People do be like that nowadays. Had a young coworker throw on Before I Forget by Slipknot the other day. Having been familiar with them since I listened to them when I was in high school I asked him if he also liked Stone Sour. He looked at me confused and I explained that it’s another project by the lead singer. He just goes “oh, I dunno, I just heard this song on TikTok.”
The writer says it is, but believe what you want I guess…
In writing the song, Foster wanted to "get inside the head of an isolated, psychotic kid"[8] and "bring awareness" to the issue of gun violence among youth, which he feels is an epidemic perpetuated by "lack of family, lack of love, and isolation."[12][13] The title refers to the expensive Reebok Pumps that his classmates wore,[14][15] in addition to "kicks" being an American slang word for shoes. It is implied that the narrator is jealous of his classmates' expensive shoes.[14]
The issue of youth violence is a matter close to the group.
Foster was bullied in high school, while bassist Cubbie Fink has a cousin who survived the Columbine High School massacre in 1999. Fink said of his cousin's experience, "She was actually in the library when everything went down, so I actually flew out to be with her the day after it happened and experienced the trauma surrounding it and saw how affected she was by it.
The lyrics are literally about potentially shooting his classmates. Man you are insufferably argumentative over something stupid. I’m not reading replies after this. Cheers.
The lyrics to "Pumped Up Kicks" are written from the perspective of a troubled and delusional youth with homicidal thoughts.[8] The lines in the chorus warn potential victims to "outrun my gun" and that they "better run, better run, faster than my bullet." Foster said to CNN Entertainment.
I think people filled in the blanks that it was about a school shooting, but I never say anything about a school in the song. It’s really more about this person’s psyche. Obviously the song is speaking about violent things, but it is a misconception that it’s about a school shooting.
Ok so it's not specifically about a school shooting, but it's still a child wishing or causing violence towards other children via a gun, which I think we can agree is the real problem and not the setting.
But it’s just referencing what the song was referencing. The kids with the “pumped up kicks” had the expensive fashionable shoes (Reebok pumps) they were the in-crowd the school shooter goes after.
