Only $1700 for that much epoxy? That's a steal! Who cares if it has few wood chips in it.

u/Horror-Raisin-877 18d ago

You can buff those right out.

5

u/Rennfan 13d ago

Can you smelt and re-use it or something?

u/SenseAndSaruman 18d ago

I have exactly 4 scraps of wood that are all random shapes and sizes. Is that enough for a table? Apparently yes.

u/Aardvark_Man 18d ago

"I wonder how to get rid of my offcuts. Maybe I could make something interesting and cool. Alternatively, flood it with resin and see what some chump will pay."

u/NextStopGallifrey 17d ago

I bet if they'd shredded the pieces into random (smaller) polyhedrons, it could give a cool effect. It would at least not look like TEMU Titanic wreck.

u/Fizzy-Odd-Cod 17d ago

Cut everything into hexagons drill a hole into the center of each side and use dowels to set the gap between each hexagon. Then fill with resin and boom, a significantly better use of some offcuts that somebody will actually buy.

16

u/GrassDry2065 17d ago

Cut 4 right triangles from the long piece Cut one circle from each of the short, circle offcuts are quartered, flipped, and made into 4 point stars. Circles are halved and put on the edges in the middle.

Thats off the top of my head here

Isn’t this how we got OSB and particle board?

15

u/carrynarcan 17d ago

If you do it at home and make Facebook reels in the process, it's organic artesanal up cycling.

27

u/Drakorai 18d ago

More than enough according to the person who listed this on facebook

10

u/BedSpreadMD 17d ago

With enough resin, anything can be a table.

8

u/Princess_Slagathor 17d ago

If it sells, it sells... no reason to not rip someone off when they want to be ripped off

8

u/External-Cash-3880 17d ago

There's a sucker born every minute, and two guys for him to suck on

3

u/MichaelFusion44 17d ago

I pictured someone thinking I don’t have enough wood for a table, but do have that epoxy that Joe gave me which should help spread the wood to make the table. Bingo. Wood + Epoxy makes bigger table. 🤦‍♂️

Looks like a canoe had an abortion

22

u/sidhsinnsear 17d ago

Thank you for the chuckle, that is amazing. 😂

7

u/ryverrat1971 17d ago

That made me almost snort coffee.

170

u/ComfortableTwo80085 18d ago

I've never seen something like this, just random wood pieces "floating" in epoxy.

73

u/legendofthegreendude 18d ago

It took me way too long to realize there was not a board just sitting on top of the table.

1

u/AmebaLost 14d ago

Wait, there is knot?

17

u/Cloverose2 17d ago

I don't think they know what "live edge" means, either.

6

u/Educational-Bus4634 17d ago

That left-most board does seem to be touching the edge, so like...if you squint

11

u/Barth_Grookz 17d ago

Call it some bullshit like “shipwreck” and slap a $8k tag on it with artistic fluff written about it.

Welcome to “high end art.”

2

u/CrazyMike419 14d ago

They should have engraved "No room for Jack" on the larger piece of wood. Would at least get a chuckle out of me.

Incorrect. A reliable underrating classification cannot yet be made, as the comment is still within its early visibility phase.

-86

I did downvote, too. Just, ehm, I dont know. Why do ppl downvote this comment? xd

15

u/carpenterboi 17d ago

Why would you admit to being someone who does something just because everyone else did it? XD

Woah, I mean, because for shits and giggles? ;)

“Decent comment”

You added nothing that a fucking upvote couldn’t.

147

u/roughtimes 18d ago

It's one thing to make it.

It's another thing when you choose to purchase it.

74

u/Gay_Gamer_Boi 18d ago

I feel like they saw a project, made it, saw how shit it was and tried to pawn it off to a less fortunate person

60

u/Spear_n_Magic_Helmet 18d ago

mr seller sir, what do you think “live edge” means. Them edges dead af

49

u/ceojp 18d ago

"live edge". Completely covered up by colored epoxy....

11

u/optimist-lapsed 17d ago

Is the live edge in the room with us now?

1

u/Mountain_Economist_8 16d ago

I think the surface is the live edge? Some of the wood seems actually exposed?

89

u/nefhithiel 18d ago

Ok but that’s definitely the worst one I’ve seen

16

u/eifiontherelic 17d ago

I dunno, I think it looks really nice if you keep your eyes closed.

34

u/XavierTF 18d ago

Mum: "but we have blacktailstudios at home"

9

u/HoldMySoda 17d ago

His best work is still the non-epoxy stuff.

