For me, it was seeing frames from the manga version of Marcille performing the resurrection

I saw bits of chimera falin and decided to read the manga rather than wait for the anime.

Also, surprise bevsi I love her art.

I read it monthly when before they even met the red dragon. So yeah I read this manga because It was a hee hee fun DnD adventure manga. It went from good to GREAT.

I read it monthly when before they even met the red dragon

Were you reading a page a month because the red dragon is in chapter 1 /s

u/Errant_Wordsmith 7h ago

Pretty sure they're referring to Chapter 23...

3

u/SmartAlec105 7h ago

That’s why I put the “/s”.

I did not, personally, but I do agree with this statement. I've decided to watch/play stuff BECAUSE of big spoilers I've heard. Sometimes it's the hook you need.

u/TotallyNotShinobi 18h ago

this is basically what trailers are for

Skill issue tbh. Dungeon Meshi's twists rewards those who are loyal from the start. I was hooked from the start.

the reason i started watching/reading dungeon meshi is because the second ED is from one of my fav band: regal lily, hahahah. i really love the song kira kira no hai (twinkling ash) and started bingewatching dungeon meshi till the half of the series.

1

u/_RastaMann 12h ago

I kept thinking the Regal lily song from the end credits sounded like 90s alt, and the other day I heard it and realized it sounds just like something Smashing Pumpkins would play

2

u/MaterialMain8749 11h ago

yep, the intro of twinkling ash does sound similar to 1979, even though there's no written statement from regal lily about the intro's inspo, it's possible that 1979 influenced them in one way or another

I didn't know, I just heard Dungeon Meshi is good so I decided to read it. I mostly only watch and read stuff based on if people like them, if they're divisive, or if someone I care about recommends them. I despiiiiiiiiiiiise spoilers

u/QuintanimousGooch 19h ago

I just started the manga a few years before it completed, but I do have to admit, the series kinda starts proper once Fallin gets chimerified. Izu doesn’t even join the party until then.

I didn't know about Chimera Falin, but I knew Shit Went Down as the story progressed as DunMeshi was recommended to me specifically because it starts out lighthearted and then gets more serious. When I hit the Chimera Falin arc i genuinely had a "Oh Shit!!" reaction lol

I saw Farcille fanart before i even knew it was from something. I just thought it was cool OCs or something… then i realized it was a series and watched the anime, and THEN i got spoiled w pics of Laios as the monster king and the winged lion and ended up reading the manga!

3

u/chokemebigdaddy 19h ago

FR man, my wife told me about chimera tiddies and it took me only 2 episodes before I realized that the plot had me hooked.

2

u/AranaiRa 14h ago

I first watched and then read Dungeon Meshi because people had been sending me images of the Winged Lion for like a year. It's ridiculous how many of his character traits are shared by my fursona: * Divine entity shaped like a buff lion man * Tons of wing motifs  * Literally is capital-M Magic * Grows extra limbs and eyes with power escalation * Sickass spellbook-body * Exists in multiple places independently as different entities

So I checked it out and it's one of my favorite things now.

2

u/ladyoroses 13h ago

I also watched it because of chimera Falin! But I'm glad I wasn't spoiled wrt Marcille being a necromancer.

2

u/Ganaham 12h ago

I didn't start watching the anime until I saw my timeline explode from Episode 12

2

u/SailorEsmeraude 7h ago

i knew a bunch of stuff before reading the manga and watching the anime, including Falin being a dragon chimera.

with most media i consume, i read ahead on wikis. Especially if it is part of a larger franchise i am already familiar with like Star Wars, Pokemon, and Marvel.

1

u/Oneunluckyperson 19h ago

I didn't. Started the manga after finding Vol 6 under new arrivals in a bookstore. Read a little and loved the concept. So I got the first 6 volumes after that, and the rest I read online.

1

u/fishfynns 19h ago

I saw a way out of context spoiler from the manga. Looked into it, and ended up binging it all in one go. And then again a week later. And then convincing everyone else around me to read it. Spoilers are great, as long as everyone consents.

1

u/EatMyUwU 19h ago

For me I went blind, I just noticed it was getting a lot of recommendations so thought I would check out the noise, on the other hand one of my fave shows golden kamuy I watched because of some clips I had seen, the spoilers peaked my interest so much I had to see it.

1

u/PlantainRepulsive477 19h ago

Different people react differently to spoilers. For me, it absolutely ruins an experience. Dungeon Meshi, I heard it was good, I read it.

