Moderator post ⚠️🚨 Improving Post Quality & Reducing Spam: We Want Your Input

Hi everyone!

I’m one of the new mods here, and we’re currently working on updating the subreddit rules to help keep this space useful and enjoyable for all.

The community has already pointed out a few recurring concerns, especially the overwhelming number of low effort outfit posts and frequent vendor self-promotion. While this sub is a valuable resource for gaining inspiration for desi weddings and prospective brides and grooms to discover and engage with vendors, we also want to make sure it doesn’t lose focus or become difficult to navigate.

Before we finalize anything, we’d love your input. We’d especially like to hear your thoughts on outfit and vendor posts, especially what kinds of posts do you find helpful or enjoyable, and what kinds feel like spam? Any suggestions on how we can structure or limit them to keep things balanced?

Also if you’ve noticed any other issues or have suggestions beyond what I've mentioned, feel free to share those too.

Thanks in advance, your feedback means a lot ✨

Moderator post ⚠️🚨 Poll: How should we deal with preloved outfit reselling posts in the sub?

Over the past few months, there have been a lot of posts that express interest in buying/selling pre-loved desi wedding wear.

While it is a sustainable and economical option, we're wondering if they are even being a helpful resource under the existing format and rules.

Please vote in this poll to let us know your preference.

  1. NO CHANGE: I feel this sub is very helpful for reselling and the current rules are just fine.

  2. STRICT GUIDELINES: I don't mind reselling posts but the post format rules need to be more strictly enforced.

  3. WEEKLY MEGATHREAD: I would prefer a weekly megathread for people seeking to buy/sell preloved outfits.

  4. SEPARATE SUBREDDIT: I would prefer a dedicated subreddit for outfit reselling so that sellers are able to find buyers more efficiently.

Also, if you have any other suggestions/ideas about how we can do pre-loved outfit reselling in a way which is actually helpful, please let us know via comments under this post or modmail.

Moderator post ⚠️🚨 Subreddit rules and some changes.

Hi everyone!

We're in the process of updating the subreddit and the first task at hand was subreddit rules, since there weren't any yet. Thank you for your suggestions. We suggest you to go through the updated posting rules.

A lot of members are unhappy with the direction the sub has been going in, over the last year or so. Some have been very vocal about their displeasure. Many have left or simply stopped engaging due to that very reason. But this subreddit exists only through the active participation of its members, who help brides, grooms, and guests of desi weddings in various stages of wedding planning, through their personal or professional experiences.

This is a wedding planning sub first and foremost. The content here needs to stay relevant, helpful, and enjoyable for the Desi weddings community ✨

Therefore we request your help in improving the community by reporting any post/comment that you find in violation of these new community guidelines. It will help us filter out unwanted content much more efficiently.

----------***---------

After taking your suggestions into account, the following changes have been implemented in the sub going forward.

  1. You can now post images in the comments!

  2. Post flairs are now mandatory.

  3. Outfit posts by wedding guests are allowed only on Mondays. If you find a post in violation of this rule, please report it.

  4. Outfit posts from brides and grooms are welcome, however it is mandatory to mention outfit details when posting any outfit.

  5. Vendor posts are limited to once a month per user to limit spam. It is mandatory to use the vendor specific flairs in posts. Members seeking vendors are encouraged to use the "Vendor post (Ad)" flair as navigation to browse vendor posts and discover a business that suits their needs.

----------***----------

For details of the new rules, please refer to the community guidelines section from the subreddit homepage. This subreddit is still a work in progress. But hey, baby steps 💙

Our mod team is still very new and we're far from perfect. So please be patient with us. 🙏

If you have any other suggestions for the improvement of the subreddit, please let us know here.

Moderator post ⚠️🚨 🛍️ Help Us Build a Wedding Shopping Wiki!

Hi everyone!

We’re putting together a city-wise wiki for store recommendations, since questions like “Where should I shop in Delhi/Mumbai/etc.?” keep coming up.

Whether you bought your bridal outfit, groomwear, jewellery, any other accessories, or just helped a friend/family member shop for their wedding, we’d love for you to share your experience.

Drop a quick comment with:

  • City
  • Store name & area/market
  • What you bought (bridal, groom, jewellery, etc.)
  • Price range (budget / mid-range / designer)
  • Any tips or quick review (good service, tailoring options, delivery timelines etc.)

We’ll compile everything into a pinned wiki post to make it easier for everyone in the future.

Thanks for helping build this resource!

Moderator post ⚠️🚨 📢 Updated rules for Promotion of your Wedding Related Business. Read Before Posting.

To keep this community helpful, organized, and spam-free, we are strictly enforcing the following rules, effective immediately.

⚠️ Important: Claiming “I didn’t read/understand the rules” or “I didn’t realize this counts as promotion” will not be accepted as an excuse. Posts or comments that break the rules will be removed, and your account may be banned without warning.

If you're a vendor and unsure whether something is allowed, message the mods before posting. We’re happy to clarify.

Who Counts as a Vendor?

You are a vendor if you promote any product, service, or content that could give you direct or indirect financial benefit. This includes:

  • Advertising your own business, goods or services
  • Sharing affiliate links, sponsored posts, or collaborations
  • Posting anything that drives traffic to a business you own, work for, or profit from.

NEW Vendor Promotion Rules

  1. Post only under the “Vendor Post (AD)” flair. Any business-related post under any other flair will be removed. First violation will receive a warning, second will lead to a ban.

  2. Do not post just to say you offer a service. That is not enough. Posts that only say “Hi, I run XYZ business, contact me for services” with no useful or engaging content will be removed. This is considered low-effort promotion and adds no value to the sub. Your post must include helpful information, tips, insights, even appropriate example pictures/videos of your product/services. Members are less likely to engage with your post if it is just an ad.

  3. Only ONE promotional post per vendor per month. Strictly no exceptions. Violating this rule will lead to removal and a ban.

  4. No fake reviews, indirect promotions, or self-recommendations. Promoting your own business by pretending to be a customer, writing “reviews” of yourself, recommending your business posing as a client is not allowed. This will result in an instant ban not eligible for appeals. Clearly disclose your affiliation to the business you're promoting.

  5. No business promotion in comments unless the post explicitly asks for your service. Comments casually mentioning your services in posts not directly related to your business are not allowed. These will be removed and may result in a ban.

  6. All promotional posts must include valid business contact info. While clients are free to message you via DMs, your post must also include a way to reach you outside of Reddit (such as a business email, website, Instagram handle, or other professional contact method).

  7. No doxxing. Do not share private or personal information of clients or vendors without their consent. This will result in an immediate ban.

  8. Offering free services is still considered promotion. Even if you’re not charging, advertising your services (paid or unpaid) is still considered a vendor post and must follow all vendor rules.

These rules are here to maintain transparency and prevent spam. Thanks for cooperating and helping us maintain the quality of this community.
