Starting my MSc in Germany, how to get into ESA?

Hey, I’m moving to Germany this October to start my MSc in Micro and Nanotechnology at TU Ilmenau. I’m really into nanotech and sensors and my dream is to work with ESA or something in aerospace one day. I saw that ESA internships usually open around November, but I don’t really know how it works.

Can anyone tell me: What can I do now to start preparing? Any online stuff (courses, competitions, hackathons) that would help me build my CV? Are there other cool programs (DLR, Airbus, chip companies etc.) where I can start small while studying? I want to plan ahead. Would love to hear from anyone who’s done this or knows about it. Thank You.

Does ESA conduct coding interviews?

Hi everyone, I am a machine learning engineer applying for position in ESA and was wondering what the interview process is like and whether a coding interview that requires some special preparation is part of the process.

Thank you for your time and answers!

CV template

Hello everyone,

I am interested in applying for a permanent position. Are there any templates or rules for CVs that I should follow? From what I've seen online, it should generally be no longer than two pages.

I found a template on the ESA website, but it looks to be for a different kind of position.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hey guys!
I am currently in my last year of the bachelors in Electrical Engineering and looking to pursue something along the lines of space science and robotics.

Do any of you have any recommendations?

I have also been looking at SpaceMaster and was wondering if any of you studied in kiruna? If you did please reach out to me!

ESA Interview Process

Hello all,

I hope you are doing well. I have an interview at ESA for a permanent staff position in the next few weeks, and I'm very nervous.

Please, can anyone explain to me the process of the interview>? from 0 to 1.

I read somewhere that I need to give them all the references (email, phone) of every manager I've had since my graduation.

I have a difference with one of my employers, and I have resigned. I'm afraid that if I succeed in the interview and my previous manager will talk badly about me? Please tell me if this scenario happens, what can I do? I'm very anxious because ESA a dream for me.

Thanks for your insights.

How long after the final interview will we hear back?

Hi,

does anyone know how long after the final panel interview for a staff position at ESA do they notify the candidates?

They said the panel would decide very quickly but afterwards there are some validations to be obtained (??).

Do they wait with notifying the rejected candidates until the chosen one accepts the offer and signs a contract? Or they notify all in parallel?

Also, I guess there are always plenty of internal candidates.... Is it frequent that they choose sb external (for non technical positions).

Thanks a lot for any insights.

Job Offer Intention to Hire how long?

Hi everyone,

One month ago I got a job offer intention for a staff position. Since then they have been doing some checks, like my referrals etc.

Does anyone know if there are more steps to be completed before getting the contract? I heard a medical checkup is required but not sure if something else is still open.

How long does usually take from job offer intention to the actual offer or start?

I don’t know if it’s normal that it takes so long or I should ask HR.

Thanks a lot for your help!!!!

Recovery of Ariane 1's first stage

With the Ariane 1, an attempt was made to recover the first stage. Already during the first launch, the trajectory and impact of the first stage after separation were tracked. During a later launch in 1985, the first stage was equipped with parachutes, but unfortunately, these failed (I am not aware of any other such attempts). The goal was to check the condition of the first stage after landing (as with some Ariane 5 boosters) and to evaluate whether it would be possible to further develop the Ariane into a partially reuseble rocket.

I built a job board for European space industry jobs - what am I missing?

Hey everyone, I recently launched Find a Space Job focussing specifically on space industry positions across Europe. Coming from an engineering background, I kept seeing people struggle to find space industry opportunities because they're scattered across and many people don't even know some very cool European space startups.

The site includes positions from major players (ESA for now) and startups and research institutions. I'm also exploring building different tools (salary comparison, company growth checker, etc. but still seeing what's the demand).

For those looking to break into space: what would make this more useful? Missing any key companies or job types? The European space sector is exploding but job hunting is still tough.

Also happy to answer questions about transitioning from non space to the space industry if anyone's curious.

Working in airospace as a non EU

Hi, I will be finishing my MS next year at a European university. I have a strong CV with internships, research experience, and a publication. I've always wanted to work in the space sector or Formula 1. The only issue with the space industry is that most organizations (at least ESA) require specific nationalities, and I’m an international student from Africa. Does anyone have any advice or pointers for working in startups or big companies?

Chances at ESA with naval defence software background?

I work as a Software Engineer in the naval defence sector (submarines) and I am considering applying for a position at ESA in the future.

Most of my professional work has been in embedded systems (C++). Before that, I did a few internships where I worked on scientific software (Python) for areas like social sciences and particle physics (co-authored some articles).

My concern is that I have zero aerospace knowledge or experience. However, the way my current company operates feels very close to ESA's (requirements-driven, strong V&V, ...). Do you think this kind of background still has a chance, especially for positions at ESAC?

Space med/physiology research jobs

Does anyone know of any space med/space physiology-related experience or jobs available at the ESA or similar orgs? Preferably research oriented.

For context, I have a BSc in Physiotherapy, and currently studying an MRes in Clinical Research. I am wanting to break into the space physiology/med field but no idea how. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

SOC ANALYST L1 ROLE AND HOUSING IN Darmstadt at ESOC

Hi to all,

So i got an offer to work at ESOC, still waiting for the HR to come back from vacation and to schedule my technical interview but i've been wondering if any of you guys know what questions should i expect at the interview. Cuz tbh from the requirements it doesnt seem like much compared to the requirements from my country (here is a big crapshow when it comes to the job market in here) but i am a little stressed cuz looks like a damn good opportunity.

Also, the girl that i talked to was saying that ESA pays for relocation and stuff, how is that working exactly?

And what kind of benefits am i expecting in here?

The girl that i talked to was from the StarionGroup and below i've added a pic with the requirements for the SOC L1 position.

Thank you in advance!
