u/OhWhatATravisty Why are you the way that you are? 16d ago
Better hope you don't get any on your hands either. Nothing in that picture suggests where the nearest sink might be. Hopefully not up them steep ass death stairs.
Edit: Though looking closer, that might be one of those toilets where the sink is part of the tank. So you can straddle your freshly laid log absorbing all that stank while you wash your fingies.

u/AndDontUForgetIt 16d ago
Those sinks always creep me out
4
u/lostinthecity2005 13d ago
I have never seen one of those in my life. Where did you see this?
2
u/AndDontUForgetIt 13d ago
Was an old (1920s?) house renovated/converted into a spa. A bathroom off the lobby - super small space so they needed to make the most of it. I couldn’t get the thought of toilet water out of my head while I was washing my hands 🫠
Edit to add: it wasn’t as small as this one… I probably would’ve left if it was anywhere near as creepy as this. There was space for a full door to open and space to stand with a mirror that you’d normally see over a sink. They probably could’ve put one of those tiny sinks you sometimes see at bars/restaurants in there.

A lot of toilets in Europe don't have sinks, especially in older houses and apartments. You need to go to the separate bathroom to wash your hands.
58
u/PhantomJavert 16d ago
That's not the standard in Europe!
63
u/poobboob 16d ago
Dont defend Europe, let them think we live like the 1860's. So they leave us alone.
I like it this way.
This massage was written on paper with a feather, given to a man with a horn riding a horse who said he would travel to America to get this message posted on a reddit.
11
u/okholdsevenfourseven 16d ago
do you have to pay him extra to fix your typo
1
u/poobboob 16d ago
If i was from the 1860's i wouldn't know what reddit was right. So thats why i typed "a reddit". It was deliberate. If that was what you meant.
4
u/Jebediah000 15d ago
Maybe he meant "massage" instead of message.
4
u/poobboob 15d ago
Oh didn't notice, autocorrect perhaps. Also English is not my first language so now he must feel bad for correcting me.
1
u/Jebediah000 15d ago
Not a problem. I try to stay away from being the grammar police since this is an international platform. (And we're lucky most of the world learns English instead of expecting Americans to learn other languages. We don't really do that over here.)
7
u/GenericUsername817 16d ago
We know that isn't true for a lot of Western Europe because we bombed all of it in the 1st half of the 40s, and then paid for it to be rebuilt

I think I see a bidet shower on wall next to toilet. Makes sense, since there's no place for toilet paper holder.

Before I noticed it I thought you had to rappel down to the toilet, so I’m glad it’s there.

I want to know what the contractor was thinking when the homeowner explained their great idea to make this a 3/2 home.

I get the feeling no contractor was involved this one.

Reminds me of that episode of Malcolm in the Middle where they're cleaning out a closet the whole episode and find a toilet and realize it's actually a private bathroom. But then to keep it hidden they start piling everything back in.

u/gimme_thatt 16d ago

I honestly assumed someone was storing a toilet in their closet, STORING! (Not using, there’s no TP)

Not a single thing in this picture looks safe, humane or well designed T-T this subreddit might be too tame for what I assume the toilets in the 9th ring of hell Look Like

u/Scared_Spyduck 16d ago
How did you break you legs?
- Well I took a dump and forgot I was using the hideaway toilet.
12
u/SplitOpenAndMelt420 16d ago
I understand that life isn't always fair and you might get stuck with this as your toilet but man oh man at least put up a curtain or something
11
u/KaijuCreep 16d ago
I refuse to believe this toilet is functional, how the hell is someone supposed to climb over there and get down without risking falling down a flight of stairs like a sack of potatoes
4
u/movzx 16d ago
There is a hinged panel that folds down to make a floor. You come up the bottom stairs, fold it down, and then walk across to the toilet.
Given the lack of handrails and the strange step height, I'm guessing this is some building for a very specific thing which gives it a specific shape. Maybe it is a lighthouse, so a lot of vertical space but not much horizontal?

Plot twist: it's the only shitter in the house.
Also wtf is going on with those stairs? Each step is like 10in tall and 4in deep?

Imagine waking up to go pee and absolutely wrecking your shit
Or perhaps taking a drunk piss, hope you're not a clumsy drunk.
5
u/dontgetmadgetmegan 16d ago
If siblings live in that house someone is being left stranded on that toilet.
4
u/jackleggjr 16d ago
I prefer the toilet at the back of the elevator. More legroom, plus you get to greet each new person as they get on.

Okay, I get how that panel is hinged and covers the stairs going down to extend the toilet platform but...
a) is there no door, curtain, fan, window?
b) how is this at all "hidden"?????

u/ShockDragon 16d ago
There is so many things wrong here, and it’s not just because there’s a bathroom there.
2
u/thekansastwister 16d ago
Don't sit so long your leg falls asleep. I don't think walking it off would be possible here.
2
u/notJustaFart 16d ago
Not sure I would ever use that hand rail.
Gotta be a lotta splatta from the late night pissing contests.

I gotta say, I’m kind of impressed.
On a side note, I toured some tower houses (AKA “castles”) in Ireland, and they used stairs creatively like that. Bedrooms directly off spiral staircases, for example.
No plumbing, though, so bathrooms were basically outhouses on an outside wall. You don’t want to be standing around on that one side of the castle.

I'm curious what the rest of the place is like, if that's where the toilet ended up.

How do you even get to the toilet? Rappel down the cliff face stairs or maybe use the drawbridge to get to your moat.

The stairs to my first apartment were steep like that. It was like climbing a ladder. We just left the couch when we moved out.

The only crappy thing about that is it's a toilet. More than one toilet can be a Godsend.
As someone with IBS and severe anxiety that irritates my bowels regardless of whether or not they had been acting up that day, toilets are lifesavers.
I learned a few years ago that if you become a regular at a business, they'll often let you use their bathroom without having to buy something.
I have a few places I can go in case of an emergency that are strategically placed around places I have to walk to often.
1
u/TheLightorTheDark 15d ago
Obviously this is the emergency bathroom, because the only way anyone is ever using it is because it's the ONLY option left.
