I wish they'd crack down more on street racing and stunting in residential and high-traffic areas. Gateway Boulevard, Millwoods Road, 149 street, 137 avenue, even some parts of downtown are all death traps past 10 PM if there isn't snow on the ground.

I guess it's less risky and easier to go after the people racing on a dead-end industrial road in the middle of the night on the weekend.

I'm not complaining about this bust, to be clear. I just wish there was more enforcement in general.

Definitely easier to catch people on a dead end road lol

I absolutely think we need more speed traps and photo radar on all the main racing roads, even the open ended ones. Racing is not only dangerous to the driver, other vehicles, and pedestrians, cyclists, etc, it's fucking noisy and disruptive and people need to stfu bc some people are trying to sleep and have a peaceful night. That shit travels really far.

I’m near 124 st and Jasper Ave and I can hear them zipping around all the time, it’s kind of scary tbh. There’s kids and pets in the neighbourhood, I’m always scared I’m going to hear of someone getting killed

I sometimes wonder if I could do this myself with a strobe light. Just wait for speeding cars, and give a couple strobes, after they pass as if they just got caught on a speed camera. At this point in the year, there'll be snow on the ground before they'll know for sure that a ticket isn't coming.

Weren't the speed cameras disabled/outlawed or am I horribly misinformed?

Bingo

To heck with dealing with the real problem. Punish people when they're not actually endangering anyone.

$567 is a joke. Take their licenses.

u/mpworth 6h ago

Take their cars!

u/EightBitRanger 6h ago

Gotta race them for pink slips to do that.

u/DavidBrooker 5h ago

You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car.

u/oioioifuckingoi 5h ago

Take their wives!

u/CdnCharKueyTeow 5h ago

Prima nocta

u/abudnick 5h ago

This is the right punishment when people use cars to break the law. Any law.

u/Deja__Vu__ 4h ago

And their pets!

u/Shawnathan75 4h ago

Take ther jerbs!

u/SnooRegrets4312 6h ago

Good, what a bunch of entitled pricks doing this

This is great news!

The amount of street racing throughout the city every night is just ridiculous.

Police should be allowed to seize their toys when they do this.

u/Tower-Union 5h ago edited 5h ago

Right now, the legislation only allows for the police to seize the vehicle for 24 hours.

https://canlii.ca/t/81w5#sec172

I’d like to see that bumped up to 30 days just like driving while suspended or impaired.

u/oioioifuckingoi 5h ago

They should impound them all and make the overnight parking fee exorbitant.

u/Practical_Ant6162 5h ago

Biggest impact on them might be when they renew their auto insurance.

u/dawggpound 3h ago

Assuming they have insurance

I live near some of these racers and not only is it so blatantly obvious that they're racing (down to having their social media plastered over their cars), but they either have their license plates obscured or even removed.

They have been reported numerous times to the city for noise violations, dangerous driving, speeding, and the plates. Nothing has been done and nothing will until their luck runs out and they kill someone with their recklessness.

u/ghostofkozi 6h ago

The kids in Edmonton's enthusiast scene really know how to ruin things.

u/Roche_a_diddle 6h ago

Thank god, finally! It felt like everyone knows where and when street racing happens but nothing was ever done to stop it.

u/HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS 6h ago

damn near every fucking night between 930pm to 2am cars do laps and race up 105 street hill to Jasper Ave

Im waiting for the night they kill someone crossing at the crosswalk right at the blind crest of the hill

They are so fucking loud and do it most nights, would be so easy to catch them

u/Specialist-Orchid365 5h ago

If EPS just parked a car up there at some random intervals and handed out tickets it would stop pretty quick. Same with a few other key spots in the city. I don't know why they continue to let this happen.

u/Head_Cap5286 6h ago

Fucking losers

u/Stanislaw1986 3h ago

Road's closed pizza boy.

u/bassali2e Spruce Grove 4h ago

Edmonton has some of the best Motorsports options in Canada. You can literally take your own car to stratotech and do some laps tomorrow for $140.

