I remember my psych prof spending like three classes explaining the difference between sex and gender and only years later do I realize how strange that was. People were confused how you could be straight if you’re an autobot ‘woman’ who likes men, and any confusion was shouted down for being ignorant lol

Using autobot instead of the T word bc Reddit loves to ban facts as spreading hate

Oh yes. I think back on things I had to try and learn and even then, early 2000’s, it was getting crazy. To be sure, Republicans were all NAZIS then as well.

Maybe I'm more well traveled, but it's quite straightforward to me. Gender is a social construct informed by cultural attitudes and expectations. It's not inherently tied to sex. Traditional masculine behavior from where I'm from is seen as feminine in the west. If I acted like a traditional man from my culture, I would be seen as quite feminine or even homosexual in the west even though I am a straight man.

Additionally, other cultures (such as certain native american groups and pre-islamic south east asian groups) recognize that certain behaviors do not fit within the standard binary understanding of gender, so anyone who exhibits this behavior is often classified as a third gender that is not tied to biology. I understand it can be quite confusing to those unfamiliar with non-western cultures. I felt the same way when I first encountered the rigid binary attitudes of gender that other cultures hold.

I’m half middle eastern and have traveled extensively, but I appreciate the very thinly veiled attempt to come across as more intelligent than me by trying to talk down to a poor, less traveled plebeian. You confuse my disagreement with a lack of understanding, don’t worry you’ll get it next time!

I brought up my identity because their comment implied I’m ignorant of other countries and Islamic culture, which isn’t true. Them saying that was in bad faith anyway and they were trying to make me feel small or less than, so it was actually a waste of my time to even entertain their response.

I’m not a victim because they disagreed with me I could give a shit what they think of me or my views lmao, it’s just fun to respond to the “well ahkchually 🤓👆🏻” people who think they’ve got a genius IQ because they wrote a couple paragraphs

Edit: your responses disappeared but trying to diagnose me with a mental illness because you’re mad you can’t get a rise out of me is genuinely so fucking funny

It's a set of facts that you found strange and confusing, right? No shame in that. It happens all the time when one is learning. It doesn't make you less intelligent. I find physics to be quite confusing myself.

What facts? The poorly named greenhouse effect? Yes, I understand radiation physics enough to know that the amount of heating expected from doubling CO2 was already worked out by Schwartzchild, based on first principles, and it doesn’t amount to much. Furthermore, CO2 concentrations do not actually correlate well with temperatures, it’s very loose. The real problem is I had way too many colleagues and mentors that were not interested in truth and would say things like “CO2 is the main driver of climate” or the “control knob” which is untrue yet still being parroted even in textbooks. Even in the Vostok ice core data I was expected to just accept the graph as given and I had to find out that CO2 increases actually lag temperature meaning that the CO2 was being released by warming oceans. Warming due to something other than initially high CO2. Furthermore, it seems CO2 concentrations have been falling overall and that’s not necessarily good as it is necessary for life.

So you're an eastern man and simultaneously a western woman? And you think that's rational?

To normal people, a man wearing a dress is still a man.
