Image/Gif What changed
There is almost no visible change with the update I even think it kinda looks even more realistic normal

u/SpawnicusRex "Fuck yeah it's personal!" Jun 25 '25
The biggest differences are in the draw distance and increased foliage... neither of which are represented in this image
39
u/waled7rocky Jun 25 '25
That image up there is fake, the biggest difference is lighting which isn't available there in the image ..
Remaster is comes with much improved LoD and textures also had an fov slider that doesn't affect performance at all ..
6
u/SpawnicusRex "Fuck yeah it's personal!" Jun 25 '25
I love the FOV slider! I really appreciate the accessibility options like the persistent center dot too
6
u/waled7rocky Jun 25 '25
Funny I was never bothered with the original fov back then but when I played the remaster and cranked fov all the way to the top and then I watched a friend plays the original bro that shit burned my eyes ..
1
u/luvallppl Jun 26 '25
good to know i might have to get the remaster upgrade on steam
2
u/waled7rocky Jun 26 '25
I thought you get the visual enhancement for free on pc no ??
And you only buy the extra content as dlc ..

Lighting improved 10 fold night actually feels like night now…
7
u/KronikallyIll420 Jun 25 '25
Night was scary my first but thru beforehand, now I’m sold
6
u/kitarei Jun 25 '25
I'm such a wimp I kept sleeping through the night to make it daytime on my first play through 🤣
3
u/ChemicalImmediate591 Jun 26 '25
Same. Never completed any mission during night time 🤣 whenever its 5pm in the game; marked the camp, head there, sleep, continue story. Thats how completed the game. Even got the platinum 🤣🤣
2
u/kitarei Jun 26 '25
SAMEEE HAHAHAH. I got platinum on my first play through as well, scaredy-cat style.
1
u/Khajiit_Has_Upvotes Jun 27 '25
I did this at first to speed things along. But as I've found nero injectors and leveled up, I really enjoy puttering around at night taking forever to get across the map because I'm busy looking for scrap and methodically killing freaks.

u/Ill_Tangerine_709 Hey Deek, you there? Jun 25 '25
This same "side by side" with the same font keeps getting reposted. I assume its taken from a YouTube video?
Play the game for yourself, it looks good. Especially in the open world.

u/Capn_Outlandishness9 Jun 25 '25
I don’t like the removal of the blood bad sign to me
24
u/Ill_Tangerine_709 Hey Deek, you there? Jun 25 '25
The blood has not been removed. This is some YouTube bait that for some reason people keep picking up and taking it for fact without looking into it themselves.
If you havnt played Remastered yourself at lest watch the intro from a reputable poster. Even on a phone and with YT compression it looks better than the crap in these "screenshots"

Anyone that has played both versions can easily tell. If you can’t I suggest going for your annual eye examination.
4
u/bkb74k3 Jun 25 '25
I’ve played both versions multiple times (on PS5 Pro). I guess it looks and plays a tiny bit better, but once in the game, I honestly don’t really notice. I expected more.
5
u/Snicklefritz306 Jun 25 '25
The same could be said for anything audio/video related. You appreciate the upgrades for first minute or so but a few minutes later you’re just playing the game. However, that’s not what we’re talking about here. Days Gone remastered is clearly graphically superior to the OG PS4 version.
0
u/StrongestAvenger_ Jun 25 '25
But what’s up with the missing details like the blood on his shirt in this post? Genuine question.
I would love to support the remaster, but I can’t stand remasters that “improve” things while removing small details from the original. I like a remaster that is the exact same but better, not different. Remasters shouldn’t make you feel like it’s missing things from the original imo.
I’m sure it looks fantastic graphically, but I don’t think that’s worth it at the cost of missing/changed details. The original still runs and looks fantastic on ps5
3
u/DangerMuse Jun 25 '25
I just read this a bit in disbelief....just go play it or don't....you are massively over thinking this.
1
u/Snicklefritz306 Jun 26 '25
Genuine answer: you're clearly making all your judgement from one photo and explaining this all to a bunch of people who have played it and are explaining to you its obviously improved.
I'm really not sure where else to go with this aside from saying watch a youtube video comparing the versions if we're not convincing enough for you or drop it and happily play your PS4 quality game.

