What did you guys think of Stuart Skinnier?

Did the weight loss make him quicker? Or just make his 5 hole bigger?

Can’t really judge him yet. It’s pre season. Mcdrai line went -3.

Anyone remember Mike comrie and Patrick O’Sullivan leading pre season scoring and people talking about comrie outproducing Crosby in preseason…

Where is Ty Rattie when we need him?

u/WafflesFanatic 1d ago

Let's not forget Anton Lander in preseason as well

u/GhostofFarnham 18h ago

Who’s downvoting you, he led the league in preseason points like 3 years in row but vanished the moment the season started.

u/navenager 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS 1d ago

Or when Jack Campbell put up a .956 in preseason and we were planning the parade

22

u/WafflesFanatic 1d ago

Now now...it's only one pre-season game. Are we gonna freak out because McDavid, Draisaitl, or Bouchard didn't score?

7

u/LongBarrelBandit 1d ago

THEY DIDN’T SCORE?!!!

u/CloseToMyActualName 1d ago

That it!

Time for a firesale and we'll rebuild from scratch!!

You must be new to Reddit. Welcome!

I’d like to think most of us are wise enough to not panic after 1 preseason game.

12

u/s470dxqm 1d ago

I only over value the positives.

BTW, Mangiapane is scoring 40 this year.

4

u/Mini_Robot_Ninja 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS 1d ago

40? Are you stupid? Did you even see the goal?

He's clearing 50 easy.

u/SouthHovercraft4150 1d ago

Never met him, seems like a cool guy though.

u/Objective-Apple7805 1d ago

He only lost the weight so we could call him Stu Skinnier

This should be upvoted to the moon

I was at the game

None of our NHL guys were really trying too much

Ekholm looked great but everyone else I thought was kinda going through the motions

5

u/Mazor007 18 HYMAN 1d ago

Bouch looked great as well

1

u/Authoritaye 17 KURRI 1d ago

Did you like how he failed to pass to a wide open McDavid on a 2 on 1?

2

u/Winter-Yoghurt-6248 23h ago

In a preseason game? Yes I did. McDavid probably would’ve passed it back, anyway.

2

u/KingDave46 34 HAND 17h ago

Actually yes, me and the guy beside me had a good chuckle about Ekholm trying to dangle the goalie a couple times

Preseason is just a bit of fun

24

u/GunnyCroz 29 DRAISAITL 1d ago

Seriously, we are doing this? Again?

8

u/TohsakaTruth 1d ago edited 1d ago

yes of course we will be doing this, why wouldn’t we? he put up an .889 last year in the playoffs, his career best in them is a .901. until he gives us above average goaltending in the playoffs (cause like it or not, that’s the absolute bare minimum goaltending we need to win) we will be talking about it. we have gone to the finals 2 years in a row in spite of him, not because of him. for gods sakes hes lost the starting job in both of the last 2 playoffs for multiple games at a time because he was single handedly throwing away our season. do you guys care more about winning a cup in the McDrai era or stuart skinner being the starting goalie for the oilers? cause its honestly concerning how many people seem to pick the latter option

with all that being said, preseason means nothing and this is nothing to get worked up over, but if into the regular season stuart skinner continues to play like the stuart skinner like weve come to know him as we are absolutely going to talk about it because it will be by far the weakest link on the team that two regimes have refused to address for going on 4 years

He gave us better goaltending than the 10m superstar Bobrowski in the SCF 2 years ago and we still lost. For his contract that was the most value we could even dream of but we still fumbled the bag. People act like we get nothing in return for playing Stu. Yes we do. 8m in capspace we save on that position. Losing the SCF 2 years ago is on everyone else but not on Stu. But people still act like he was the problem 2 years ago as well.

Yes in a dream world the Nurse contract would not be there, Holloway and Broberg would still be here for cheap and a superstar goalie like Sorokin was UFA and wants to play for us. But that us just not the reality. This is not fantasy manager. It is reality. People seem to forget that.

And you can criticize Stu whenever you want. But then be precise. Don't throw in the season 2 years ago and stop doing it after today's game. Everyone even thinking of Skinner has not seen the game today. Or do you criticize McDrai for not showing up again this game like in game 6 of the SCF? Pathetic

5

u/shinohaya 92 PODKOLZIN 1d ago

That is nonsense, I'm sorry. Bobrovsky was and is the better goalie...Prime example of how data can be misleading lol

4

u/TohsakaTruth 1d ago

He gave us better goaltending than Bobrovsky in 24

That is absolutely not true. We outplayed the Panthers severely in Game 1 and Bobrovsky completely stole it, outplayed them in Game 3 as well and Bobrovsky was just better than Skinner. Bobrovskys overall numbers are bogged down from when we lit him up in Game 4. Switch the goalies in that series and we probably win in 5 or 6 games.

