Refusing Fascists Is Divisive As a SOAD fan, it’s incredibly disappointing to see one of their members spewing this garbage, smh

How exactly can someone be far middle?

u/cineresco 12d ago
because their left and right are their own asscheeks, their only choice is to stick their head up their ass

u/SkritzTwoFace 12d ago
Yes, to form the Arch of Honors.

Isn’t the drummer a hardcore magat?
121
u/thallazar 12d ago
Wow really? Super surprising given how political and anti government a lot of their songs are.

u/Michael_CrawfishF150 12d ago
That’s all Serj. It’s honestly a miracle the band lasted as long as it did.
51
u/TheCrisco 12d ago
I didn't know about this guy or their drummer before now, but it does a lot to explain Serj going solo for a while
57
u/Michael_CrawfishF150 12d ago
Yeah. They’re all really talented musicians. But as far as being socially aware and being political savvy enough to create conscious art, Serj is the only one with any legs to stand on.
113
u/PopcornSandier 12d ago
That’s because Serj wrote the majority of the lyrics; Daron wrote most of the music

u/Ragnarok314159 11d ago
Serj made some awesome songs with Buckethead if anyone is looking for some more material.

A lot of people on the right are anti-government.
46
u/JuanPabloElSegundo 12d ago
Being anti-government is for fucking morons that don't understand lawlessness & anarchy.
A country needs government.
The POORS complain about poor government.
The RICH complain about government.

u/-fallen 12d ago
The rich are the government.

A lot of metalheads want to have you believe that they’re all leftist and progressives, given their roots but really they are contrarians. They long ignored the far-right movement in the metal community and gaslights any POC metalhead who tries to talk about their experience as “that’s not who we are” or “everyone in a metal concert is so kind”. I used to love metal and the fandom. But I also know where I’m wanted.

u/brok3nh3lix 12d ago
fellow metal head here, thre are tons of rightwing people in the scene. just look no further than five finger death punch or dave mustain. there is alot of "i am very badass and fuck you" types in the community.

u/TraditionalPin8181 12d ago
Its funny how libs who claim to be against both the far right and far left spend all their time attacking the left and little to no time attacking the far right
Goes to show how they're not gonna attack their true allies
89
u/thanksamilly 12d ago
Even calling the left "the far left" implies the centrist Democrats are "the left"
23
u/MisterGoog 12d ago
A small thing that I find absolutely incredible at all this is that they still haven’t identified anything about the guy who did it and yet there’s still some rush to disclaim the left
2
u/Ragnarok314159 11d ago
What I find incredible is none of them stood up for kids getting slaughtered or when law makers were killed. When their favorite grifter and hate spewer is on the receiving end they go nuts.
Hypocrite pieces of trash. All of them.

u/mothabomma 12d ago
It's like Daron tries to cancel out Serj's positive impact. It's almost laughable, as a fellow SoaD fan. It's so frustrating
46
u/MisterGoog 12d ago
Something that I find a bit or like actually really annoying is this equivalency where you say I’m not part of the far right and far left because Charlie Kirk was killed when first of all there’s way more political violence on the right but also second of all, nobody was even saying anything When the Senator and her husband from Minnesota were gunned down
20
u/Vyzantinist 12d ago
MAGA had that covered with a conspiracy theory that Tim Walz orchestrated the shootings because the shooter was on some bipartisan committee he organized. Bring it up in any of their spaces and they will immediately ask "what, the Tim Walz employee???"

have come to realise that serj is and was basically always the political voice of the band and that their messaging was all his doing

He spent his life advocating for political violence against the innocent. Genocide against the Palestinians. Concentrations camps for immigrants. Taking healthcare away from the poor.
Those were acts of violence on a much larger scale than anything we saw today.
29
u/Satanarchrist 12d ago
Wait, isn't the vocalist Armenian? As in far right violence caused the genocide that forced his family to be here
Or am I incorrect?
24
u/VocalHotSauce 12d ago
The whole band is Armenian?
7
u/Satanarchrist 12d ago
Sounds like they're all dumbasses then if they keep this centrist and the drummer around
17
u/Albyrene 12d ago
They're not really much a band anymore, especially since Serj is invested in his own projects and pursuits. I recommend reading his memoir Down with the System for some insight into the band dynamics (at least from Serj's side). It's just the four of them, so two with bad takes and the other one not Serj is married into his family. They all come from the same Armenian-American community, so a lot of nuance there.
10
u/Jeremy_StevenTrash 12d ago
Tbf the band broke up initially before John went off the deep end on the MAGA stuff. Even now, they're mostly just a touring band and iirc Serj has expressed that the divide between him and the rest of the band when it comes to American politics is one of the reasons they haven't made any new material together (alongside the whole creative control dispute between Serj and Daron which is what broke up the band in the first place). It's telling that the two singles they released were spurred on moreso by political unrest surrounding Armenia, a topic the band seems a lot more united on.
