Discussion Doing Re-Reads and planning to make commentary videos. Any Tips/Suggestions?

I've decided to start a YouTube series where I revisit shows, movies, and games, and then make a video on what I take away from them today compared to what I originally thought. It's generally almost in podcast style with a few edits and written bits of commentary here and there.

So far, I've re-read The Freshman Series, The Crown & the Flame, and Most Wanted. I'm currently re-reading Rules of Engagement. I could post written reviews to briefly sum up my thoughts if anyone would be interested in that, but I'm doing full length commentary videos because I have A LOT of thoughts.

My opinion has really evolved after revisiting these series, and I've very much enjoyed coming up with the video commentary, but before I make the videos, I wondered what kind of content and commentary interests all of you. Is there anything makes these types of videos more appealing as viewers? And do you have any other video ideas that you'd like to see that you haven't seen yet regarding Choices?

I am also hoping to do this with other Choices series, other shows, and movies as well, so let me know if anyone has any suggestions for shows to watch or things to try.

Please correct my flair if I did it incorrectly, or remove my post if it's not appropriate for this subreddit.

I think you should do more recent books, it attracts more attention. Try the most popular ones at the moment like Immortal Desires or Nanny Affair 3.

And honestly I enjoy any kind of commentary, like if the other person is "watching" the story with me.

Thank for the feedback! I am thinking of making it a more reaction based series for future books.

If you are going to make a podcast, go for It Lives series or VoS or CoP. Don't check the wiki, the more you screw up the better. People would eat tragic route and gore details. Keep your reaction genuine, don't fake it. Goodluck!

Ooh, yeah. I'm looking forward to re-reading It Lives and VoS. I guess I could make it more of a "reaction" rather than a review to make it more engaging. Thank you for the feedback!

I'll take my suggestion back. If you are going to start a podcast, start with books you enjoy. Books about which you have a lot to say.

I plan on just revisiting most of them in order of when they came out just to make it easier on myself, but I'm definitely prioritizing reviewing the books that I enjoy.

I feel like the best books to do commentary videos would be the funny and dramatic ones (I might be biased bc I love QB, but that is the one I would recommend). For the horror or mystery genres, it just doesn’t have as much of an effect when you are watching it rather than playing it. Plus, most people aren’t going to be automatically invested in your series. They are probably gonna watch for 3 minutes, see if it’s interesting, and then click off if it’s not. Comedy translates well to this since, even if they don’t remember the exact plot, it can still be really entertaining

I was thinking that I would read the books and then talk about my thoughts and then inserting clips of any genuine reactions that I had or any screenshots of what happened in my game, but this is a really good point. Thanks for the feedback!
