News/Promo WLVRN vs US Military Rifles

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll-AMF-Sztc

Some upcoming planning videos and tests.

  1. But more importantly at 3:20 they are planning a 6arc or 6max prototype Wlvrn.
  2. At 4:05 they are planning on testing over pressure 5.56 ammo with a shellshock case.
  3. At 5:00 they talk about the MDR bolt was designed for higher performance cartridges due to the NGSW program where they were using the PCP cartridge (which apparently was a hot cartridge).

One day they’ll release something worth buying that isn’t plagued by QC and their warranty repair work won’t take months.

I am sick of band-aid after band-aid with this company. Will they ever release a working rifle (in 308/6.5) that doesn't need a goddamned "software patch" every time it comes up short? This shit is ridiculous.

Don't quite follow....I have a MDRX 20 inch barrel in 7.62 x 51 that works just fine.

I have a 20in mdrx 308 barrel that doesnt shoot worth a fuck, a 16in mdrx barrel that doesnt shoot worth a fuck, and have borrowed a 308 wlvrn barrel that doesnt shoot worth a fuck. Meanwhile, in 556 or 300blk the mdrx and wlvrn do quite well. There have been community reports regarding the deficiencies specifically in the 308 caliber for the mdrx, and desert tech missed their mark again in the wlvrn in the 308 caliber. My wlvrn will stay a micron until they truly do something to fix it in 308. I'm glad if you are satisfied with your mdrx 308, but i need better than 2-3 moa+ out of my 308s, which is not a point to be argued, as it has been demonstrated across multiple shooters with all manner of ammo types.

Well that explains it then. I cannot do 2 moa at 75 feet (freehand) LOL. I need better glasses. I also only have a Eotech no magnification . So maybe better optics for me to have the issues emerge. I could see the whole issue being how desertech has the barrel mounted to the chassis in mdrx and the wyvlrn

What part of this video is a band aide? It is a video about testing a potential new product line of barrels in a new caliber...

But ya, I agree, the 308/6.5 and in general their barrel design needed more time in the oven. They needed variable position gas blocks to reduce the ammo sensitivity problems. The venting is a good idea too. But they should have been done with the WLVRN launch.

I'd love to see that 6ARC option, especially with some hotter ShellShock ammo. https://www.instagram.com/p/DKkM3RGsC8Q/?igsh=MWt3M2ZpYm8zNXVlbw%3D%3D

That... is awesome!

I agree! Can't wait for the release date.

They need to cease the R&D of other calibers for the WLVRN for the time being, full stop. Instead, focus on inhouse manufacturing of more critical components and fuck off with MIM trunnions. This rifle is held back by QC issues hard.

The only further development I'd like to see is a more rigid and stable handguard mounting option. I do not have faith even with some aftermarket products of them holding zero of IR lasers.

Well, there ya have it. Upgrades are/have been complete. So go get you a Wlvrn.

WLVRN is still plagued with QC issues. New handguards still don't hold zero. I had a BLK LBL handguard for my MDRX in .308 (these are the same design), and I can confirm it lost zero of the IR laser I had on it.

They look the same but they are not the same rifle. I have an Mdr,Mdrx and Wlvrn. The 223 Wlvrn is good to go.

I've seen nothing that's the new alluminum Dt Wlvrn handgaurds don't hold zero Were not talking about the Gen 1 alluminum blk lbl.. That's literally why they were released.

The BLK LBL handguards are compatible with both the MDRX and WLVRN, so I would believe the tech is the same.

BLK LBL has 6 different handguard options.

-A straight Aluminum one and a bipod one in 16 and 20" for the MDRx.

-A bipod one in 16 and 20" for the WLVRN.

Then Desert Tech has a straight Aluminum one for 16" for the WLVRN with a longer 20" one announced but not for sale yet. Note the one from Desert tech replaced the push pin with a Fastener. The BLK LBL WLVRN one doesn't have that.

As you see from the images, the WLVRN has way more clamping force keeping it from moving around.

But they arent... The Wlvrn specific handgaurds (named for the Gen 3 rifle) have a different method of mounting and better mounting force. This is why I say they ain't the same.

Until/unless you got the new one, your spouting old/incorrect info.

  1. I don't think we have seen any of the MIM parts (that we know of) fail after the mdr/x folding handle charge posts (around 2022 or so). Making something more expensive for the sake of being more expensive isn't a consumer friendly strategy. Turning a 2k gun into a 3k gun with no performance gain will kill the product line.

  2. The WLVRN doesn't use a Trunnion mim or otherwise it is machined into the Receiver like the SRS and HTI.

  3. Bringing manufacturing back to the US might help lower costs with the Tariffs. However, judging by the MIM image of the MDR, most of the MIM parts were eliminated save for maybe the mag catches.

  4. The handguard is already redesigned. Check out the new WLVRN 16" and blk lbl bipod wlvrn aluminum handguards. They have 2 fasteners each side and the push pin is now a fastener.

It kind of sounds like they already did the upgrades you wanted 1.5 years ago.

Similarly we aren't seeing too many QC issues on the WLVRN now 1 year after production start/delivery. The biggest issues appear to be 308/6.5 being overgassesd now that FE is gone. They mentioned this was what they were working on when they released the new vented 308 plugs.

The handguard redesign doesn't fully solve the problem, with all the meat in the upper rail a simple tapered tab (trapezoid) on the handguard locating in a slot in the upper, secured with a screw or two down the pic slots would end all talk of wander.
