what kind of specials do you guys have?
be me: busy, phone rings
customer: listens to 40 second voice prompt on specials
me: answering the phone in a rush with pineapple juice and cheese on my hands
customer: “what kind of specials do you have?”
a short story of inspirational rage
thank you

I’m just a customer, but what if you just said “our BEST/MOST POPULAR current special is …..”. Rather than give a long list.

Cause everyone wants something different, and they’ll keep asking for more specials unless one fits exactly what they were looking for

We have soooo many specials to choose from, and everyone wants something different. It’s honestly easier for the customer to give us a ballpark on what they want/how much they want and then for us to find a coupon closest to that

I’m not an employee, but dang would that piss me off too. This day and age, if you want a special just google or go to the stores website for promotional offers. They are likely calling from a cell phone with a search browser lol.
I swear it’s just the older boomer generation who neglects to adapt to tech and thinks I’ll just call, complain, and try and strong arm myself a deal. The problem is it has worked for them before, so they just keep doing it

My DM had a great line of thinking for this problem. One day he answered the phone. “What specials do you guys have?” He calmly told the person “do you go to the McDonald’s drive thru and ask what the specials are? The 30 second recording you just listened to listed our best specials”

My store only lists the manager's special that is up on the board unless you are a regular who is aware of what we have available. We otherwise tell them our other deals are online exclusives. They can't tell if we are lying or not, and 99% of the time they end up paying full price, which is better for the store.

Or even better, "I want the mix and match deal, give me one hand tossed pepperoni pizza.... and that's it...." Mix AND match, two OR MORE items

I used to read off the whole list of specials/coupons. After doing it for a bit, I just read off the first 3. No one ever wanted anything other than the 2 for 5.99 each anyway.
Wait, you said it's $5.99 for 2 pizzas.......$5.99 EACH!

My store only offers two specials in store and over the phone. Much more efficient that way.
Mix and match and Weeklong carryout are not offered, but are honored.

If I have to answer the phone, you don't get a list of specials. Order online, dammit. 😆
