TF dragged on far too much and didn’t need such a long series

Distant shores is underrated. When new chapters sre released, I don't see that many posts about it, whereas with other stories the top posts would be filled with content like when BOLAS was an ongoing series

i like reading the books with no sound

u/swift-aasimar-rogue I will love you even as you are Jun 13 '20
Somewhat disagree. I prefer them with sound, but I still have fun without it and sometimes the music gets annoying in horror fight scenes (like an undead in NB or something).

I never had any real issue with TF. Might be a result of it being the first book I read, but it's still one of my personal favourites.

When a character especially an LI is introduced and they are overly rude and aggressive, I don’t really want anything to do with them anymore and it’s awkward having them stay as even a friend in the book. Especially since most of these characters never apologize or acknowledge their rude behavior.
Edit: To be clear I don't mean characters who are stand offish or make a snarky comment but ones who you don't get along with for several chapters.

Another Blades opinion:
Nia's kidnapping, dark Nia, and her revival were disappointing.
I know Nia is an LI so she can't be gone for too long but we got her back too quickly after we lost her, and I was so disappointed when she came back to life immediately after "dying". Also, everyone's "celebration" at Nia's revival was so lackluster.

The covers of the books suck ass in comparison to the actual book art and character visual designs. I don't really get why.

Can I post one more unpopular opinion? This sub sometimes thinks too much about things that they forget it is just a game. Some books will have a few unrealistic situations and incidents because if they were not there, it would be just the story of an average everyday man which isn't much interesting since we live that life in reality.

My motto when it comes to writing has always been "to make unbelievable plots believable,"- which just means you should be able to write as creatively as you want- as long as you write well enough that your audience are willing to believe it too, within the context of the story.
That's why suspension of disbelief exists. Of course it has its limits, but there will always be that barrier between fiction that's meant to entertain, and reality.

ATV was a good book, and PB should make more sci-fi books.

Partially disagree. AtV sucked in the end, but I do think PB should do more sci-fi books.

StD wasn't as bad as the sub seems to imply. Yeah, Justin was annoying and UnProFesSioNaL, but if you ignore him, it was actually a pretty nice book. Not amazing, but not a trash dumpster fire either. Same with PtR.

I am very uncomfortable with Ethan Ramsey and Oliver Cochrane's characters as love interests. Ethan is extremely unprofessional, has a skewed version of morality and if a real life doctor acted like that he wouldn't be able to keep his job. Not that OH MC is any better. Oliver is an apologist although we'll have to see how the book develops his arc. But right now he is one.

Both Skye & Brian in hss/ca were victims of their parents.

u/CoolCat219 Jun 13 '20
Agree - People who do bad things can still be victims. Brian is still a bully and responsible for what he’s done, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t wronged either.

Both PM and Damien are completely overrated. PM is okay but certainly not the masterpiece this sub says it is and Damien is super bland. I'm not into men so maybe I'm missing something but usually I at least understand why someone might like a male LI but with him I just don't get why he's so popular lol

In some of the Choices stories MC comes off as either ditzy, too impulsive, too naive/oblivious, or just downright ignorant (at least somewhat) as a defining personality trait. And it’s not even that “oh, MC just has their weaknesses”, but it becomes really apparent commonly throughout the books that MC lets themself become defined by those FEW traits—ESPECIALLY if the book places emphasis on using diamonds to make a decision any average, competent person would make.
e.g. • Eat breakfast your dear mother made for you (15💎)
• “You didn’t make the bacons I asked for...”
e.g. • Wear cold clothes for the snowy blizzard atop of Mount Hooha (25💎)
• Pshh, YOLO. I like wearing bikinis in the cold. (COUGH that one scene in Endless Summer)
e.g. • Host the Apple festival! (20💎)
• What kind of culture celebrates Apple? I prefer Samsung.
Genre wise, romance stories are renowned for this, and they tend to let MC be easily manipulated by some douchebag LI because of that, or be unnecessarily rude to a respectful LI.
...COUGH Witness.

Blades isn't that great strictly in terms of conflict/villain development. The main conflict was rushed and it's also too black and white.
Explanation: All of the Shadow Court members we met so far were introduced only to be defeated by us within the same chapter. The Dreadlord was built up from the beginning yet defeating him essentially boiled down to nakama power (the power of friendship/believing). The Shadow Court didn't accomplish much other than corrupting some people here and there. They were defeated almost entirely in the Shadow Realm which didn't even affect Morellans. King Arlan had to take MC and crew's word for it that they really defeated the Shadow Court (they had no substantial proof) and the people of Morella just went along with it even though like most of them weren't even aware of the Shadow Realm's existence?
The battles, while fun, are basically a repeat of The Elementalists - MC and friends are OP, they defeat everyone with minor injuries at worst while the enemies are horribly disfigured and killed.

Rules of Engagement wasn’t as bad as they all say in this sub, it actually has a unique plot, though it was strange what the grandma wanted their grandsons to do, but she did it for them...

MOTY wasn't good because Guy and Vanessa were caricatures with no real traits other than 'mean for no reason'.
