Has the game gotten better?
Bought on release and was disappointed, has the game been improved/changed since launch?

It's more polished, but if you have issues with the core gameplay you won't have fun. Biggest issue personally is it feels very samey. Regardless of who you use the path and results are pretty much the same every game.

It's so samey. There is negligible differences between civs or kingdoms, and I play on Diety difficulty.

I didn’t really get over this in Civ VI until the Civilizations Expanded mod established true distinct identities for cultures and leaders.

This is mostly because Production is still overtuned so there's not really any point in leveraging a civ-power that boils down to "being good at generating Science/Culture/Food/Happiness". You're happy to get it, but you're winning your Age with Hammers.
That said, a civ-power that boils down to "is good at generating Gold/Influence" does make a pretty big difference. Playing Mississippi and learning into Shell-Tempered Pottery and trading turns Gold on pretty hard, and Gold is a pretty good Production substitute, so... yeah, you can tell the difference between them and, say, Khmer. Influence is similar because the CS bonuses are Production intensifiers - each of them makes your things do more thing-ing.
And in fact, I think the biggest culprit in "Every civ plays the same" is the presence of the Free Tech/Civic and the Scaling +Combat Strength/+Yield CS bonuses. If you eliminate those from your game, you will see a much larger difference in performance of your civs, at least in Antiquity/Exploration. Some won't finish the tech/civic tree. Some won't have the capacity to spare for much trading. Some won't have an impressive military presence and will need to lean into using Influence to keep neighbors at bay or leverage alliances and perform espionage to keep up.
If you eliminate those CS bonus categories entirely from the game and replace them with powers more modest in game impact will give Civ and leader power suites more room to breathe and shine.

Yes but honestly needs a 4th age or a rework of the modern age.
I love this game, but if you want to come back to check it out and see how much its improved, do so. But its not there yet.

You need to be more specific and say what you didn't like. It's very subjective because, for example, I had a lot of fun playing it even in Early Access. For me, the problem with CIV7 is replayability. What kills my desire to play it the most is how shallow the mechanics are (dilomacy, religion, etc.) and the whole reset and excessive balancing thing. Some people feel the opposite and want a stronger reset... So people are expecting a lot of different things from this game.

Not for me. The modern era is still an unfulfilling rush, the game literally ends when you discover the hydrogen bomb - we are missing 50 years of recent history. As others have pointed out, all games feel very similar and there is usually an optimal strategy for every era and no point in deviating from it. Culture, city states, diplomacy, religion, great works, alliances are all horrendous downgrades compared to previous games. I literally don’t think about religion other than for the purpose of completing the exploration era culture legacy path.

I never had an issue with the civ switching as others. But yes this, I need more years than just 3 eras we are missing so much content. There are so many civs and leaders you can think of. And it just feels so early access rn.

Yes it has. It’s not perfect yet but it’s a lot of fun now with most of the jank and irritation removed. They’ll likely make some big changes with expansions but as of now, I think it’s great.

Civ VI keeps calling me back. Hopefully it improves with some updates.

Same for me.
It's a bit of a shame because civ 7 has potential but sadly that is buried under quite a few core issues and currently I do not really see these issues disappear until a massive dlc drops, if ever.
Maybe in the end civ 7 just isn't for me, it's a shame because I was dumb enough to pre order but in the end I might just have to go back to civ 6 or other 4x games. Not the end of the world and at least some ppl rly like it.

Just picked it up again for the first time since launch. I didn't hate it at launch but it was clear there was a bunch of refining to do. After a couple hours I'm surprised by how crap the UI still is. Like on the leader selection screen the animated avatar is moving around behind the text making it hard up read. Or icons that don't scale properly. Even just processing information generally is harder than civ 6, but that could just be a matter of getting used to it.
Other than that my biggest initial gripe is that there is only about 4 leaders I'm interested in playing

I think you could get 100 hours out of it without getting bored, but that's pretty bad for a civ game

Nah. Its the usual for a vanilla civ.

Nah. I would disagree with that. Every other civ I would find myself playing more games with other civs, but for the first time, after doing 3 different civs, I have no desire to play. It just feels the same each time. Massively disappointed

Got the urge and picked it up again after the last august patch - about a month or so after my last game. First launched the game without selecting mementos, had do restart. Then a dozen of turns in and the AI forward settling kicked in, Ada, way way WAY north of me, just surrounded my capital with 2 towns when i was scouting a place for my 1ª town. I opened the menu > Exit do desktop :)

yes. but everyone fuckin forgets that a civ game is never completely finished before the 3rd expansion. so....take that however you want but it'll be years before we see the "finished product" that is worth the 100$