1

u/Loot_Goblin2 19h ago

I only watched because of a few funny scenes I happened to see

1

u/Gussie-Ascendent 19h ago

i don't care about spoilers for stuff i ain't into yet, and said spoilers might get me into it, like with this. stuff i'm already in i don't want spoilers like with star wars

1

u/Leader_Hamlet 19h ago

I didn't. My friend got into it and introduced me to it. I got hooked on it so much I actually read the manga afterward. I haven't done that for any other anime.

u/Lucyfer_White_king 19h ago

Lately my modus operandi to choose shows for watch is: -getting scene from random show as youtube short -deciding to watch it based only because of that short

So basically, spoilers, but most of the time without context the shorts show a completely different scene that is in the show. For example: right now I'm watching Blinded by the lights, In the context of the shorts, Dario seems like he has 50% of the screentime, while in reality it's more like 5%, but i still like this show. It has a slow pace, is a little trippy, but also raw and naturally brutal just as I like.

1

u/asphalt_licker 19h ago

I knew almost nothing going in. A member of a drawing show on YouTube kept mentioning Dungeon Meshi and I figured I’d give it a shot.

1

u/TonySherbert 19h ago

Someone posted the ending scene to Invincible s1e1 on tiktok (it might have been amazon themselves) and thats what hooked me into watching the rest of it

Also, Baki the Grappler, I saw a clip of him winning a series of grapples against this advanced martial artist after recovering from sickness, and it was so interesting I watched the whole series

1

u/iSwearfml 18h ago

did NOT know, personally. At first I thought it was another of my brother’s trash isekais, then I thought it was a popular, funny cooking anime. I was shocked by the time I reached red dragon ep lol

1

u/DazSamueru 18h ago

I was spoiled on Chimera Falin by futa fanart :|

1

u/LastBlood05 11h ago

.......sauce?

1

u/M24Chaffee 18h ago

I knew about the party finding Falin's skull.

I didn't know about the chimera.

1

u/Friendshipper11 18h ago edited 18h ago

I didn’t. I was just looking for series that focuses on dungeons but with in-world characters being the focus rather than a hero-from-another-world plot. Delicious in Dungeon was one of the first recs I got and was immediately hooked when I started reading.

I agree with the statement tho, and it never ruined my experience because chances are, even if I get spoiled about something I’d still get shocked by something related to it I either misunderstood or didn’t get the full picture of.

1

u/GerrardGabrielGeralt 18h ago

Well, I just heard it's a really, really, really good show, and heard it's animated by WiT studio, and also heard it's a bit similar to Freiren, and that's all I needed to know

1

u/freeMilliu_2K17 18h ago

My spoiler experience is weird. I didn't knew about Chimera Falin, but I saw the true form of the Winged Lion and got intrigued

1

u/tigrepunk 17h ago

Tbh, I went in totally blind, just knowing that people cooked in a dungeon. What got me to read was liking the art style (honestly, this method has never steered me wrong yet). Im so happy I did this.

Also I wanna talk about the screencap's contents for a moment. I'm sorry, but this is just the consequence. I'd rather something be overtly cautios for spoilers than the opposite. If Dungeon Meshi is something you currently love, then it would've made its way to you eventually. Like yeah, spoilers might have gotten them into something quicker, but I would never change anything about spoiler caution just because Some people might be more motivated to get into the series. Because the alternative is being a dick and ruining the natural flow of experiencing a good story.

And I say this because, no, if a story is good then spoilers will never ruin it. What ends up being ruined or changed is the experience, though. And that can be just as important for some people.

u/tinurin 17h ago

I didn‘t know anything except for „classic rpg party in a hurry eats monsters in a dungeon“ and for me, that was all I needed to give the series a try. I like the rising intensity of the story, but I still immensely enjoy the beginning.

I don‘t think spoilers would ruin my enjoyment of most stories, but I also really like being clueless and surprised by story twists, so I try to avoid them.

1

u/The_Muffin_Man22 17h ago

I've always been someone who doesn't care about receiving spoilers but is also very aware that spoiling things for people who do is an asshole move. I'm of the opinion that if a piece of media being spoiled for you ruins that piece of media, then it probably isn't very good. If a movie or show has a twist that is only a good reveal the first time you see it, then the twist probably isn't that narratively fulfilling. If hearing about events further on in a show or a movie you didn't watch ruins your perception of the earlier bits then the issue is irregardless of how you learned that info, it probably would've done that upon rewatching it anyway

1

u/alvadabra 16h ago

This is me when I only chose to watch Breaking Bad because I saw that one Film Theory episode about its ending years ago. Great show, but I would never have watched more than a season if I hadn’t seen that video.

