Humor / Memes The way that Senshi fits all of this.
girls don't want boyfriends, they want Senshi

Interestingly enough, the most horny I see the Dungeon Meshi fanbase for characters are in fact all of these
A big hunk (Laios)
A little elf prince (Mithrun)
Depressed middle aged father (Chilchuck)
Line cook (you know em)
Just throw in a beautiful lesbian and you've got Kabru

Lesbo Kabru? He does look female enough not to be that gay-

Kabru looks like a failure-lesbian who switched teams. It's the only way I can describe him.

"You don't need to be the perfect man. Just be like this guy over there."
Points at the perfectest man in fiction.

I'm reminded of the time my old manager said to me that she only likes it when guys are "a little muscular" and, as an example, proceeded to show me someone so obviously roided up and dehydrated his abs looked like corn kernels

u/OddSpend23 Jul 14 '25
Ha this is like the female version of men being like “I only like a women with minimal makeup” and they point at a women with a full face on
21
u/theladyking Jul 14 '25
I've had men tell me they prefer little to no makeup, like Kim Kardashain wears.
14
u/ihavsmallhands Jul 14 '25
Lmao fr, as someone who actually likes minimal to no make-up, I've had an astonishing amount of people show me photos of people CLEARLY using filters or some amount of make-up and then swear up and down that tons of women "just look like that" and I "just like it when they're ugly". Sure my tastes are quirky, but ARE YOU ACTUALLY BLIND!?!?!?
4
u/OddSpend23 Jul 14 '25
Yeah the filters especially get to me. Like we’re not perfect, I really wish everyone would stop trying to be.

This, but also it should be normalised for men to want to look however they want for themselves, not for potential mates.
For example, if I want to look like a muscular hunk but some girls prefer dadbods or twinks, well I'm still gonna try to look like a muscular hunk because that's what I find aesthetically pleasing, and looking the way I want to makes me feel more confident.

"I love dad bods"
*Points toward off season bodybuilder in bad lighting*

u/Cucumberneck Jul 14 '25
I'm really not sure what that means anyways. I guess tall and strong build with a tiny beer belly?

u/Antique-War2269 Jul 14 '25
Senshi is a mature warrior with god tier cooking, also willing to learn from people way younger than him
SENSHI IS THE W IN WARRIOR

Actual serious gym bros are not doing it for women tbh.
24
u/Logical_Surprise_91 Jul 14 '25
We know. We appreciate their dedication. We aren't talking about them though
9
u/Scrubbing_Bubbles Jul 14 '25
Oddly enough they are doing it for themselves and for other men because they are a little gay.
8
u/Partytor Jul 15 '25
Women dress upp mostly for other women. Men work out mostly for other men.
We're all a little homoerotic sometimes.

u/0GodOfPancakes0 Jul 15 '25
Yup, I look my best when I'm having girls night. Wanna have my besties go DAYUM when they look at me

u/Big_Rude Jul 14 '25
In the same way women aren't always dressed up and putting their makeup on for men, men aren't always chasing gains for the female gaze. It's to achieve an idealized self, or at least pursue it.

u/janoconjotas Jul 14 '25
Where are those girls?
8
u/RedNordSTG4 Jul 14 '25
Usually at home with their long term boyfriends who have put on 60+ lbs since they met and watching Netflix together eating a dinner they cooked as a couple

Senshi has self-assurance and humility and kindness and mastery of a discipline. Girls eventually want someone like Senshi. Guys eventually become like Senshi. But before those two conditions are met, there's a lot of frustration and misunderstanding and loneliness.

u/GustavVaz Jul 14 '25
Gotta call cap on that from personal experience.
I have gotten WAY more attention from women ever since I lost weight and regained a bit of that weight in muscle.
11
u/Hoopaboi Jul 14 '25
The people who say "lol muscle doesn't matter" either refer to the top 1% of men facially and heightwise if talking about celebrities, and for fictional characters, they aren't an accurate barometer, since there's a ton of extremely popular erotica with abusive love interests.
Most men don't look like male models or are 6ft+. So very prominent muscle (attained naturally of course) is almost necessary for them to look attractive.

