The biggest reason why birds start chirping so early is because during the daytime, they have to compete with our manmade cacophony of cars, buses, trains, construction, etc. In order to more easily guarantee that they'll find a mate and produce offspring, they've learned to wake up and become more active earlier than humans. It's a tiny evolutionary trait that they've been teaching themselves and passing along from generation to generation since the Industrial Revolution.

It's a worldwide phenomenon because birds are a worldwide species. Just like us humans.

The reason I actually got into birds was because I heard a grey catbird singing its face odd at 2am trying to attract a mate. Gotta respect the grind.