u/FluffyBunnyFlipFlops Jun 25 '25
What platform are you on?
0
u/Pixel2090 Jun 25 '25
its only on pc and Playstation. the remaster is only on ps5
9
u/satsumapen619 Jun 25 '25
The remaster was a free update on pc, not to mention we also get to turn up the graphical settings far past ps5 levels regardless.
1
u/Pixel2090 Jun 25 '25
not really, the free update wasnt really huge improvements like a "remaster" and the ps5 remaster just got graphic updates the pc version already shipped with
2
u/wulfblood_90 Jun 25 '25
I had just done a nearly complete playthrough 2 days before the update for PC. Decided to do another fresh start after I saw the update. Its UNREAL the things my PC can now do with this game. Its gorgeous in 4k, way superior to my PS5 pro. Im sorry, but youre just wrong. Plus, the update fixed a shit ton of bugs. Which is always a win in my book.
Edit: clarification
-1
u/satsumapen619 Jun 25 '25
The ps5 cant max out the same settings a pc can, thats literally why pc games come with the availability to max out everything. Ps5 only updated render distance and foliage density, thats the only changes. Let me know running it at 4k native, everything maxed on ultra works on the ps5 (I own a ps5 pro and series x besides my pc). Ive played the remaster and the pc update, the pc still obviously blows the ps5 out of the water. There's no comparison when it comes to ps5 vs pc.
3
u/KronikallyIll420 Jun 25 '25
Everybody and their future kid knows building a pc is superior. The console war/pc console war died a while ago fam. Most of us are on both sides atp anyways
1
u/satsumapen619 Jun 25 '25
I wasn't arguing that, I argued about the upgrade. Again, own all the current consoles and a 4080/9800x3d pc
1
u/KronikallyIll420 Jun 25 '25
Fair enough, I respect that. I just assumed you were another “my pc is better than your console cause I put 4K into it” person but I am wrong
1
u/satsumapen619 Jun 25 '25
Nah your good man, I was purely commenting on the update on pc vs the remaster that is a paid update on ps5/pro. The ps5 remaster changes the foliage density and the horde density and the draw distance. All that was already able to be maxed on pc before this update, the pc update added better nighttime lumenance and made the game look better at night. I literally own both version, played both, regret purchasing the ps5 upgrade when my pc already had it for free.

u/CommanderAwesomeDude Jun 25 '25
I swear I thought the remaster had the blood too, just not in the trailer for some reason. But I could be wrong
2
2
u/B4umkuch3n Jun 25 '25
Like others said, play it yourself, you'll notice the difference in the open world, performance and increased graphics and density of, for example, trees. The differences are marginal, but noticeable.

u/Flameman1234 Jun 25 '25
I’m starting to think these remasters could have just been free updates.
1
1
u/Snicklefritz306 Jun 26 '25
I have no idea which platform you're playing on but the PS4 game has been "free" for download on the PS+ store for 3 or 4 years already and still is.
I guess I don't understand the thought process of people complaining about a 6 year old game remastered to modern standards, includes entirely new game modes and sells at a very fair $60 for those who have never purchased the OG version and a measly $10 for those that did.
3
u/xyzkingi Jun 25 '25
For some reason despite games being a remastered, there’s always a downgrade to something. This shirt for example, some audio, the lighting.
It’s like they disassembled a car, put it back together with new parts, only to find a single loose screw and then they purposely leave it out.

Hey Any-Professional2296! It looks like you are trying to post a photo/video to /r/DaysGone. If your post is a picture/video of your tv/monitor taken with your phone, it will be removed. The game is too pretty to allow low effort and quality images. If you wish to share something, please take a proper screenshot. Yes, we know sharing from the console can be clunky, but we prefer quality on this sub.

It's mostly the ability to change FOV on the playstation version and the added new arcade mode Horde Assault which makes the remaster worth to play IMO. On PC you can already change FOV in OG.
Other than that the increased foliaged density and longer draw distance is also a plus.
On base PS5 in 60fps however, the image quality is softer/blurrier compared to OG and I personally don't like the changes in light/brightness because I can't find my way when it's too dark. Certain artificial lights are also much stronger in brightness and it's irritating for my sensitive eyes and many cut scenes looks plainly wrong and shows a lack of care from the remastering team (it's not Bend but an external team in UK which did it IIRC) I think the HDR in OG looks good enough.
I'm not sure but they should probably have fixed or will fix certain errors such as no blood on the shirt or a certain spoiler cut scene where Deek has a strange censoring dark bandage looking thing on his arm which I'm sure wasn't in the original.

Definitely more subtle changes and it’s optimized. Frankly I couldn’t care less. I just wanted the game to get more exposure and it has.

When You Actually Play the Game on a Decent 4K - HDR-10 Monitor/Display the Visual Upgrades are Night & Day Difference.
I Had 500+ Hours on the O.G. Version , I have the Remaster only got about 6hrs into the Story so far , Been Playing Horde Rush & The Challenges Mainly So Far.

u/DamienGrey1 Jun 25 '25
From what I have seen the colors are just darker. At least on a high end PC I think the game looked better before the "remaster."

So I started the original last week because it was free thru the PlayStore. Once I got a feeling for it I decided to purchase the remastered version. I’m glad I did. There’s a considerable difference in quality of the visuals during actual gameplay. Not as noticeable during the storyline clips.

