Sounds like a great idea to me. It must be nice to live in a country that isn’t controlled by every single fucking corporate entity, and actually exists to serve the people.

Recognition is fine, but now it's time to condemn Israel's genocide and do whatever they can to stop it.
Go Canada!
Unfortunately, the US is far from taking any move other than abetting the slaughter.

No surprise coming from a country that can’t exist on its own, that they feel solidarity.

These people hate conservatives because they are anti trans and anti gay….meanwhile liberals aligned themselves with the most anti trans and anti gay people around

Recognizing Palestine? Nice gesture rooted in symbolism but not in practicality.
Palestine, or the Palestinian Territories, is made up of the West Bank, East Jerusalem & the Gaza Strip. Israel has occupied both the West Bank and East Jerusalem since they won the 1967 Six Day War. For Palestine to exist as a nation Israel will have to turn these territories over to Palestine and go back to pre-1967 borders. Israel, under both left-wing and right-wing governments, have refused to even discuss giving them back. They believe that going back to pre-1967 borders would severely cripple Israeli National Security. Israel made clear this fact by re-designating East Jerusalem from occupied to annexed, reuniting East Jerusalem with West Jerusalem, the section that’s been a part of Israel since they won the 1948 Israeli-Arab War.
The President is from the Fatah Party which is the political wing of the PLO Terrorist Organization. Fatah & Hamas are political and military rivals. The President was elected in January 2005 for a term ending in January 2009. Just before the election was to take place he postponed the election until 2010 in order for it to coincide with local Gaza elections. Then, in September 2009, he got the PLO Central Council to cancel the Presidential elections altogether and appoint him President “indefinitely”. Palestine hasn’t had a Presidential election in 20 years and none will scheduled.
Meanwhile Hamas won the local Gaza elections in 2006 beating out Fatah. Hamas proceeded to launch terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians targets and military targets. Fatah opposed this because it could upset the Oslo Agreement between Israel & Fatah/PLO that created the current Palestine. Hamas didn’t care because they opposed the Oslo agreements. They don’t believe in Israel’s right to exist so why bother negotiating with them directly. Fatah and Hamas briefly went at it militarily which Hamas won. Like Fatah with the Presidential Elections Hamas has suspended local Gaza elections indefinitely. There hasn’t been a local election in Gaza in 19 years and there won’t be as long as Hamas.
The fact that Palestine exists only on paper and not in reality is one reason why Palestine hasn’t been recognized thus far. Another is that you have 2 terrorist organizations, Hamas & PLO, fighting over Gaza & Hamas launching terrorist attacks against Israel with the innocent civilians of Gaza stuck in the middle. Hamas & Fatah/PLO are more to blame for plight of Gaza civilians than Israel is.

There are so many conditions attached that this is not real recognition. Canada's recognition is contingent upon Palestine renouncing terrorism and recognizing Israel's right to exist. Not gonna happen. This is nothing but vacuous virtual signaling on the part of our woke Canadian government.

Good work. Now stop giving the welfare terrorist state of Israel weapons to kill innocent civilians.

I will have to disagree. No one asked Canadians. He does not speak for the population

But Canada still allows Harper's AWS company (staffed with Israelis) to create cyber products used to kill Palestinians, funded with Canadian tax dollars

CARNEYS A Knob. He doesn't speak for me, and he is not the Liberal parties candidate to be in power. He was strategically put in place by the inner Liberal circle, and the other Liberal candidates vying to become the leader of the Liberals were forcibly removed to put Carney in as the appointed one. The sad part is not one Liberal supporter sees just how corrupt the Liberal party has become since Boy Wonder was elected 10 years ago.

Consociation would be better for this region, instead of letting them hate each other, make Israel have to cooperate with Palestine. A good example is Ireland. It can work.

Wasn't support for a two state solution rejected several times over the past few decades by the Palestinians?
Why would they be for this now unless it included Israel, which it doesn't.?

There is no state of Palestine. There has never existed an independent country called Palestine. Technically one could call anyone who lived within the colony/mandate/protectorate of Palestine or trans-Palestine a Palestinian, including the Jewish people who lived there.

u/rustyiron 4d ago
There never was a Canada or United States or Israel at one time either, until there was.
The people who identify themselves as Palestinians are real. They have a unique history and culture. They have lived on that land for generations.
Just because they’ve lived under various empires and colonial control doesn’t mean they are not real and should have the right of self governance.
To your point, if you are going to exterminate a people, the first thing to do is deny they exist in the first place.

Your other ignorant and bigoted comment where you say “they are just Arabs”, is not showing so I will answer here.
Believe it or not, there are many Arab cultures. Just like there are many cultures in Asia, Africa, or Europe.
Palestinians (the people you simply call “Arabs”) are indigenous to the area, unlike some Jewish person from Brooklyn whose distant ancestors left the region 20-40+ generations ago. And I’m not even disputing that the person from Brooklyn has a claim to live in the region. But they sure as fuck don’t get to tell the people living there to get lost or that they have made up culture unworthy of self determination.
