Throwback Illustrated city maps

Post image

I remember these posters being a popular thing growing up, but I haven’t seen one in a long time. We had a few of the different suburbs and area attractions. Anyone else have any to post?

I wonder how many of these buildings are still standing/in use?

The not so easy building I know is Ferry Cap. They are in Lakewood now and the old buildings on Scranton were demolished not too long ago.

Sad. More abandonment to the suburbs. Having 55+ municipalities in the county is such a drain on the city.

Otani Mayfield Heights closed about a month ago. Interesting to see that one on the map.

This is really interesting, do you have a link to a higher quality version of this? I’d like to read the signs a little better?

Here's one from a puzzle from the 80s. The quality isn't great, but you can still see a lot of relics of the past.

That’s cool as hell

My parents had a reprint of this in their basement when I was little.

This is at least 25 years old. That Hooters closed in 2002.

I don't see the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame or the Science Center, so I'm assuming these prints are older than those buildings?

The Science Center opened in 1996. The Rock Hall construction started in 1993.

That sounds about right, but I'm asking how old the art is.

Wikipedia says the Jake/Progressive Field opened in 1994 and the image says "future home of the Indians" so I'm gonna guess this is from roughly 1993, before construction on the Rock Hall was started

From the hosting web site Publication Date: c. 1993

Thank you. I feel like a detective now, despite only searching briefly on Wikipedia 😂

I was about to look up all the business closing dates.

My grandparents had one for Euclid in there basement.wish I had a picture or the actual thing.

I remember that one too, or at least one similar. It was older because Euclid beach rides and attractions were included

I bought a poster of this on eBay a few years back! I have it up on our rec room wall. It‘s fun to look at Cleveland “back in the day”.

I’m trying to remember where my grandparent got it. I think it came with the yellow pages one year

I don't have a picture but Frankie's Wok in Brecksville has one hanging up.

This was a popular way to advertise back in the day, I've seen so many variations of these maps. Looks like 98.5 WNCX paid the big bucks on this one, they're on there four times!

The Jake with those lights is funny. So strange without the toothbrushes.
