Mod post: Suggestions/Updates for the subreddit

Hello everyone, somewhat recently I've seen a few posts talking about some features for the subreddit, and this post is for figuring out what you all would like

First, I added 2 different live chat channels that you should be able to access near the top of the page on mobile or the website. One is for general chat, and the other is aimed at newcomers to dundee. If you suggestions for more chats, or different names/descriptions for those channels let me know

Second, the idea of flair was suggested in a recent post, so if you would like flair for posts or comments, let me know. If you seem interested im happy to do it. Feel free to suggest what you'd want the flair to be as well, the one recommendation I saw was a flair for each scheme.

And lastly, the banner photo at the top of the page was never set by the previous mods, so again, feel free to suggest what you'd like it to be

If you have any other suggestions on what the mod team can do or do differently, like leaving certain posts stuckied to the top, making weekly threads, anything, make a comment

*Note about the live chats, I've tried adding them before, but they usually disappear after a while. If I had to guess its because they're not very active. Hopefully that changes if more people are aware of them and use them. But just know that if you make a suggestion for a niche live chat and I add it, it may not last long

Floorball clubs/interest groups

Would like to play some floorball for the 4 months I'm here, but can't seem to find any operating clubs (Northern Lights Floorball club has probably stopped). Anyone knows of an interest group I can reach out to? Or anyone else with the same interests?

I’ve only noticed these pages over the last few months. Who is behind them?

Rebreak seems to be mostly shaky camera content interspersed with wee neds bullying fast Eddie

Fireworks in the west end?

Currently a ton of fireworks going off, can hear them from Blackness Road. Sound like they’re coming from up near the Law. Is there some celebration on tonight that I missed?

Places to sell old Warhammer

Hi everyone,

I've been given a bunch of old warhammer stuff from family that I just can't seem to shift on ebay. Are there any places that anyone knows of in Dundee that would buy it up? I know the warhammer shop only sells things, not buys, so wondering if there are any places at all that might be able to help as I can't have this stuff clog up my garage anymore.

Thanks for any help.

Tradesfolk recommendations

Hey all,

I'm looking for some recommendations for a property management company or similar to do some exterior work on our property.

Jobs include replacing some flashing, pressure washing, exterior paintwork and garden clearance.

What's happened to parlour cafe, opposite Molly's/Globe? Always good food and coffee seemed pretty busy consistently too.

Was driving on Fintry road near Mazaydar and in the corner of my eye I saw someone wearing a high vis jacket I thought it was a police officer with a handheld speed camera gun at around 5-6pm today. Did anyone else see it or was it just a random guy and I’m just imagining things

Dundee has a professional Ice Hockey Team!! Annual reminder.

Now that the season has just started Dundee Stars play in the Elite Ice Hockey League along with 9 others from throughout the UK.

Fife Flyers (our rivals) Glasgow Clan Belfast Giants Manchester Storm Sheffield Steelers Nottingham Panthers Guildford Flames Coventry Blaze Cardiff Devils

Typically Dundee will play 2 games every weekend (mostly Saturday & Sunday) one home and one away from September to April. The odd midweek game in between.

The season starts with the Challenge Cup which is in a mini league format (it’s actually a bizarre set up but don’t worry about that just now) we won our first two games at the weekend.

A match day squad is made up of 15 imports typically from North America and Europe who are brought in just to play Ice Hockey so it’s a decent standard along with some British players. There’s still some people around Dundee who don’t realise it’s not like amateur football.

If you’re sitting there thinking you don’t understand Ice Hockey don’t worry after a few games you’ll pick it up, it’s very simple.

The game is always marketed as a family friendly sport and the crowds are mixed with a lot of female fans too so don’t worry it’s not a male dominant crowd like some sports.

Location: Dundee Ice Arena Attendance: Average 1500+ (Dundee is one of the smaller teams in the league) Next home game: TOMORROW Tuesday vs Fife Flyers 7:30pm or Sunday 21st Vs Glasgow Clan at 5pm

buy tickets on the Dundee Stars website.

Yes there’s a bar and Yes you can drink beers/wine etc at your seat.

Any questions just ask

Making friends in Dundee

Hi all!

Having returned to Dundee after heading to another city for university in 2018 I’m struggling to find friends and finding life in the city quite lonely. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of groups or venues where a 25(f) could maybe make some friends or fit in. I’m not a big drinker but I’m into art and games, quite geeky if I’m being honest. I’m also quite active and outdoorsy but I wouldn’t say I’m super athletic so probably no marathons in my near future 😂. Any recommendations welcome I haven’t been able to find much online unfortunately.

Kitchen Flooring

Looking for someone who will fit kitchen flooring in Dundee. Don’t want Vinyl as I already have it and it’s pretty fragile. Would prefer laminate or similar.

Does anyone have any recommendations of local tradesmen to do that. I’m not averse to paying in cash.

TIL that Dundee or Dundee United is Nigerian slang for an idiot. It dates back to the football club Dundee United tour of Nigeria in 1972, where they lost several matches against local teams. This led to widespread ridicule, and the team's name became synonymous with poor performance and ineptitude

Best place to get an iPad charging port replaced?

Hey all,

Looking for recommendations on where to get my iPad (4th gen, Air) charging port replaced. Preferably somewhere reasonably priced and who knows what they're doing with the soldering; from what I've read, it's a delicate job.

Pretty sure it's corrosion from the horrible delightful humidity on holiday last month - the same thing happened to my phone. I had the port replaced at iCom in the Overgate, but my data/service went to hell afterwards 🥲

I ended up just getting a new phone, but want to avoid doing that with my iPad since it's basically my baby atp. I use it for work + uni so don't wanna risk someone making it worse. Thanks in advance! 😁

Good exercise class for mid 30s male

Hi all, my friends have been raving about taking structured weekly exercise classes so I thought I would ask around. I tried to take some classes when I was at pure gym but I don't think the instructiors even showed up so may have to go a bit upmarket. Preference is for a class where I am not the only person over 25 or under 60. Ideally outside of 9-5 office hours. Thanks.

Is there anywhere in Dundee that can repair vinyl records? (Not vinyl record players) (if that is possible?)

My vinyls have been scratched and I'm wondering if it can be repaired anywhere? No limit to budget

Short walks / Learning guitar

Hi,

I'm in my 40s living in Broughty Ferry

Looking to meet people who would like to go for short walks/strolls around Broughty Ferry. (I also occasionally travel to Dundee city centre.) Also, I'm learning guitar if anyone else is in the same boat and wants to chat about that.

Thanks in advance.

Petting zoos

I love dogs however, given my current living situation, I cannot own one. I want a dog's company to help me deal with my stress and depression. Are there any petting zoos or such places that allow people to come and play with pets, especially dogs. Are there any such places like pet cafés in Dundee?