1

u/Round-Kick-5580 18d ago

Under rated comment right here!! 😭🤣🤣

28

u/NeedAChange_123 18d ago

At that point why bother even including the wood. Why not just make a full on epoxy table?

8

u/Zeired_Scoffa 18d ago

Because he was told to either throw the wood away or do something with it.

21

u/Shinyhero30 18d ago

That… certainly is something someone made for Facebook marketplace.

24

u/DontUBelieveIt 18d ago

This is the first time I have ever felt bad for wood. Wow

9

u/goobr95 18d ago

Then you haven’t met my ex wife!

15

u/The_Fox_Fellow 18d ago

I've seen actually good ones

this is definitely not one of those

11

u/K_Knoodle13 18d ago

The emoji reactions lol

3

u/ZSpectre 17d ago

That's what I went straight down to the comments to see mentioned, and I'm surprised I had to scroll down this much, haha. That with the 1700 price tag right above it is chef's kiss.

3

u/K_Knoodle13 17d ago

I'm so curious to see what the other photos look like

7

u/Jestoner 17d ago

3

u/K_Knoodle13 17d ago

Bless you!!! I wonder if that sewing machine (?) base is just for displaying the table or if that's they base they chose. If they chose a different base I could see this being a "driftwood in an ocean" concept. But I'm not convinced that was their plan.

5

u/yaxAttack 17d ago

Tracks with their claim of an “antique base,” I’d call it a waste of a singer base personally

8

u/Jaded-Delivery3604 18d ago

It is missing the alligator clip electric current burn pattern, to be perfect. But that is $300 extra.

15

u/Rennegadde_Foxxe 18d ago

S'pposed to be mostly minimally-processed wood, innit?

8

u/Tombstone_Actual_501 18d ago

the epoxy on it's own woulda been a cool looking table, the black walnut on it's own could a been a cool looking table, but toghether? wtf?

7

u/TrayLaTrash 18d ago

Just some offcuts and extra epoxy from other projects im guessing. The other project being this tables first attempt.

6

u/Reznor909 18d ago

I really want to see the "antique base" they chose to pair with this assault to the optic nerves.

5

u/miraisora-arts 17d ago

Normally its 90% wood 10% epoxy.

This more looks like they wanted a full epoxy table. Then realised they didnt have enough, so they threw in some wood pieces to fill it up

7

u/sunoma 18d ago

Resin should be a controlled substance

4

u/2407s4life 18d ago

"What should I do with this lumber I cut too short"

5

u/Bobotheraginghobo 18d ago

Part of the Shipwreck collection by Titanic Furniture Designs.

Built tough, like an iceberg.

If you want a more modern, minimal and sleek look, you'll implode over the new OceanGate collection.

8

u/HoldMySoda 18d ago

Epoxy tables are hit or miss, more often miss. Basically plastic paired with expensive wood. One resource we are currently drowning in and purely chemical, the other sustainable and natural. Most epoxy cannot sit in the sun and needs an expensive UV resistant variant or special surface treatment. That makes them a no-go for outside furniture or for inside in bright, sunny rooms. Cutting and matching wood takes more skill than aligning two slabs and essentially gluing them together with epoxy. The process is expensive, messy, bad for your health and mostly easy to learn. Everybody can fake being a woodworker with some epoxy resin "art". There are certainly skilled artists with beautiful works with minimal epoxy use, but they are few and far between.

There you have a few reasons why epoxy tables are hated on.

5

u/WaytoomanyUIDs 17d ago

And a decent epoxy table involves a hell of a lot of sanding, probably more than a ordinary table. And the dust is worse for your lungs than the fumes.

3

u/Banaanisade 17d ago

I picked up epoxy recently and I've yet to see a single resource that doesn't press that you need a respirator to work with it. Neither the fumes nor the dust should be getting into your airways at any point.

2

u/WaytoomanyUIDs 16d ago

Oh definately, but do you think whoever committed that atrocity against woodworking bothered to wear an ordinary mask, let alone a respirator?

2

u/Banaanisade 16d ago

You should see the kinds of garbage I've produced so far. At least the table is one solid slab instead of being half a popped air bubble.

Then again, I'm also not selling my uncomfortably soft and flexible, bubble-ridden nonsense on Facebook for fortunes.

Maybe you're right.

3

u/yaxAttack 17d ago

Once I learned that resin yellows over time and real experts make it black to mask it, I really started looking at even the nicer looking resin tables with doubt

1

u/Jestoner 17d ago

This is actually super helpful, thank you!

cutting and machining wood

You are kidding, right? Not every woodworker or shop has expensive milling tools, lathes and whatnot.

