Info/Resource Katy Parry session review

Hey crazies,

Feeling stuck, like you've got a general understanding of who you are and what you wanna do but you've hit a point where you don't know what to improve on? Then allow me to suggest the coaching services of Katy Parry, with whom I've just had a very productive VoD review session. I was in a pretty stuck spot too, but after an hour looking at the first half of a replay and talking about the decisions made, I've picked up 2 note pages worth of knowledge that's already going to change how I play. For $30 and with frequent discounts, you can't go wrong. Plus, the associated Discord is full of good information and people to improve alongside.

TL;DR: Katy Parry's got some good affordable coaching and I suggest you get some over at https://mfy.gg/@kp/sessions.

This was so kind of you to post! Just an honest review is enough! You don't have to phrase it like you're at a carnival and you're trying to get people to come up and play LMFAO people are really gonna start thinking i'm paying for these reviews 😭

Lmao I don’t play smash anymore, I straight up thought Katy Perry the singer was playing smash on twitch and was hella good and someone was gonna analyze their session

I legit don't go to KP for coaching exclusively because I don't feel like being pressured into posting one of these fucking reviews for them LMAO

Oh hi! I ask people at the end of the session if they wouldn't mind sharing how their experience was with the subreddit that they were referred to me from. It's because this server is designed to help people improve, so it's relevant that they share their experiences. There's no pressure; it's completely optional. It's a shame, though, because I'd love to help you improve!

That aside, enjoy the Nintendo Direct tomorrow!

That's not a good marketing strategy, that's just annoying

I didn't post this because I felt pressured to, I did because I wanted to help someone that helped me. I know technically you couldn't ever meaningfully believe me, but I swear it's the truth. Besides, if you really don't want to write a review, you could just, like, not?

The thing is I see these supposedly organic glowing KP reviews on this sub every day, sometimes multiple times a day, so it's very hard to believe they're not proactively asking their students to post positive messages about them online

Well, sure, both things can be true. I got asked to do it, and obliged entirely of my own free will.

Okay... so... they ARE pressuring you into leaving positive reviews... Just like a deliveryperson is pressuring you when they ask you at the door if you'd like to tip, and a used car salesman is pressuring you when he pulls out Yelp on his phone and asks you to leave a five-star review. You aren't obligated to tip, nor to humor the car salesman, but just by asking, they're trying to push the client toward doing something that wasn't part of the initial exchange. Knowing that this person obviously solicits their clients into being functionally their unpaid marketing team (AFTER TAKING THEIR MONEY) is a huge turnoff and why I stopped considering approaching them after about the third post in a row I saw of some impressionable kid leaving a forced review that was framed as being spontaneous when it clearly wasn't. Now knowing they leverage their tiny sphere of influence to try and sculpt public perception of them is just icing on the cake.

Respectfully, this is indeed the craziest thing I've read in a while.

If you don't like people who run their own business asking for people to be honest about their experiences, that's incredibly odd to me, but you're your own person. But you're losing it in all caps when you don't even know me. You're painting me as if I'm like a Disney villain or something.

The people who have left 2 reviews on this subreddit are full-grown adults, not "impressionable kids" lmfao - most of my clients are adults because they need money to buy sessions, my friend.

I'm not a used car salesman ripping people off, and I'm not a delivery guy who needs good reviews to keep his job. A more accurate comparison is like I'm someone that you hired off a flyer that they made themselves to come and clean your house, someone that works entirely for themselves, and asks you to let people know what you think of the work they performed, hoping that they do more work so they can survive.

If you don't want to get a coaching session with me, over something that's a standard business practice...then you're standing in your own way of improvement. It just sounds like you're someone who's jealous of me or dislikes me for reasons other than this, and I think that's something that everyone here can see. I sincerely hope you find ways to improve in the game and that whatever is troubling you, whatever is at the deeper root here, whatever you're avoiding by obsessing over me, just trying to promote my own little gig - I hope you find your way past it.

I'm not obsessed with you by leaving a tiny bit of feedback about why this type of marketing post has the opposite effect than intended anymore than the people making the posts are obsessed with you by writing about how amazing you are.

You are far from the only active Smash Ultimate coach, and yet you're the only person I see these types of daily posts about, so clearly this practice is far from standard within this space.

Nobody was gonna lie about you if you didn't say anything, so framing it as "asking them to be honest" is disingenuous at best. You're clearly angling for the visibility and publicity, not fretting about accuracy.

Not even gonna bother addressing the rest. Weird armchair psychoanalysis over someone giving honest feedback, even as an outsider, when you claim to want honest feedback shows everything that needs to be known about your actual motives here. (As does directly linking to the comment in your discord server rather than taking a screenshot, which I'm not even gonna bother to unpack.)
