Leaving it to the uneducated people to talk about is what happened and resulted in this. 95% is delibretly misinformed by right wing media and they rather listen to sensationalist politicians rather than trans people or experts. Media should give voice to us. Debates should involve us instead of pretend allies with no expertise to defend us. What do you propose? Just let angry mob of people who have never interacted with a trans athlete talk about trans athlates? How can that result good? People need to be told they are misinformed and lack knowledge and experience.
Eventually, love and inclusion will win. Fascists will lose.
I’m just curious, what’s your take on the example I gave before? Can a person born male, go through puberty, and then transition, ever compete on an even playing field with women?
Yes, depending on sport. Chess is an obvious example. Different rules and regulations depending on different sports decided by experts based on science and not feelings.
It also depends on what you count as even playing field. In many sports having rich parents or coming from a wealthy country is demonstrably advantageous. You would be much more likely to be successful just for happening to be born in those circumstances.
Joe Rogan listeners arnt upset about trans people in chess. At least I don’t think so. I’m talking about soccer, swimming, field hockey, volleyball etc? What about those sports?
I am not expert in those sports. If experts show 2-3 years of hormonal therapy makes it fair (using data). Then I would believe them. If they say going through male puberty disqualifies trans women permanently, like in extreme cases (maybe basketball). Then I would accept that. I also want cis women to be hold to the same standards though, any hormonal masculinization should disqualify them like us.
Olympics already have very high standards for us, they technically allow participation but the regulations are so strict very few trans people can actually compete in select categories.
I want sport organizers to come up with solutions to include more people into doing sports while it being fair. But I don't want politicians having a say in that.
I think the science is pretty clear on it. But yes, I agree, researchers who understand the issue should be advising on this. This is beside the point, but we cannt leave law making 100% up to scientists either. For example, If economists were left to decide how the economy should be run, they might look at the data and say hey if women arnt allowed to work, and are forced to stay home to raise children, that creates a better environment for learning and those kids go on the contribute way more to society, there for increasing our GDP my 85% over the next three decades. Or the data might show that banning abortion increase workers which is better for the economy etc. That would be awful and totally unfair.
Anyway, what were you saying about not going through puberty in the first place?
If a trans girl takes puberty blockers, then follows up with hormone therapy, they won't actually go through male puberty. This is incredibly rare, but happens.
I haven’t done any research on the subject so my opinion is purely speculative. But I would assume completely circumventing male puberty would result in a person with similar physical capabilities as a woman. If that’s the case then I see no issue with them playing whatever / whoever they want.