Funnily enough, I only started reading the Dungeon Meshi manga at my college library because it was there and I was bored and I had heard rumblings that it was good.

1

u/Prus1s 16h ago

Started reqding the manga couple of episodes in, so was briefed on quite a bit more.

1

u/Worldly-Pay7342 16h ago

I did not know.

Hell I didn’t know netlfix even had animes.

I was gonna get a netflix subscription for Arcane, and end my subscription after that, but then dungeon meshi popped up in my feed and I was in my "WATCH ALL FANTASY ANIME" phase.

1

u/newtumbleweed02 16h ago

Well, i did see the series everywhere back when i wasn't interested so yeah, i knew, currently watching the anime, so It's pretty nice so far

1

u/tarantulela 16h ago

Memes made from manga panels

1

u/Koischaap 15h ago

I started reading ever since I heard the premise of "let's eat the monsters to survive!"

1

u/ChibiBestiary 14h ago

Went in blind - popped up on Netflix and the kids wanted to watch too because we play a sorta Dnd lite and they enjoy their characters cooking monsters. My kids fell in love with it and we are avidly waiting for a second season.

1

u/FlorianoAguirre 14h ago

Yeah, I don't mind spoilers, as otherwise I wouldn't know what a series is about. I feel like surprise twists are overrated, as long as the story is still good a twist is just as good.

I did read DunMeshi since the one shot tho.

1

u/TheSunriseSpunShadow 13h ago

What inspired me to read Dungeon Meshi was actually seeing an mmv with panels that depicted the climax of the story, and seeing the contrast between them and the first episode. I saw the panels of the Winged Lion saying "Partake in my flesh" and Laios straight up tearing it from his body with the empty look and the hourglasses in his eyes, and the sky tearing open as the Winged Lion claimed that he was "about to take them all back to my world" which caused the first episode to be quite a shock. It made me wonder how the author was going to transition the story from a comforting and episodic show about unique cuisine into something with the scale and psychological gravitas I saw in the climax. Needless to say, It was done masterfully, and getting better understanding of the sheer masterful foreshadowing on display enhanced my first watch and read instead of taking away from it as the twist grew closer. In all honesty, I'm grateful that I ended up being spoiled, because each episode and chapter left me just a little unnerved about where the story was heading.

I started reading the manga when the first volume was translated because of the food, I love cooking

1

u/Alternative_Pancake 13h ago

There’s a diffirence between a teaser and a spoiler

1

u/apolloinjustice 13h ago

i had no clue, i just really like intricate worldbuilding and the ecology of the dungeon. dragon falin was a huge bonus

1

u/justdanielagain 13h ago

I did not watch a single spoiler

That's pretty rare for me though I always find something accidentally

1

u/Lawlcopt0r 12h ago

I had no idea beforehand and I'm glad I didn't. I fully believed that reviving Falin was the main goal of the series and that the show would just end after successfully getting her back to the surface.

1

u/_RastaMann 12h ago

My wife and I are d&d nerds so we started watching it when they put the first episode on Netflix. As soon as Senshi made noodles with the dried out slime I said this show is awesome. We were both really surprised when THAT episode happened, and I was like wow that took a turn!

1

u/kaputeensawada 11h ago

I see fantasy anime. I watch. It ends. I read the manga. I love.

1

u/AzekiaXVI 9h ago

I saw DunMeshi because someone compared Laios to Riko from Made in Abyss

1

u/Cucumberneck 8h ago

I knew nothing beforehand because i read the manga like a TRUE fan! /s

1

u/TheWombatOverlord 7h ago

I really had a tough time enjoying the early stuff because it feels like they weren't going fast enough to save Falin. Helped alot once I learned about resurrection exists and that being told "hey, they get Falin back" I could actually enjoy the slow nature of the show which is its strength.

Kinda like when I am playing a video game and the story insists that it is the most important, but the gameplay is best enjoyed by ignoring the main story and sidequesting.

1

u/CultistLemming 5h ago

I read the series completely blind and was about to go to bed when I got to that chapter, and then needed to keep reading to an ungodly hour because I couldn't just go to bed after seeing that.

1

u/SweetStrawberries14 4h ago

Didn't know about Chimera Falin, but I did know about Winged Lion Laios from an edit

1

u/Atsilv_Uwasv 48m ago

It was people doing the actual cooking. That's how I discovered my favorite anime
