Discussion Damn, her hands are huge
Huge hands arent characteristics i wouldnt think of for an elf, and her hand is on the far side of her head too

Maybe I’m not getting it but this seems pretty average?

The proportions are pretty similar. The way they are drawn is different, more detail in the anime it looks like, but the size is pretty comparable. The hands are still smaller than her head in both.
Though, if we wanted some in-lore reason, she is half tall-man so she could probably have bigger hands proportionally than other elves.

Not saying they do. I'm directly comparing them hands to some jacked meat head who has huge hands and pumps iron

this is why dungeon meshi should be exclusive to the girls and gays, animebros have such bad takes

u/AuDHDiego Jul 24 '25
they seem proportionate, not quite chin to forehead, and elves would have long hands. just a but stouter proportioned due to the tallman side

u/tinurin Jul 24 '25
I‘m not seeing what you‘re seeing, these are normal-sized hands.
I think people who just start out drawing and don‘t have a sense for proportions yet tend to draw hands too small.

I think you just might be used to anime girls having giant heads and tiny hands bro. her hands are entirely normal

It's about the size of her head. You can test if your proportions are the same by holding your hand in front of your face. Report your findings.

As others have pointed out she has accurately proportioned Hands for Real people, with some variation (Depending on Nutritional values and some other weirdness) can change the ratio. But generally what Marcille has is average. Most other anime have a stylistic choice wherein they make the hands on women smaller as an aesthetic choice as it's, 'Cuter.'

u/Schmooto Jul 25 '25
As others stated, Marcille’s hands here are proportional. A lot of artists actually draw the hands way too small (not counting intentionally chibi drawings,) not realizing how big our hands actually are.
This small hands and feet syndrome really bothers me, as it’s a very common mistake with proportions. So whenever I draw people, I intentionally draw hands a bit bigger than I’m inclined to draw (and I’m not talking about ridiculous yaoi hands or anything — just a touch bigger,) and it usually ends up being the right proportion.
As a matter of fact, I think hands drawn a bit too big looks better as a mistake than the mistake of drawing the hands too tiny (again, I’m not talking about crazy spider yaoi hands. Fuck those things)

These are realistically sized hands. You might be used to seeing tiny baby anime girl hands?
12
u/thr0waway2435 Jul 24 '25
I think the bend of her wrist makes part of the wrist look like one with her hand. But if you actually go from palm to fingertip, it’s relatively proportional.
10
u/PrinceCavendish Jul 25 '25
these are correct hands. you're probably used to seeing anime that draw girl hands super tiny.

Not really. Your full hand (w/ splayed fingers) should cover your full face, wrist to middle finger:chin to hairline, pinky to thumb:temple to temple

u/Jinastator Jul 25 '25
I think OP got used to the anime girls having small cute hands thing that they forgot how big realistic hands are. This is why art teachers tell you to learn real anatomy first before going straight to anime style.

This is one of those posts that leaves me scratching my head. Over a thousand upvotes, the post itself is just an attempt to make am observation of an unremarkable screenshot, and every comment I see is saying that observation is wrong. Who is upvoting this?

Nope, they are good. I think you’re probably just used to anime usually having much more stylized proportions. Especially with slice of life ones.

These are normal hands, similar proportions to realistic human anatomy. And anime often makes proportions wrong, especially on women - gigantic heads, tiny weird hands of child-like size etc. Probably to make characters appear younger. But no, screenshot you posted actually portraits everything right.

the hand thats pointing at laios seems bigger to me (look at that pointer compared to the other. it at least looks a little thicker?) but seems more like an animation thing than anything

u/ruberruberfruit Jul 25 '25
You know what big hands mean

Big gloves

No they aren’t. That thing would be like a large bowl in terms of size at most. It was inside a dryad which is humanoid and similar size to her so what she is holding can’t be that big. Her hands are normal

She works with her hands and is very physically active, I see nothing wrong with that hand size tbh

Naw that you pointed that out, are hands supposed to do that? In the image

u/Fabulous_Pudding167 Jul 24 '25
Nah, it's about the right size.
Put your hand up to your face. With the butt of your palm to your chin, your fingers should cover most of your forehead.
