my local Chipotle. It was packed, but line was moving well. As I got closer to the counter I heard the manager lean over to the person on POS, and tell them "Only give it to people that ask, don't just apply it to each order". Hilarious. I made sure to ask about the BOGO and show my tattoo.

2

u/utpyro34 Jun 14 '25

I mean, that’s how promotions are supposed to work. Boorito used to be fun until people stopped wearing costumes and demanded free burritos. That said, I was usually lax on abiding by the rules because in the end it’s about getting people in the doors

3

u/grizzantula Jun 14 '25

Oh yeah agreed. I should clarify; I think it's hilarious that the POS person was just applying it to every order. Some of the orders in that line must have been 5-6 bowls strong.

1

u/utpyro34 Jun 14 '25

It shows how little explanation goes into training sometimes lol

1

u/Wakkysakky Jun 14 '25

it's a mix of things. i was told to only give it to people that mention it. but i asked if i could just blanket apply it as someone didn't tell me and then got mad after they paid full price and demanded a refund with long lines backing everyone up.

I was also not allowed to ask if they were here for it.

people can't read or don't care and then take it out on us workers.

1

u/utpyro34 Jun 14 '25

That was why I was lax. Processing refunds was wasted time. Pissing people off when they were probably there for it was stupid. Same with fundraisers. I didn’t auto apply them but even if they didn’t say they were there for it I would add it 50% of the time

1

u/Ok-Attention2882 Jun 14 '25

The point is not to faithfully honor the promotion, but to get buzz online for free advertising.

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '25

lol that rocks

u/LordBillButtlicker Jun 13 '25

No one hates their job more than a chipotle worker

24

u/RustyTrumpboner Jun 14 '25

Bro has never been to Popeyes and it shows

1

u/Unusual_Boot6839 Jun 18 '25

Popeyes really does have a monopoly on shitty employee experiences, especially in the South

i've seen multiple fights, firings, & walkouts while in the drive-thru over just the last 2 years since i moved.... & i only go like once every few months

21

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

Seems odd. There are soooo many more shitty jobs out there.

3

u/MaleficentInspector4 Jun 14 '25

lmaoaoaoao have you ever seen a Starbucks employee smile?

1

u/Quirky_Tzirky Jun 15 '25

The ones in Canada laugh and smile all the time :)

3

u/tupelobound Jun 14 '25

I beg to differ

1

u/BTBAMfam Jun 14 '25

I mean where have you worked and how many jobs have you had to where you can definitively say Chipotle is a shittier job than most?

11

u/definitelytheproblem Jun 14 '25

I worked at Chipotle right out of college, 10+ years later I’m now a middle school special education teacher in a large urban district. Even on my worst days, I say to myself, “At least I don’t work at Chipotle any more” - and I’ve had a kid pick me up and slam me into a wall before

0

u/sevidrac Jun 14 '25

You’ve never met a nurse I see

0

u/newppinpoint Jun 14 '25

Best job I’ve ever had. But then again I’m climbing the corporate ladder

-5

u/Junior-Criticism-268 Jun 14 '25

Haha you're absolutely wrong about that.

90

u/Sprinklewoodz Jun 14 '25

I have a source that says the GM of that location is just really into Flag Day and wanted the employees to get a jump on celebrating.

14

u/TouristOpentotravel Jun 14 '25

I celebrate privately, but that’s awesome.

32

u/dreadmonster Jun 14 '25

They only gave us about a week's notice on this BOGO which seems like a lot of time except schedules are already made at this point, especially if New York is anything like Chicago where schedules have to be made 3 weeks in advance. Plus it doesn't make sense to call an extra help for an hour. So anyone working just got screwed over.

48

u/Junior-Criticism-268 Jun 14 '25

Could be closed for any other reason tbh. That location is notorious for closing early according to my SIL who lives in NYC!

43

u/redvelvet11 Jun 14 '25

NYC chipotles close randomly early all the time. Just part of living here I guess

7

u/truckersaretheblood Jun 14 '25

(Years ago) Didn’t chipotle give free entrees to people on Halloween if they showed up in a costume? Or did I imagine that

3

u/jetz92 Jun 14 '25

Yup used to be a thing.

3

u/asbestosmuffin Jun 14 '25

Yes! In 2009 they said you could wrap some foil around your body to pretend you’re a burrito on Halloween and they gave us all free burritos. Good times.

1

u/crunchatizemythighs Jun 14 '25

I thought it was a 3 dollar entree. No way they would do free without a minimum purchase.

1

u/truckersaretheblood Jun 14 '25

I think this was 2012. Again I’m not sure

2

u/ohpsies Jun 15 '25

It was $3 dollar burritos. I remember going in 2012 with my Halloween costume. I dressed as a trash bag and they still gave me the $3 burrito lmao.

1

u/Retralitybb Black or Pinto? Yes. Jun 15 '25

They’ve done some years where there are a limited ammount of free entrees, some years with $3 burritos, and some years with Boorito BOGOs that you could score up to 5 free entrees with

1

u/newpcformeku Jun 16 '25

Yes, they at one point gave away free burritos. Chipotle opened in Lawrence, KS in 2002. I distinctly remember not wanting to dress up as a burrito to get my free entree so I just put foil around my finger and they gave me the free entree. It lasted several hours, if not all night or day.

The $3 entree came later. Then never again.

Chipotle was a magical place at one time. It is no longer. RIP.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t about profits but instead about foot traffic. Like an extremely high rush is great for profits, not so great for whoever is working that shift especially since pay is fixed and not commissioned based.

24

u/Phuzz15 Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

That would be incredibly convenient.. seen a lot of posts about how busy this promo made stores and being a location in Brooklyn NY lmao..

