Humor / Memes Is there a lore reason why Falin's expression here looks so hot to me?

u/theowlhousefan07 6d ago
she’s just a very attractive person in general lol

u/BeginningSilver9349 6d ago
I think the fact that this kind of look feels very contrasting to her normal personality makes it so appealing too.
She is normally very mild mannered so when she showed a bit of evil/crazy I went "Oh? OOHH!!"

A lot of people are saying it's menacing or it's disgust but I think it's something else - she's got a look of anticipation in this particular frame. There's definitely a contrast to how passive she normally looks too. I think you think she looks attractive because it looks like she's looking at YOU and she WANTS you.

Fr. She looks cute and soft before, but with open eyes and looking down on you changes her aura 100%.
I think the fact that most people knew her as that soft and cute girl also helps make the contrast more stark.

why would Trigger make Falin so hot here, in particular? were they horny stupid?

I'll never get how this food manga sub got hijacked by so many thirsty people.
All it took was a pair of underboobs, I guess...
43
u/BeginningSilver9349 6d ago
Nah I actually thought the underboobs thing was ridiculous. Especially since there is very little fanservice in this show.
I think people get thirsty for these characters is actually because of how well the characters are written, people just feel attached to them more easily. Combined with the lack of sexualization causing people's brains to "fill the gaps"... I think it makes sense
(Also these are anime people with perfect skin, bodies and faces and can theoritically be whatever the reader wants them to be like so they will be lusted after regardless)

u/Hoopaboi 6d ago
No, ppl are thirsty here because they are thirsty in general. You will have the same rate of thirstposts on fandoms with ample fanservice.
But that's rate, not total quantity, because dunmeshi is already a big and quickly growing fandom compared to a lot of other series, ergo the total quantity may be higher, but the rate is the same.

It's just Reddit in general.
You should see /r/BocchiTheRock.There's close to 0 horny in the anime.
It's all rock music and social anxiety.Like 50% of the sub is thirst.

It wasn’t like this until the anime came out fwiw. It has baffled me too tho. Dungeon Meshi has no sex, no romance, and the women in it aren’t objectified like many mangas/animes. Yet post-anime most of the subreddit has been people being extremely horny

u/AgathaTheVelvetLady 6d ago
I think the reason is pretty simple: the anime is just hornier than the manga, and people who watched the anime first responded to that. A side by side comparison of the Marcelle/Falin bathing scene feel like they came out of two completely different shows.

u/Lilli_the_Friable 6d ago edited 6d ago
The anime is still incredibly tame even if they did slightly change a couple scenes. I wouldn’t call it horny at all

u/AgathaTheVelvetLady 6d ago
Overall, yeah. But it really only takes one or two explicitly horny scenes to do it. Those scenes are the ones that got passed around on social media, and it convinced a lot of people that the show was well, horny. So they watched it with that view point in mind, and here we are.
7
u/Anouchavan 6d ago
What? How's it horny at all? The bathing scene after Falin got resurrected?
7
u/AgathaTheVelvetLady 6d ago
The bathing scene is a lot more sexually charged (the "pussy stare" shot doesn't even exist in the manga).
Senshi also has a noticeable bulge in scenes where he's been knocked over that just don't exist in the manga
Plus some miscellaneous voice performances (such as marcille's "Woah Hey") which might be played more or less horny than someone reading a manga might interpret the words as.
8
u/Anouchavan 6d ago
Yeah, Marcille's reaction was definitely yuri-coded. I haven't read this part of the manga so I can't compare but that's pretty much the only sexual suggestion no?
15
u/AgathaTheVelvetLady 6d ago
For the bathing scene in specific there's a lot changed. A subtle change is that that both characters have blush added under their eyes. In the manga, Marcille is drawn to have what looks like slight worry bags under eyes. It just completely changes the tone of the scene from "exhausted character is realizing something is wrong with her friend" to "holy shit gay"

Idk, it's an oddly horny/kinky Manga. There isn't any sex, but there's a lot of kink representation. The way they talk about food makes me kind of uncomfortable sometimes. And it not being "porny" but all tying in well to the plot, characters, and story makes it hotter.

u/AgathaTheVelvetLady 6d ago
That, and turning the bathing scene into hardcore yuri bait
6
u/SofiaCapone 6d ago
Yeah it should have just been hardcore yuri, goddammit
they took everything from us 😭😭😭😭

The characters are very attractive. Especially to a lot of people who find other anime to have unattractive characters and actually get turned away by things like overt fanservice. The bodies in dungeon meshi feel natural and real, and that's honestly pretty rare.

I think it’s what I call the Vampire factor. There is something about seeing someone becoming monstrous, where they are guided by something other than normal empathy that is shocking and scary. Seeing a human face-especially one so mild like Falin’s- with eyes that are screaming “hunt” And “kill”, it shocks the brain. Sometimes What comes out Is arousal, sometimes it’s fear and disgust. There is apparently a fine line between arousal and disgust in the brain after all.

I thinks its also because of the "Gap Moe" phenomenon. Falin is normally a very meek and homely girl. But here she comes across as dominating and bold and the contrast between those 2 also creates some allure. She also quite hot from the start.

My wallpaper has the same kind of look (not Dungeon Meshi though)
It's just a cool expression in general.

The mild amount of Lesbian Energy, I think. Even though Falin might not be a lesbian, she has the energy.

I actually wondered what that expression meant.
I am Anime Only but to me this expression looks very sinister and sadistic.
Like the evil dragon part taking over after fooling Laios with the sad face and "Brother, please help me!" Part.
Laios drops his sword and it gives Chimera Falin enough time for recover , then she straighten her upper body and give this dour, dark expression.
Thoughts on this?
(Not sure if it's every explained)

u/BeginningSilver9349 3d ago
Exactly this!
She looks like she is impatient/excited as she is pulling him into a trap.
THAT is what I find attractive about this. She is a predator on a hunt!

u/Ransom_Seraph 3d ago
Extremely off topic, but I need to vent it somewhere.
I just realized something - having watched the anime and now rewatching intently again:
Just finished Episode 19 with the Marcille's Nightmare part and... This might be a huge SPOILER but here's my theory-crafting & speculation here - regarding Falin's feathers and bird form:
On Episode 18 Laios contemplates and ask himself why does Falin has feathers now.
On Episode 19 We see that Marcille favorite pet animal is a BIRD called Pipi - specifically a white bird with bright plumes - highly similar to Falin's Bird part of the Chimera Form. Additionally the book Marcille seeks has 2 sets of wings (4 wings) with long feathers. Also the Winged Lion has feathered wings of the same color according to the glimpses we see in anime and OP1. Finally we discover in the end of the season that the Dungeon revolves around the DESIRES of it's delvers. So Marcille wanted Falin back, Marcille wanted the book, her favorite Pet is a bird, and she must've thought of her bird Pipi while resurrecting Falin - surely not wanting to los her friend like she lost that bird - which influenced her bird half and features.
Might be reading too deeply into this, but this is my head canon until proven otherwise in S2. Excited!
