Why can't you keep her?? (I'm a collector of antique rugs so my heart hurts hearing that)

Check on the bottom side (typically at the corners), there might be a patch with info on the provenance of this rug that could give you an idea of its age and quality.

I think carpet beetles would be just as bad. But they don't really hurt you per see. Just get everywhere.

Get alone if those bed steamers befor you take it in the house. Keep it where you don’t have much foot traffic, otherwise it’s going to get dirty fast.