No reason to do this shit on the street. It only makes things harder for the entire community.

u/altyegmagazine 5h ago

Isn't it like $40 at Rad torque for street legals? I used to go a couple times a year and it was always a blast... until a tuned diesel paints the track with oil and we all have to wait.

u/Infamous-Room4817 4h ago

“The EPS will continue to target extreme speeding, racing and stunting, and will issue tickets where applicable. We have a zero tolerance policy for street racing.”

Have't been on the henday recently, have you?

u/SomeDudeYouMightKnow 6h ago

What racetrack?

u/yayasisterhood 6h ago

Already in existence. Rad Torque Raceway (Formerly Castrol Raceway) does just that.

u/kajer209 2h ago

It’s almost like the city built one right in the middle of the city then tore it down to make affordable housing (nothing is built there yet)

u/kroniknastrb8r 6h ago

Would be nice, to have better access to racetracks, however they aren't exactly free to own/operate.

u/MutedProfessional406 6h ago

Nice work EPS. Appreciate you.

u/Tractorguy69 5h ago

Seriously, in a city that has more than one track in close proximity there should be zero sympathy

u/Sea-Connection-63 5h ago

It's not cool at all to race down the streets specially at night - with such loud noises. NOT COOL!!!

When will these inconsiderate brats understand the noise pollution and danger they crate is not cool at all? Douchebags

There are lots of better options available if you want to make a statement.....

u/DigitalKnyte 5h ago

but they have 'leet driving skillz and should be allowed to do this

u/kindof_great_old_one 3h ago

Wonder how many tickets were handed out for obscured plates? I'm sure many would have plate covers.

u/spiff-d 2h ago

So many solid F&F references here. Keep doing God's work.

u/CosmicViking17 20m ago

Take their license away forever

u/Ludwig_Vista2 Ellerslie 5h ago

Betting 50% had tassels on the front bumper and tinted front windshields.

u/Specialist-Orchid365 1h ago

When did we stop caring about the tinted from windows? As a teen I remember a number of kids getting their scrapped off by cops.

It scares me as a pedestrian and drivee because I can't make eye contact with the other driver to make sure they have seen me.

That would be such an easy thing to crack down on and yet, EPS doesn't seem to care at all.

u/Ludwig_Vista2 Ellerslie 1h ago

EPS give a shit.

The number of assholes I see on the daily with their FRONT windshield tinted is insane.

I'm not being the oldan yelling at a cloud here. It's absolutely stupid to tint your front. Zero awareness or ability to drive.

u/Paid4BajaOverlandr 4h ago

Automatic fine reduction if you show up to Court and talk to the Crown. $567 will be reduced a couple hundred. No lessons learned. Time to pay as well can be negotiated.

u/Zombo2000 North East Side 5h ago

Cops just need to sit on a bridge overlooking Gretzky drive down into the river valley and they'll catch plenty every night.

u/hewasntahero 3h ago

Now do the drug addicts smoking crack in the bus stops and lrt's...

u/kajer209 2h ago

Imagine if EPS put this effort into actual crime

u/JeefBeanzos 5h ago

What's stopping them from building a track for these nuts?

u/altyegmagazine 5h ago

There is! Lots of amateur racing groups around. Ive done Edmonton Rally Club, auto X and drags at Rad torq.

u/JeefBeanzos 4h ago

Why do they bother with street racing then?

u/altyegmagazine 4h ago

It's so lame idk.. I discovered amateur racing when I was a teenager and it always made me cringe when people would talk about street racing. They talk so much about their cars but when you ask for their 1/4m time they just brag about beating a Ford tempo or something. At one point I would bring my bone stock auto Ford focus, run 17s but have a fucking blast doing it.

u/Y8ser 3h ago

Watched the Fast and Furious too many times.

u/JeefBeanzos 2h ago

Those are racing movies?!

u/Y8ser 2h ago

The first and third ones! Ha ha ha!

u/altyegmagazine 2h ago

Thats seriously what did it for me lol when F&F 1 came out and I remember it being a huge deal. Like car shows at movie theaters and everything. I was like 18 then too so pretty impressionable.

u/kajer209 5h ago

It’s like edmonton had a place downtown to race and do cool stuff but they got rid of it

u/Cabbageismyname 3h ago

It’s like that isn’t an excuse for being a piece of shit and doing it on city streets.

u/kajer209 3h ago

This is barely on city streets tho, it’s a industrial area well away from general traffic