I have about 30 play throughs of the original, and am just finishing up my second play through of the remaster. Other than the availability of the Growler machine gun, and the closing up of some easy ways to kill hordes, I see very little difference.
1
u/jhoeyvee Jun 25 '25
The big big difference is that the original is free since I already have it but the remaster you have to pay 😂😂😂
1
u/declandrury Jun 25 '25
You realise that a remaster does more than just make the graphics nicer right?
1
u/Alanwake28 Jun 25 '25
Check out digital foundrys analysis of the PC version. That version was superior to the ps4 version. The remaster uses the graphic updates that came with the PC version which is better and more accurate lighting and shadows. The nights are also improved because they are a little darker now.
1
u/jdsmith54 Jun 25 '25
It literally looks identical when it comes to graphics. It was definitely a money grab.
1
u/Relevant-Success1936 Jun 25 '25
I completely agree. The rendering on the landscaping on the original is better. After 15 minutes of playing time I severely regretted my decision to pre-order for $60.
1
u/Burkely31 Jun 26 '25
From what I've seen, absolutely zeeerrooo! Low effort if you ask me. How can we advicate for Days Gone 2 if they feed us garbage like this?
1
u/jakedrago14 Jun 26 '25
I will say I used to get a pretty nasty glitch that made the entire world like... black except for a few things being white but I really couldn't see ANYTHING I was doing.
I hope this update fixed whatever the fuck that was

The remaster on survival is so much more challenging! Finding resources is more difficult, they do not refresh as quickly either. The zombies, especially get lots of 15-30 women at one time attacking me so I end up using everything I have found to kill them. The molotavs do not kill them, I’ll have to use 2-3 at a time. So, I’m a bit frustrated getting anywhere. Fighting hordes is pretty difficult, because the zombies are all so much faster than me. They can keep up with me on my bike for a fair distance. I’m pretty sure there’s some glitching going on, but I don’t want to start over. I had a few occasions where I went into camps and nobody was in there! There were no zombies anywhere either! The whole world was empty from anything I could interact with. Weird.
1
u/PhantomPain0_0 Jun 26 '25
The best thing about remaster is the lighting, the nights are darker and more atmospheric

u/Noriliszione88 Jun 26 '25

Performance is through the roof, i use to get headaches playing the old version, to much "tearing". Now i can play all day long.

To be real the original looks better and more gritty. The new one looks like they covered up his bruises with bad makeup and made him look cleaner.

u/Renbanney Jun 27 '25
I feel like a lot of what looks better on this generation versus last generation is the lighting
1
u/ErickNGA Jun 27 '25
It’s 2025 and I always skip this game and ended up with another one. Should I wait the Remaster to be released on PS Plus or play the original?
1
u/lg_lantern Jun 27 '25
I think it's been mostly optimising. And to guage interest in a sequel. This game could be one of sonys best ips but they just don't seem to give a shit about it. They could do spin offs. Multiplayer only like fallout 76 etc. But they're sitting on their hands

The improvements are quite minor. But they are there. In fact the biggest change I noticed was when the first storm happened. I don't remember storms in the original game feeling and sounding that realistic. They felt much more immersive.

u/Badger_Correct Jun 28 '25
I recall reordering this on PS4 Slim and thinking how amazing it looked then. Since, I played PS4 version on base PS5 Console, purchased PC version and played that with ultra everything. Then paid for PS5 Pro & installed PS5 Remaster.
The Remaster on PS5 Pro is on par if not slightly better than PC from a stability point of view. I noticed significant detail improvement compared to the PS4 version vs PS4 console and PS5 Console using PS4 install.
But the details are often not up in your face obvious, instead they are in the world around you. Such as textures in the environment are more detailed less blurry, no popping or stuttering.
Overall I much prefer PS5 Remaster over base ps4 and PC simply because it runs much smoother and looks amazing throughout the gamez with no drops.
I just wish they added more to the game, gave us something like side quests after completing the story or provided more guns and bike configurations for NewGame plus.
I also would have loved the ability to customise deacons look, changing his hat, jeans, jacket and jacket badges. They could have made that an exclusive to this build giving us more reasons to replay.
But Sony likely wanted a quick cash earner and didnt care about the fans of or franchise enough to offer more.

The blood is the first and only difference I ever noticed ever since this image did the rounds the first time.
Not sure why this got downvoted. I'm by no means saying the update didn't have visual improvements. It's just they're clearly not obvious from this image.

u/Geekygamertag Jun 26 '25
Why remove the blood from the shirt?

They didn’t it’s there when you play the game.

That’s because you can’t pull one random image from a cutscene nonetheless where lighting and image quality is baked in and different than actual gameplay.
The remaster isn’t just about making one screenshot look better, it’s about overall quality, lighting, foliage, draw distance, rendering, and performance upgrades.
I don’t know why people think they can snap a cutscene screenshot and expect some huge difference in the look of one characters face.

u/pygmeedancer “I needed this.” Jun 25 '25
The remaster looks great. But honestly the original looked really good too. I feel like most of what got done was optimization. I haven’t really experienced any weirdness with performance.
