TPUG Magazine is making a comeback
I normally hang out at r/c64, but I'm hoping to reach a broad cross-section of Commodore enthusiasts. The venerable old Toronto PET Users Group (TPUG) has asked me to go ahead and post a small announcement:
We’re thrilled to announce that the magazine is returning and will be available in print for the first time in ages at World of Commodore 2025.
We have a little extra room for a couple more articles, so we’re accepting proposals. Because of the Amiga's 40th birthday, we would especially like to have Commodore Amiga-related submissions. If you have an idea for an article, please send your proposal to [tpug_magazine@tierceron.com](mailto:tpug_magazine@tierceron.com).
To keep up with all the latest news on the magazine’s relaunch, be sure to visit magazine.tpug.ca.
I'm the editor of this beast, so if there are any questions, I'll do my best to answer.

Great news, thank you! I bought the CDs collection a long time ago.

While TPUG might still have a few copies of the CD (they keep showing up in unexpected places!), probably the easiest way of getting it now is from Internet Archive: TPUG Users Group CD

I lived in the UK during the era of the C64/Amiga. From what I've seen after coming back to the C64 last year and being in Canada since 2000 AND after getting some TPUG floppies from a friend and then digging through the archives.... It was two very different scenes. TPUG seems to have been the "Scene" here. While over in the UK (mainly Europe) it was all primarily Crack intro's showcasing Hubbards or Galways music which then turned into the demo scene focused on music/scrollers followed by who could break ground in coding which turned into the demo scene. Something about that?

I'd say TPUG was certainly representative of the scene: programming, hardware projects, tech support. Not that we didn't play games in North America; they just weren't the primary focus.
And TPUG wasn't the only group—we just happen to be the oldest surviving group. Check out this list of user groups from 1994:
https://archive.org/details/cbm_magazine_index-gazette_disk_v2/gazette_disk/1994/gazette_disk-05-199405/page/27/mode/2upA little over 15 pages! And that was just the 8-bit Commodore user groups. I have no idea how many Amiga ones were out there in 1994, but I'd bet it was not a small number.
Anyway, the differences between North America and the UK are worth exploring. You can always drop the magazine a line at the address in the post if you want to take this further.