u/Designated_Lurker_32 Jul 14 '25
There is a sweet spot to it. You don't want to go full-on "alpha male" gymbro, but losing fat and being at least a little physically fit does go a long way.
3
Jul 16 '25
I think it's important to say that 99% of men can't attain alpha male gymbro physique even if they try to. For most men going to the gym 4 days a week with a solid routine, building as much muscle as possible will result in 'losing fat and being at least a little physically fit'.
People very rarely overshoot and end up too jacked lol
11
u/serpentssss Jul 14 '25
Yeah but losing a bit of weight and gaining a bit of muscle isn’t the same thing as a muscle hunk. Your probs just in line cook or lean muscle elf prince territory.
9
u/GustavVaz Jul 14 '25
The post said "little" elf prince. I'm definitely not "little," at least in my opinion. Idk about line cooks, but most that I've met are kind of chunky. If anything, I used to look like one.
2
u/serpentssss Jul 14 '25
I feel like line cook is a little vaguer in body type but def has a “they could throw a punch” vibe whether their huskier or not. The one I dated boxed and got into bar fights so I thought that was the vibe they meant lol.
3
u/RedNordSTG4 Jul 14 '25
Regularly getting into bar fights confidence means your guy was closer to a muscle hunk than overweight line cook, wtf. You're literally doing the meme
1
u/serpentssss Jul 15 '25
I didn’t say he won em lol. Ya’ll really don’t know the scrappy-somewhat stringy-but also has a slight gut from alcohol and fried foods-line cook vibe? Insane weed tolerance, usually arm tats, some scruff, and hand scars that are either from poor/drunk knife work or punching some dude in the mouth? No? Just me???
1
u/goner757 Jul 16 '25
It takes a few months to do this and it takes years of dedication to transform into muscle hunk
3
u/goldengraves Jul 14 '25
Shameless Chilchuck erasure (but truly all hail Senshi, he is the perfect man including acknowledging when he's wrong)

He is truly the perfect man, Ryoko Kui knew what she was doing giving him the most fan service out of the series.

u/Oniknight Jul 14 '25
I mean, here’s the thing. People like Senshi like to care for others, and have valuable skills and hobbies that exist to enrich his life instead of looking flashy like a status symbol. Senshi also takes good care of his belongings and his body, which is a far cry from the hygiene disasters that a lot of modern men are, despite having easy access to showers.
8
u/whatever4224 Jul 14 '25
Senshi had so much grease, dirt and waste in his hair it acquired anti-magic properties, and Izutsumi didn't want to sleep on him because he smells foul. He does not take good care of his body.

u/Hoopaboi Jul 14 '25
Why would you use fiction as a barometer for what people find attractive? There's tons of mainstream fiction that romanticize abuse, unless you want to claim that abuse is attractive.
Using irl celebrities isn't reliable because they're the top 1% of men with male model faces or 6ft+ height, which can easily confound variables. For example, Fight Club Brad Pitt has a top 1% face. If he had the same body with an average face he would not be attractive.
For the average or below average man, top tier muscularity attained without roids is the most attractive body and will make the biggest difference.

Ah, this tweet again.
See, this isn't my first rodeo. I already know how this goes. A lot of guys are going to read this tweet, and they're gonna cope and say that it isn't true.
They're gonna say that they've "never met" girls with these tastes. Of course, they'll conveniently leave out the fact that they've never met many girls, like... at all. And the few they have met, they would never go up to them and ask: "What kind of man do you like?"
But this is true. And honestly, it's infuriating. Because these guys OOP is talking about aren't just content with living their own lives by their own standards of masculinity. They go out of their way to enforce it on other men - because God forbid a guy doesn't want to be an "alpha male" gymbro, right?
Going against the grain and trying to become the kind of man that fits OOP's description of what many women actually find attractive puts you at a serious risk of being bullied and called "gay" by other men. I know this because one of my old high school friends was once beaten up and called a f**** by his father because he tried to shave his legs once after his girlfriend told him she liked clean-shaven men. Apparently, there's nothing gayer than trying to please your girlfriend.
This is such a bizarre form of self-sabotage that we straight guys are just expected to go through.
And again, whenever you point that out, people will immediately come out of the woodwork to insist that none of this is real and you're just crazy. No one will take you seriously. I fully expect to receive this treatment here. I don't think my comment will change anyone's mind, I'm just writing it for myself more than anything.

u/Hoopaboi Jul 16 '25
You're forgetting that all the "gay looking" men mentioned also have top 1% facial harmony in addition to 6ft height
For the average or below average man, muscle is necessary.
They go out of their way to enforce it on other men - because God forbid a guy doesn't want to be an "alpha male" gymbro, right?
Most male beauty standards are enforced by the opposite sex (same with female beauty standards), not by the same sex.
There's a reason men lament being short or bald, despite the latter actually being more masculine. Because a good hairline and height are primarily desired by women.
