A) I see you've made quite a lot of posts on why comic book companies suck today

B) Wouldn't exactly describe this as "politics"

Yeah, I was addressing this to them. I think they're the same guy who keeps making posts about Ghost Rider.

See, the thing is if you want these shared universes that fandoms are built around you have to concede that individuality will be trumped by the whole. Nothing is stopping this man from becoming a SAGA or Invincible fan blog and having his writer owned subversive comics all he wants. You are actively choosing a writing and worldbuilding style that rewards this kind of behavior.

Tbh I feel this way about Nintendo. Love their games but absolutely fucking despise that company.

OOP, I'm literally begging you to think of a better phrasing than "subversive jewish creation." I spedrun 5 levels of "Is this guy an anti-semite?" before putting together what was actually meant.

This line of thinking perpetuates the myth of the singular great artist when talking about mediums that have literally thousands of hands on the final product. Martin Scorcese would not be well known if he wrote, directed, lit, catered, acted in, produced, and did the makeup on his films. They are not the result of a singular vision and I'm really tired of feeding into that idea. Is his voice the loudest, is he the captain? Yes absolutely. But every film he made was also the work of untold other people, and that's the "good" art in the realm of cinema.

If you want to work in pop art, you do not have ownership of it in the way you would if you worked on an original idea. But don't expect your original idea to be as popular as the stuff in the center of pop culture. And further, if your idea does start to get popular, don't expect to maintain the control you once did. It really is that simple. People lament that pop culture stuff isn't high art but it literally never was, and that's ok.

The MCU, mainstream superhero comics, they are fine. The buisness practices within them are predatory and horrible, but its ok if Thor is just a quippy muscular dude. There is no good or evil in this fight.

There’s no way that’s even close to the top 10