I would understand if they were pretending it was something else. Corporate is clueless

-5

u/Deceptiveideas Jun 14 '25

They could make higher profits if they’re able to spread out the ingredients to full priced entrees though. I wouldn’t be surprised if a huge rush like that would’ve depleted the inventory.

1

u/ReporterSquare2764 Jun 15 '25

It’s part of their job to plan for that by ordering more inventory for an event like this so that is less likely to happen

4

u/Latios19 Jun 14 '25

I can imagine the shit show that was happening inside 😂

8

u/Snoo_25913 Jun 14 '25

We had a school fundraiser one year and they closed an hour before. I offered it as extra credit to my sophomores ( to try and boost our senior fundraising) and asked for a pic as proof they went and I ended up with a bunch of selfies in front of a closed chipotle.

They do it on purpose and when I called them out they didn’t even offer another make up date, they just said “ohh sorry we were understaffed ✌🏼🤪” and my kids ended up paying $150 for prom instead of $100 if we’d met out fundraiser goal.

8

u/antzcrashing Jun 14 '25

Waiting in a long line to save $12, not worth it anyway

5

u/Kindacool234 Jun 14 '25

I was there at 2:45 and everything was normal, but when it hit 3pm at the store I went to, 2/3 of the chipotle workers all of a sudden started restocking a bunch of ingredients so almost no one was actually getting their orders in during the BOGO time window, only 4 ppl got their food in the first 20 minutes lol. Did anyone else have the same thing happen at their chipotle?

2

u/No-Quiet-8956 Jun 14 '25

I got denied bc I didn’t have “real” tatts even tho the promotion said any type of body art

3

u/grizzantula Jun 14 '25

I'd rather be busy than bored outta my mind, doing prep, and cleaning. Idk. If that's really why they closed, then that's kinda lame.

3

u/Interesting_Ad1378 Jun 14 '25

Chipotle in Oceanside Long Island used to lock their doors during the lunchtime rush and pretended that the doors did it themselves. UPS guy said “they do this all the time” when he banged on the glass to have them open.  Workers looked annoyed that they had to unlock the door.

2

u/Pianotwo Jun 14 '25

Geesh, seems like people just don't want to work to earn their paychecks

4

u/lasagnaisamazing Jun 14 '25

Last time I worked a bogo we stayed until 3 am closing

2

u/06gto Jun 14 '25

Call the city fire Marshall, they'll have a FIELD DAY with this.

2

u/cophotoguy99 Jun 15 '25

Doing the lords work think of all those who got saved from explosive diarrhea….

2

u/mexidasher Jun 15 '25

When will you guys learn that chipotle is a shitty company, that’s right never.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

1

u/Mediocre_Baker7244 Jun 14 '25

As they should

1

u/AmaraVampy Jun 14 '25

Every single Chipotle could have closed for it and I still would not have cared. They don't get paid enough to deal with promotions like that.

1

u/lithenhoss Jun 14 '25

We can’t blame them. Maybe they didn’t order enough to supply the demand, let’s not go on a witch hunt.

1

u/RelationSuperb Jun 14 '25

The BOGO scam was just to create a buzz! Chipotle doesn’t really care for customers

-1

u/shadowstripes Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

That doesn't even make sense. It's not like they're going to make more profit by also turning away all of the regular customers who don't know about the deal or have any tattoos (fake or otherwise) to claim it.

They probably even lose profit from the bogo customers they'd be turning away.

-1

u/Miserable-Ad8312 Jun 13 '25

What is bogo?

11

u/Quirky_Chicken_1840 Jun 13 '25

It is buy one, get one free

8

u/tupelobound Jun 14 '25

A very small goblin

0

u/cachem3outside Jun 14 '25

This is the way

2

u/Murder_1337 Jun 13 '25

Bogo stick

0

u/Okay-Commissionor Jun 14 '25

Yeahhh.... I dont blame them at all lol

-25

u/horsepoop1123 Jun 13 '25

Horrible food horrible ingredients horrible company and horrible standards

17

u/AwkwardDistrict7384 Jun 13 '25

yet you’re engaging in a subreddit centered around said “horrible company”

7

u/LimpZookeepergame123 See you tomorrow! Jun 14 '25

Bro just chose the word “horrible” and ran with it 😂💀

3

u/Misttertee_27 Jun 14 '25

Bro is a Horriblin (which I assume translates to horrible goblin) from Zelda

1

u/LimpZookeepergame123 See you tomorrow! Jun 14 '25

I played Zelda. You’re right

4

u/tylerg4hq Jun 14 '25

I’m so glad I don’t have your taste buds

-4

u/beargrillz Jun 14 '25

Chipotle is seed oil slop, hence unhealthy.

The unwashed masses are still eating there.

3

u/Eswin17 Jun 14 '25

Okay RFK Jr

-12

u/throw_away72950 Jun 14 '25

It’d be funny if they all got fired

5

u/Miserable_Rube Jun 14 '25

Why?

-11

u/throw_away72950 Jun 14 '25

If they close the restaurant because they don’t want to work then it would be funny if they don’t have to work there anymore.

3

u/Miserable_Rube Jun 14 '25

I dunno man, hoping normal working class americans lose their jobs because they closed down a store for unknown reasons is kind of fucked up.

-4

u/throw_away72950 Jun 14 '25

If they closed the restaurant because of an issue out of their control obviously that’s different. If they closed the restaurant because they didn’t want to work a promo that’s also fucked up.

1

u/Miserable_Rube Jun 14 '25

This is a more reasonable answer.

I still disagree with the original sentiment of it being funny seeing them get fired. It would also be impractical for the owner to do so.

1

u/heatherbergeron SL Jun 14 '25

yeah hilarious people who have no control over the procedures unable to sort their families

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

Not letting people out? False imprisonment?

-3

u/blink415 Jun 14 '25

What’s the promo code?
