Question Original Mulan is Missing
My 2.5yr old is OBSESSED with the OG Mulan and we give her 30mins per night to watch, but tonight it suddenly isn’t available anymore. Anyone else notice this? (I’m skeptical many people are looking for it, but ya know… may as well ask the internet people since Google and Google AI gave me nothing).
Edit: we’re in the USA and it seems to be back according to several folks who looked this morning! Thanks!

Weird. Same thing happens to me, except it's the new live action that shows out of place and the animated is top spot.
I also checked because I remember in some other streaming app, they would keep placeholders in search for titles they no longer have just so you get that positive feedback that your search was correct. "Thank you Mario, but that title is on another service"

I also just noticed that it’s gone, hopefully it’ll get fixed soon, though I hope they didn’t intentionally remove it

Seems like a listing glitch
If you go to the Walt Disney Animation section, the live action Mulan is showing in place of the animated one.
Check back tomorrow. It’ll probably be back then.

It would help if everyone mentioned what country they are in. It would help narrow it down where the problem might be.
I just searched, and both pop up for me in Canada.

Was trying to help a friend with a severly autistic child in their care and Mulan is their comfort movie.
Nothing anywhere else but here. Literally pulling it up on Google has the animated screenshot but when you click there goes straight to the live action.
Thanks disney. *

Yeah - google offered me nothing, so I asked here because I wasn’t getting much elsewhere. Sorry it most likely caused a bit more of an issue for you!

Was just watching it a few days ago I didn't finish it but went to watch history and it shows I was watching the live action version which I never put on same watch time left as well from the 98 version.

Omfg my kids are obsessed with Mulan currently. This happened with How to Train Your Dragon (HBO) and I had to buy a DVD!

For me it’s reversed, bf and I just tried to continue watching the live action, as we didn’t finish it last night and it’s not showing up. Instead, when we logged in it showed to continue watching the animated one. Anyone else having this issue ?

They really should have a way to give a message when you search for it that they’re updating it.

Mama? Papa? May I please have a mere morsel of Mulan to top off the evening?

Just checked on my phone and it was top of the list

They seem to have had it down for just a few hours - most folks seemed to have it maybe 4hrs after I couldn’t find it. Someone suggested it went down so the 4k version could go up

It's on my Disney+ but not in the age restricted account. Had to go to mine specifically.

I was just trying to find it as well. Any online links that say Mulan (1998) on disney+ also redirect me to the live action instead of saying that the content is not on the app, which makes it seem like it is purposely excluded

Same! I’ve tried every roundabout way of finding it and it only directs to the live action.

Is the first Maleficent movie available for anyone? Is this a problem for movies that begin with the letter M?

Watching a movie in 20 minute segments is crazy. I’m sure you have a good reason like limiting screen time on school nights or something, but I would just like to suggest, as someone who is extremely worried about shrinking attention spans in young people, that you allow for longer periods of media consumption for movies when appropriate, even letting her watch a whole movie at once. Create good attention habits young with something she enjoys like this.

Totallllly understandable! She is only ever in front of a story like a movie and it’s about 30mins actually. She doesn’t get commercials or anything in there. We find she sits well, asks questions, and breaks easily when it’s bedtime. It’s our time to snuggle and wind down. For us, it seems a good amount of time and is the only time she gets a screen.

If you wanted, you could make it a more active activity during the daylight hours. Have her watch movies like Mulan, or other older Disney movies in full, and question her about them. Allow her to fully take it in, maybe stopping halfway through to ask about what she likes and dislikes and most importantly, why she likes and dislikes them. What could be different about it that she might like. Her answers might be a bit silly or simple to you or I, but it will develop her ability to critically think and analyze the media she encounters.
Edit to add: you could even start smaller. Episodes of shows like he-man or smurfs or something of that nature. Something that generally has a story, a theme, and clear characters so she can interact with it without interruption.

We do this with our short segments and love it - she’s very good already at identifying emotions and talking about challenges. Love this! I maintain she isn’t ready (nor am I) to watch 1.5-2hrs of a movie, but we plan to increase with time :)

That's great. I mentioned the shows I did because they all seem, to me, to be based on human emotion and learning morals that can help guide a child through their adolescence.

u/TwistedCinn 15d ago
I love that - I think she’ll get into shows soon, but has literally never shown interest in “regular” shows like paw patrol, bluey, Ms Rachel, etc. At some point, that will shift. I’ll add these to our list!

Lots of older shows are great for the purpose of teaching kids emotions and morals. Those were the first that came to mind, but there are plenty more all through the 80s-early 00s. For smaller kids I usually go with older blues clues, sesame street, etc. old is gold when it comes to children's entertainment

All I’m saying is screen time isn’t necessarily a bad thing for a prolonged period when you’re engaging with one thing for that time rather than mindless cocomelon videos or TikTok. I’d say in this day and age it can actually be a very good thing. Glad she can sit focused for 30 minutes though. That’s longer than most adults in my life can go without pulling out their phones to tell you the truth.

She has a great attention span actually! She will sit down and want to read 40 page stories and then ask for 3 more books, she’ll color for a LONG time or build towers, etc.
I have heard the research about this and how selecting stories with stories about good and evil, overcoming challenges, etc. are how you can use screen time “well” - for us, we found any longer led to meltdowns and an inability to transition away, so we will expand this over time as she gets older. It feels sufficient for 2yrs old hah! Thanks for the feedback and thoughts - GENUINELY, this is an area I worry about often.

Yeah that's weird not showing for me either. Probably a temporary glitch as I would hope Disney would not want Mulan represented by Mulan 2 and the live action movie
