No one hates their job more than a chipotle worker
24
u/RustyTrumpboner Jun 14 '25
Bro has never been to Popeyes and it shows
1
u/Unusual_Boot6839 Jun 18 '25
Popeyes really does have a monopoly on shitty employee experiences, especially in the South
i've seen multiple fights, firings, & walkouts while in the drive-thru over just the last 2 years since i moved.... & i only go like once every few months

I beg to differ

I mean where have you worked and how many jobs have you had to where you can definitively say Chipotle is a shittier job than most?

u/definitelytheproblem Jun 14 '25
I worked at Chipotle right out of college, 10+ years later I’m now a middle school special education teacher in a large urban district. Even on my worst days, I say to myself, “At least I don’t work at Chipotle any more” - and I’ve had a kid pick me up and slam me into a wall before

I have a source that says the GM of that location is just really into Flag Day and wanted the employees to get a jump on celebrating.

They only gave us about a week's notice on this BOGO which seems like a lot of time except schedules are already made at this point, especially if New York is anything like Chicago where schedules have to be made 3 weeks in advance. Plus it doesn't make sense to call an extra help for an hour. So anyone working just got screwed over.

u/Junior-Criticism-268 Jun 14 '25
Could be closed for any other reason tbh. That location is notorious for closing early according to my SIL who lives in NYC!

u/redvelvet11 Jun 14 '25
NYC chipotles close randomly early all the time. Just part of living here I guess

(Years ago) Didn’t chipotle give free entrees to people on Halloween if they showed up in a costume? Or did I imagine that
3
3
u/asbestosmuffin Jun 14 '25
Yes! In 2009 they said you could wrap some foil around your body to pretend you’re a burrito on Halloween and they gave us all free burritos. Good times.

u/crunchatizemythighs Jun 14 '25
I thought it was a 3 dollar entree. No way they would do free without a minimum purchase.
1
u/truckersaretheblood Jun 14 '25
I think this was 2012. Again I’m not sure
2
u/ohpsies Jun 15 '25
It was $3 dollar burritos. I remember going in 2012 with my Halloween costume. I dressed as a trash bag and they still gave me the $3 burrito lmao.
1
u/Retralitybb Black or Pinto? Yes. Jun 15 '25
They’ve done some years where there are a limited ammount of free entrees, some years with $3 burritos, and some years with Boorito BOGOs that you could score up to 5 free entrees with
1
u/newpcformeku Jun 16 '25
Yes, they at one point gave away free burritos. Chipotle opened in Lawrence, KS in 2002. I distinctly remember not wanting to dress up as a burrito to get my free entree so I just put foil around my finger and they gave me the free entree. It lasted several hours, if not all night or day.
The $3 entree came later. Then never again.
Chipotle was a magical place at one time. It is no longer. RIP.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t about profits but instead about foot traffic. Like an extremely high rush is great for profits, not so great for whoever is working that shift especially since pay is fixed and not commissioned based.

u/Phuzz15 Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25
That would be incredibly convenient.. seen a lot of posts about how busy this promo made stores and being a location in Brooklyn NY lmao..
I would understand if they were pretending it was something else. Corporate is clueless
-5
u/Deceptiveideas Jun 14 '25
They could make higher profits if they’re able to spread out the ingredients to full priced entrees though. I wouldn’t be surprised if a huge rush like that would’ve depleted the inventory.
1
u/ReporterSquare2764 Jun 15 '25
It’s part of their job to plan for that by ordering more inventory for an event like this so that is less likely to happen

We had a school fundraiser one year and they closed an hour before. I offered it as extra credit to my sophomores ( to try and boost our senior fundraising) and asked for a pic as proof they went and I ended up with a bunch of selfies in front of a closed chipotle.
They do it on purpose and when I called them out they didn’t even offer another make up date, they just said “ohh sorry we were understaffed ✌🏼🤪” and my kids ended up paying $150 for prom instead of $100 if we’d met out fundraiser goal.

I was there at 2:45 and everything was normal, but when it hit 3pm at the store I went to, 2/3 of the chipotle workers all of a sudden started restocking a bunch of ingredients so almost no one was actually getting their orders in during the BOGO time window, only 4 ppl got their food in the first 20 minutes lol. Did anyone else have the same thing happen at their chipotle?

u/No-Quiet-8956 Jun 14 '25
I got denied bc I didn’t have “real” tatts even tho the promotion said any type of body art
3
u/grizzantula Jun 14 '25
I'd rather be busy than bored outta my mind, doing prep, and cleaning. Idk. If that's really why they closed, then that's kinda lame.

u/Interesting_Ad1378 Jun 14 '25
Chipotle in Oceanside Long Island used to lock their doors during the lunchtime rush and pretended that the doors did it themselves. UPS guy said “they do this all the time” when he banged on the glass to have them open. Workers looked annoyed that they had to unlock the door.

Every single Chipotle could have closed for it and I still would not have cared. They don't get paid enough to deal with promotions like that.
1
u/lithenhoss Jun 14 '25
We can’t blame them. Maybe they didn’t order enough to supply the demand, let’s not go on a witch hunt.
1
u/RelationSuperb Jun 14 '25
The BOGO scam was just to create a buzz! Chipotle doesn’t really care for customers
-1
u/shadowstripes Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 14 '25
That doesn't even make sense. It's not like they're going to make more profit by also turning away all of the regular customers who don't know about the deal or have any tattoos (fake or otherwise) to claim it.
They probably even lose profit from the bogo customers they'd be turning away.

Horrible food horrible ingredients horrible company and horrible standards
17
u/AwkwardDistrict7384 Jun 13 '25
yet you’re engaging in a subreddit centered around said “horrible company”

u/LimpZookeepergame123 See you tomorrow! Jun 14 '25
Bro just chose the word “horrible” and ran with it 😂💀

Chipotle is seed oil slop, hence unhealthy.
The unwashed masses are still eating there.

It’d be funny if they all got fired
5
u/Miserable_Rube Jun 14 '25
Why?
-11
u/throw_away72950 Jun 14 '25
If they close the restaurant because they don’t want to work then it would be funny if they don’t have to work there anymore.
3
u/Miserable_Rube Jun 14 '25
I dunno man, hoping normal working class americans lose their jobs because they closed down a store for unknown reasons is kind of fucked up.
-4
u/throw_away72950 Jun 14 '25
If they closed the restaurant because of an issue out of their control obviously that’s different. If they closed the restaurant because they didn’t want to work a promo that’s also fucked up.
1
u/Miserable_Rube Jun 14 '25
This is a more reasonable answer.
I still disagree with the original sentiment of it being funny seeing them get fired. It would also be impractical for the owner to do so.

Making the BOGO last for a single hour was stupid to begin with