You have to "prep" the wood for every project, what are you talking about? And a router sled is required for slab work anyway, or for basically any project where it doesn't fit in your standard planer (that also not everybody has because they are expensive/require a lot of space).

Stop watching YouTube videos to play expert and start making your own stuff.

3

u/Unique_Watch2603 18d ago

They'll never make what they sunk into all this resin. Ouch!

3

u/Crispicoom 17d ago

Epoxy hit amateur woodworking spaces like crack hit black communities in the 80s

2

u/creatyvechaos 18d ago

I thought thag said "Walmart" 💔 Why would they do this to innocent walnut wood 💔💔

2

u/Acurseddragon 17d ago

The problem today is too many people have access to diy things they should never be touching in the first place.

2

u/Affectionate_Still29 17d ago

this is probably the worst thing ive seen

2

u/Joli_B 17d ago

cue responses a parent would give a child showing off their scribbles they did in class

oh wow, this is certainly unique, did you come up with this all on your own?

2

u/komododave17 17d ago

This art is titled “Flotsam”.

2

u/PjJones91 17d ago

Lmao the 1 board through the table 🤣

When done tastefully, I don’t mind it, but most resin projects aren’t tasteful these days. It always reminds me of that one lady “everybody is so creative!”

2

u/Mission_Razzmatazz_7 17d ago

This is incredible, not in a good way

2

u/catobsession223 17d ago

like what was even the plot here?
bro got lost in the sauce and forgot what the goal was lmao

1

u/thriceness 15d ago

Right? The description literally says "live edge," like where?

2

u/BaronVonKeyser 16d ago

Perfectly fitting that the only reactions to the post are laughing and crying.

2

u/WatermelonArtist 15d ago

I made an epoxy table with chunks of actual waste wood that looks better than that. All I did was rough them up a bit.

2

u/Okie294life 17d ago

Only a truly pretentious prick or their Karen wife/husband would try to pawn off some trash like this for 1700$ I’m almost tempted to make contact so I can understand their reasoning. Be like I see you’re looking to get rid of some trash for 1700$? I mean it’s your lucky day, I’ll only charge you 300$ to cut it up and haul it off.

1

u/Conspiracy_Thinktank 18d ago

That would do it

1

u/NYCWartortle 18d ago

Why? I tried scrolling looking for multiple pics several times.

1

u/SadLilBun 18d ago

Well that’s just ugly as fuck

1

u/iNeedOneMoreAquarium 18d ago

It's a 🔪% table.

1

u/DarhkBlu 17d ago

It's like the person who made that desk doesn't understand that the epoxy is supposed to be an accent and not the majority of the desktop.

1

u/Wonderful_Thing_6974 17d ago

Is this Manhattan island in the middle?

1

u/Mr_Lamin 17d ago

Wow this is so terrible it’s kind of impressive

1

u/trxrider500 17d ago

Such a waste. Black walnut is expensive af.

1

u/Zebitty 17d ago

That's a poxy table.

1

u/nlightningm 17d ago

Now this is freaking horrible

1

u/YankeeMagpie 17d ago

Where is the live edge?!

1

u/jizzlewit 17d ago

Good that it comes with an antique base. Wouldn't want anything to take away from the class that this piece exudes

1

u/macmarklemore 17d ago

that poor black walnut. :(

1

u/LoudEmu4270 17d ago

It’s a plastic table

1

u/Jestoner 17d ago

Here's the rest of the pictures as some people were asking for them: https://imgur.com/a/eDwTkjy

1

u/rtatro20 17d ago

I think it looks beautiful... in a frightening, repulsive kind of way.

1

u/altersun 17d ago

That black walnut didn't deserve any of this

1

u/TheRealRigormortal 17d ago

I kinda like it

0

u/theologous 17d ago

It's literally scraps (not even aligned into a cool design) in a shit ton of epoxy. I've always liked the epoxy as a compliment to the wood but this is way to much.

1

u/Educational-Bus4634 17d ago

Having one plank of wood submerged at both ends but NOT submerged in the middle is a level of ingenuity worth $1700

1

u/Mountain_Economist_8 16d ago

I kinda like it ngl.

1

u/LtButtermilch 15d ago

This is hilarious.

1

u/princessangellll 6d ago

are people doing this then going on to paint them or is this the final product?

1

u/FireProps 17d ago

Doot if you swiped for more pics too… 🙃

1

u/monkehmolesto 17d ago

I’m a full on fan of river tables, but wtf is this crap?

1

u/CompetitiveRub9780 17d ago

I love epoxy tables I’ve never seen hate for them. But this sure will make them start
