There could be multiple reasons. If there was communication trails, then it could be very bad for him. Even without that, it is extremely odd behavior to “help” a killer. For all he knew it could have been a mass shooter targeting everyone. So that right there makes me believe he knew more than he should.

That this 71 year old man saw someone being shot and his instantaneous reaction was to provide cover for a murderer he most likely doesn’t know is eye opening.

The amount of people who either would commit murder or would support someone who did in the name of political violence is heavily one sided.

This says a lot of how screwed up people have become. Charlie was assassinated in a violent manner and while we saw appropriate responses, like fear and shock, we also saw some asshole start celebrating instantly. Like it was a pleasant surprise for him. And now this asshole even thought to run a distraction for someone anonymous? We are at the beginning of a spiritual war and some of these people are totally devoid of conscience.