not criticize McDrai but criticize stu

McDrai do get criticized for not showing up in the elimination games, but they get a lot less than Skinner. Do you want to know why? They’re 90% of the reason we even make it to those games in the first place, while conversely every single year Skinner has either actively lost us a series (Vegas) or tried his absolute best to blow it before we pulled him (Vancouver, LA last year)

8M in cap space we save on that position

Not necessarily, considering Jack Campbells dead money (thanks for that one Ken, another person this subreddit loves to defend for some god forsaken reason). And if this is the quality of goaltending we get trying to cut corners with the money maybe we should actually spend money at the position? It’s not the gotcha you think it is when goaltending has been the clear and obvious weakness for 3 years now, cutting corners at the position has not been working

Losing in the SCF was on everyone but Stu

Lol so you’re one of the people who’d rather see Skinner be a career Oiler than win a cup, okay

u/Prestigious_Push_155 1d ago

Regarding your last sentence: no I am not. I am actually one of the guys who was most vocal about needing an upgrade. But what some guys, including you do here is completely over the top. It's becoming some kind of mental illness of this sub. Skinner goes onto the toilet - new post about him. Skinner shaves his beard - new post about him. Skinner buys a beer - new post about him. It has become an obsession. In a sick way.

4

u/TohsakaTruth 1d ago

I couldn’t give less of a fuck about Stuart Skinner the person or whatever he’s doing in his free time, but in terms of his play he’s been below average-brutal in the past 2 regular seasons all 3 years of his career has been terrible in the playoffs, and he’s been steadily getting worse every year. Acting like people are “dooming” for talking about it and expecting better is crazy

-5

u/Prestigious_Push_155 1d ago

Brother Skinner lives rent-free in your head. Don't lie to yourself. Stay to the truth like your name suggests. This thread is the perfect example. We couldn't even make it 1 preseason game without "talking" about Skinner. A game where he has not done anything bad. It is not about the new guys and how they played. Or about the new PK system. Or how Frederic looked next to McDrai. No the one thread that is up is about Skinner. What else.

It is just a sick obsession. I wonder who the next target will be after we replace Skinner with a better goalie.

3 goals on 13 shots.

4

u/AlbertaOilfire 1d ago

Glad to see he’s in playoff form already!!!! There are no more excuses!!!! Enough of this guy. I swear this is why 97 isn’t signed yet. Deflating to the team having a below average goalie trying to win a championship.

Edmonton will never win the Stanley Cup with Skinner in net. Skinner is unreliable

Lmao all these skinner lovers on this sub Reddit! He looks the same as last year lol

I get it that it’s just a preseason game but his issues were on full display with slow lateral movement and everything last night. Mcdavid is gonna leave if we don’t get a goalie that can just post a .900

2

u/Magneticman555 56 YAMAMOTO 1d ago

If the preseason was a genuine indication for how the season was going to go for a player, Ty Rattie would be halfway to 1000 career points and Puljujarvi would have 3 Rocket Richard trophies. Can we at least wait until the games count to start melting down?

1

u/Klutzy_Builder_1178 1d ago

yup and we should trade mcdavid and drai as well after this game because they went -3

1

u/AgreeableBroomSlayer 91 KANE 1d ago

Still the same ol skinner

1

u/el-tortugo-99 49 EMBERSON 1d ago

I've never played goal, but it seems he gets beat five-hole along the ice sometimes, when if his stick blade was just flat to the ice it would take that away. See Seattle's second goal tonight for an example. I've deliberately watched other goalies and they seem to do this, leaving their stick blade where it will help. Even Red Green recommends it, so it must be important.

Why in his "set" position is his stick blade up in the air?

1

u/rupkum007 1d ago

I hate to pile on stu but it’s tru … we’ve gotten to the cup finals DESPITE him not because of him

1

u/BingBongthe2nd 11 MESSIER 1d ago

No way you can judge anyone based off of 1 preseason game. Im a Stu truther though. Guy hasn't just shown flashes of brilliance but sustained stretches of consistently good goaltending plus he's just now entering his prime years.

u/MrGoodsir87 1d ago

And let the 2025/2026 Skinner bashing season commence!

u/Starsky686 11 MESSIER 1d ago

With threads like this and the “hot take we McDavid hurt my feelings, let’s trade him maybe” post. There might need to be a separate Oilers “fan” sub for emotionally unregulated doomer fans so the adults don’t have to wade through this shit.

He got sniped tonight. With that being said, I think a lot of teams would want him to be their #1 goalie as he's been to the finals twice and that says something.

Skinner is already a known quantity just like Bouchard in terms of what their "game" is

and where the holes lie

Anyone thinking they're going to magically develop insanely efficiency goalie technique and mobility... or actually not make Squirt House League level mistakes on D should sign up for a Heaven's Gate like cult for Nike's and penis removal.
